If I ever want to use it again to kill game, I'll install the 24(?) inch barrel, but for years I've only used the 18.5 inch barrel. I also added an 8 round tube on it years ago. I have an old Mossberg 190 Bolt Action. While it isn’t the most ideal gun for home defense. If my math is correct 2+1+16gauge=dead boogieman. Plus if you’re a fan of old fashion American made steel and wood furniture, then you’ll love these old gals. It’s very easy to use as the ergonomics are universal. Even back in the 50s Mossberg was putting the safety and magazine down the center of the gun. It’s only drawback for me is the ammo. 16ga is a little hard to come by, and 2+1. But a sleeve on the stock fixes that issue. And Mossberg designed the barrel to have a C-lect choke added to the barrel. And the barrel itself is ported from the factory already. Not to mention these guns are great if your budget is really tight. I picked mine up for about $150.
Mossberg says the 590M magazines will fit in a double AR mag pouch, so I guess you keep a belt with some on it in the safe to throw on when you grab the shotgun. My home defense shotgun is a Remington 870DM, with a 6 round detachable single stack magazine. Those will fit in your pocket. I've got 4 mags for it. The detachable mag shotguns are not unbalanced, since the weight is in the middle.
Mossberg 500 and Remington 870 are a must own. I got a rifled barrel you may want one of those too. And a good ribbed hunting barrel with choke both those guns are very versatile
My home defense is my Winchester 12 ga. Pump defender without the plug holds 8 2 3/4 and 13 or 14 shorts had it 20+ years and my back up 870 wing master 23" barrel
i have never bought any turkish shottys, but several of my friends continued to. somehow every time ( not an exaggeration) we go out to practice, their shotguns fail during the session despite "its fixed now" status. there i am with my lowly maverick 88...
There are some great Turkish shotguns… but know they produce almost as many shotguns as the US, so easy to find a bum one especially the cheap models. But each of the 6 Turkish shotguns I have chosen after reviews and time in use have worked really well.
My JTS is a lot of fun to take to the range. It will run everything I put though it including the cheap birdshot. Will it replace my 590A1 for home defense? No, but I don't feel like an idiot for purchasing it.
The JTS I own is a blast to shoot, other than getting the gas port set correctly for the different rounds it cycles flawlessly. I have the 5 and 10 round mags for it. it is the current favorite range toy for everyone that has shot it so far. I still need to get another couple hundred rounds through it. No real issues form it at this point.
Reliable once broken down, cleaned, and properly set with gas port and magazines. The key is correct high quality ammo, new brass, and settings. Small birdshot can cause issues due to low powder charge. Frame edges can be sharp, need some filing.
My JTS AK shotgun has been absolutely flawless. I found the fit and finish to be nearly flawless. Way better quality that what I was expecting for the $290 price. After unboxing I thoroughly cleaned it and re-lubed it. I had zero malfunctions during the initial 100 shells. It is the smoothest shooting shotgun I have ever used. You do know it has an adjustable gas system, right? You have to turn the knob to adjust for the shells you are firing although I have found that on setting "2" it cycles everything just fine... slugs, buckshot and 7.5 birdshot.
I also bought a mag fed shotty. The mags were aluminum and followers were poly. When loaded the springs stacked and caused an issue. Part loaded worked well. They touched the bolt carrier when closing which killed the closing speed and caused partial chambering. I had to alter all 8 single stack mags to clear the bolt carrier and they work like magic! I then shortened a spacer in the mag cap and shortened the spring one coil to make 10 rds work well. You can do a lot with metal mags.
My Veper runs amazing! No problems! Loud and rude is my only complaint. Excellent for the $500 I paid for it new! And it more than doubled in it's value!
The Chineesium JTSm12AK does just fine as a range gun for me, no failures to feed, fire, extract, or eject yet. I did however take the advice from the internet at large and do a full disassembly prior to shooting it the first time, stripped all the cosmolene out of it, and gave it a proper lube bath.
Mossberg 590M …a stupid idea that should have been left on the drawing board!!!! I’m a HUGE fan of Mossberg firearms. But you can’t win them all. The 590A1 is,in my opinion, the absolute best shotgun to have!
If you understand gas port settings on semi-auto shotguns, an individual has less problems. First, clean out the shipping grease from the port. Second, use proper ammo with high quality brass and correct powder charge preferably over 1350 fps. Third, use the correct port settings. Four, use factory designed magazines. Five, break in the shotgun with AT LEAST 200+ shells.
Yeah, like I see these RUclipsrs do their little burndowns on Turkish guns that clearly state +1300 FPS ammo and high brass only. Then act shocked that it breaks after failing to shoot nuts and bolts. 🤣🤣 I have a Citadel Boss 25 and did cleaned the grease off as you mentioned, cleaned it, and only shoot the recommended ammo for it. No jams ever. How shocking. 😵😵😵
I shot a jts. It had been cleaned, broken in right and "taken care of". Zero issues.my local range has one as a rental that is super reliable also. They said it has thousands of rounds through it and runs anything they feed it.
If you are rich: Bellini M4 If you love history or are a hunter or a fudd: Browning A5 *The original action that JMB intended* If you don't want to spend 2k+ on a shotgun: 870 or 500/590/88.
Don't believe everything to hear. My brother and I both bought a JTS AK shotgun at the same time last year. They have been flawless and 100% reliable. One of the issues is folks do not properly clean and degrease the gun prior to use. There is a lot of preservative grease in the gas system and it must be cleaned out before use.
I love my DM. The best thing about it is that it's center of gravity is right in the middle and doesn't change as the magazine empties. You also get 10, or more, rounds with only an 18" barrel. To get 7 rounds with the traditional 500/590, you have to have a 20" barrel.
Yeah, box fed shotguns aren't as practical or tactical as they might seem. You can always shove a few more rounds into a pump action after getting to cover quickly when you have a couple of bandoliers that hold 50 rounds each. Plenty of ammo to feed the beast in a hairy situation.
ALSO: Shotgun mags, the upward pressure can deform the plastic shells and cause failures, ESP when the mags sit loaded over time. You need to run brass cased shells to feed a magazine reliably.
I’m throughly satisfied with my Mossberg 500 12 gauge (6+1) pump and (2) 1911 45 automatic pistols with 14 mag/clips …belt pouches and hip holster and an under arm holster….. Bear Archery 🏹 Grizzly recurve 60 lb and I made 48” inch long and 3/4 inch diameter (.75) caliber wood arrow….and yes they punched through foam blocks target 🎯….wooden dowels rods at hardware stores….. I did make some 60 inch ones also 😊
There is nothing better for home defense than a 12 gauge 00 buck. The retired police range commander of one of America's top three most violent cities told me that, and i had heard that multiple times before. I first shot a gun when i was seven, and i was allowed to shoot a 20 gauge by myself when i was ten.
I read a lengthy article years ago by a reputable author who made a compelling case for using #1 buckshot (which I didn't know existed). I promptly found and purchase a bunch in Remington green & yellow box. Luckily I haven't had to test its effectiveness.
As a gun saler can to say to you .i sold hundreds of Hatsan shotguns. The quality and finish include hard chrome barrel inside. I have one aimguard for home self defense. I don'n know if you relly shoot any HATSAN escort shotgun. I think you sale smoke...
They perfected the pump shotgun between 1937 and 1950. A man that learns how to use one is a terrifying efficient dealer of death. With no need of magazines, flashlights or fancy sights. Folding stocks on a shotguns are a nightmare
Mossberg 590 20 inch / 9 shot /12 gauge , the best !!! The 590M probably doesn't shoot without magazine either, I maybe wrong , but it's a stupid idea anyways !!!!
I use a KelTec KS7 for home defense. And before anybody starts ragging on about Keltec: No, I did not have any malfunctions, and no, it did not explode
Extremely limited capacity is a problem? Why not learn how to make every shell count, as my man, a former para said: I would rather be missed by a 44 than hit with a 22.
Yep. Good philosophy. But there is a reason military and law enforcement all over the world use large capacity firearms as their primary weapons for their teams because a firefight doesn’t mean you can hit a target every time you fire. Especially when providing cover fire. So in that regard… you are missing the point of large capacity magazines and the ability to carry multiple backups. So the point the author made stands strong. Mag fed shotguns tend to balance odd, be very heavy and the large mags are cumbersome.
I bought a SAIGA 12 before they were cool, sometime in the mid 2000s. Lol mainly because I owned a SAIGA AK47 I bought a few years earlier. I definitely didn't know what I was getting into, but it's cycles pretty well with a heavy load. Target loads consistently jammed. At this point its more of a collector piece. Did I mention it kicks like a mule.
Winchester SXP Defender 12 gauge and if you feel like birding, get the longer barrel to change out the shorter home defense barrel. Smooth action and fast. Quick barrel changes, shoots 2-3/4" and 3" loads. 5+1 with 2-3/4" , more with the mini shells.
Call me primitive, but i trust my h&r singles more than anything ive ever had! My 20g ultra-slug is more accurate than any shotgun ive ever encountered (barrel is HEAVY) i use a topper classic deluxe with the double bead ribbed/vented barrel for birds (turkey, goose, ducks) and next to the bed sits a cheap ass NEF (chinese 870 ripoff) pardner protector pump 12g, damn thing is indestructible.
I wish one of the videos for a home defense shotgun would show shotguns that are actually for home defense. Instead they are all about military tactics and shooting at targets a hundred feet away in a field or quarry. And I imagine a home defense situation having to shoot from the hip not at shoulder height.
I did buy the jts. It functions flawless and it has 10 rd mags put buck shot and it is just fun. I picked mine up for 180.... Its heavy ugly. But never has it failed to feed or fire..
I'll keep the old 88 thanks. Box mags are a great idea for capacity but the weight and bulk makes them difficult to shoot and move around with. If a box magazine was a useful and piratical option it would have become main stream long ago. unless you're in actual battle you're carrying around ammo you will never need.
Lmfao, last goose season in a snow storm I watched a Maverick 88 be the only shotgun running 100% reliability when the gas operated 12's jammed up and froze over. Idk that cheap pump rocked all day long and mad a 16 year old extremely grinny.
I had a Maverick 88 and it was fine in normal use. The only time I saw any problem was at the range when I fired 25 rounds of 00 in rapid order, reloading quickly 5 times. Towards the end of this exercise, the darn thing got so hot the brass of the shell expanded and locked in the chamber and it would not cycle. But then I forgave it, as who would need 20+ rounds of rapid fire and in what possible situation?
@@stewartw.9151 Yes I know Mossburg Warranty has a fix for that actually, the chamber gets a polish to remedy the problem and the extractors are upgraded to 590 specs, works wonders.
You forgot to add my favorite, the single shot Baikal. I bought one new about 45 years ago for $49. AU. It used to shoot around corners, even at close range. lol
My JTS MAK12 had no issues cycling rounds except for 2 3/4 birdshot shells. But it is clanky and sketchy, and nomatter where I look for strengthening parts it's always to no avail. I really like it, I just dislike there isn't any real parts for it.
Different loads Different gas pressure.hints the piston driven. Jts has an adjustable gas block dial depending on the loads your shooting same as the ar platforms
don't use any home defense weapon that looks like a "weapon of war", you're much more likely to get a sympathetic judge and jury if your weapon looks plain and inoffensive leave the laser sights, flashlights, grenade launchers, and drone launch pads off your weapons, heh
Unless you live in NYC, Chicago, or LA, the chances you will have to use a home defense shotgun are very small. In fact, unless you are carrying (yes, in your home), chances are slim you will get to where the shotgun is stashed before you are shot.
If you do not posses the firearms knowledge to be able to adjust gas ports on semi shotguns for the type of round, (even though the Owners Manual tells you how) you should hold your tongue, not scream "PIECE OF CRAP !!" because you absolutely don't know what you're doing. My JTS works fine and eats everything. Oh wait, I stripped and cleaned it, I know how to adjust my gas port AND I read the Owners Manual... I'm so silly.....

I don't want anything with those long magazines, rifles or shotguns .snag up, laying down shooting a joke, in thick woods ?for in a rush I'll take my easy to handle pump shotguns that will never hinder me. papa 😊
In terms of reliability nothing can beat double break barrel shotgun. With fast ejector, polished chambers. So bad ammo stuck inside will be practically impossible. You can also shoot any ammo. Even subsonic loads without worrying about not cycling. Pump action, lever action etc. Can lead to many failures. As for reloading it's far easier to put two more shells than reload new magazine or tube. On pump, auto or lever action chance of failure in critical situations is very high. Self defense against what? Home Intruders is ine thing. Lions, bears, wolves quite another.
In spite of all the gimmicks they come up with like the Mossberg Shockwave, bullpup design, AR style, mag fed , massive magazines that hold over 10 rounds all of those have good and bad points But the traditional tube feed design that holds 5 rounds , a pump for reliability, and one that does not have a barrel that is too long or basically the shotguns police would carry in their patrol cars give you the best compromise of everything meaning they are easy to reload and keep the capacity topped off, light and evenly balanced with a full stock and they are a time proved design
A well broken in gun can be trusted. I had a spell of trouble and found the problem. A thosand rounds later, it's still dependable. I'll keep it, despite your opinion.

I got to be honest not really a plus on the 590... has it's pros but from what we have experienced is a few more cons
Home defense shotgun😂😅😂 thank you for that
Why the fuck do you need more than 10+1, 2-3/4 inch shells for home defense? What are you blind in one eye?
Mossberg 500 and Remington 870 are a must own. I got a rifled barrel you may want one of those too. And a good ribbed hunting barrel with choke both those guns are very versatile
My home defense is my Winchester 12 ga. Pump defender without the plug holds 8 2 3/4 and 13 or 14 shorts had it 20+ years and my back up 870 wing master 23" barrel

1.Stevens 320 series
2. Hatsan Bultac (bullpup)
I've had an 1187 for years never malfunctioned with any load can't beat it patterns great all I need
Remington 870 Express super mag
i have never bought any turkish shottys, but several of my friends continued to. somehow every time ( not an exaggeration) we go out to practice, their shotguns fail during the session despite "its fixed now" status. there i am with my lowly maverick 88...
Just call your friends idiots, like this video suggests you should do...
There are some great Turkish shotguns… but know they produce almost as many shotguns as the US, so easy to find a bum one especially the cheap models. But each of the 6 Turkish shotguns I have chosen after reviews and time in use have worked really well.
My Girsan has been flawless.
@@calebcares8813 im sure man, i just think the number of duds during manufacturing is higher than normal
I was the uninformed fool who bought a Turkish shotty, never again
I call a social worker to protect me
My JTS is a lot of fun to take to the range.
My jts m12 has never let me down and I'll put thousands around Always works and I bought it used
My JTS AK shotgun has been absolutely flawless.
Good morning. 💪🇺🇸☕️. On spending a LARGE amount on a shotgun. I think I'd be going with mossberg 940 tactical or the Beretta A300 patrol
Excellent choices both. Not exactly budget minded but I’d trust my life to them and that’s for sure.
My well over 30 years old Maverick 88 is as flawless as ever … no worries of it being effective for home defense & hunting
Winchester 1300 I trust in

Yea it's made in Turkey.... haven't shot it much yet...but so far it's good 👍
Mossberg 590M …a stupid idea that should have been left on the drawing board!!!! I’m a HUGE fan of Mossberg firearms. But you can’t win them all. The 590A1 is,in my opinion, the absolute best shotgun to have!
A game of Operation with straight razors, You made me happy man! Thanks.😂
This man speaks the truth!
Yeah, like I see these RUclipsrs do their little burndowns on Turkish guns that clearly state +1300 FPS ammo and high brass only. Then act shocked that it breaks after failing to shoot nuts and bolts. 🤣🤣
I have a Citadel Boss 25 and did cleaned the grease off as you mentioned, cleaned it, and only shoot the recommended ammo for it. No jams ever. How shocking. 😵😵😵

I shot a jts. It had been cleaned, broken in right and "taken care of". Zero issues.my local range has one as a rental that is super reliable also. They said it has thousands of rounds through it and runs anything they feed it.
If you are rich: Bellini M4
If you love history or are a hunter or a fudd: Browning A5 *The original action that JMB intended*
If you don't want to spend 2k+ on a shotgun: 870 or 500/590/88.
Never heard or seen any of these brands except Mossberg
I've owned a Mossberg 500 for years!
It's never failed me yet!
The Fab Arm guns are really amazing looking. I want to try them for myself, perhaps fix the flaw if I could myself.
I was tempted by the JTS, very tempted, but my gut told me no. Thank you for validating my decision.
@@eosjoe565 Yep I agree with that statement
The 590 is great. 590m, IDK. But the 590 and a Maverick 88 in my garage, and I never worry about anything.
I’m throughly satisfied with my
Mossberg 500 12 gauge (6+1) pump and (2) 1911 45 automatic pistols with 14 mag/clips …belt pouches and hip holster and an under arm holster….. Bear Archery 🏹 Grizzly recurve 60 lb and I made 48” inch long and 3/4 inch diameter (.75) caliber wood arrow….and yes they punched through foam blocks target 🎯….wooden dowels rods at hardware stores….. I did make some 60 inch ones also 😊
Love my heavy ass double barrel side by side with a wood stock. Kicks like a mule, but it'll knock somethin down.
There is nothing better for home defense than a 12 gauge 00 buck. The retired police range commander of one of America's top three most violent cities told me that, and i had heard that multiple times before. I first shot a gun when i was seven, and i was allowed to shoot a 20 gauge by myself when i was ten.
00 will work for sure. While I am not an expert, my understanding lead me to load #4 Buck to reduce the chance of wall penetration.
@mattschmitt9924. My friend Dave recommends number 4. He is a stone cold killer And a soldier who's taken many heads.
000 Buck an 00 Buck will put the hurt down range
I read a lengthy article years ago by a reputable author who made a compelling case for using #1 buckshot (which I didn't know existed). I promptly found and purchase a bunch in Remington green & yellow box. Luckily I haven't had to test its effectiveness.
As a gun saler can to say to you .i sold hundreds of Hatsan shotguns. The quality and finish include hard chrome barrel inside. I have one aimguard for home self defense. I don'n know if you relly shoot any HATSAN escort shotgun. I think you sale smoke...
Love hearing the same 15 second guitar riff played over and over for ten minutes. Definitely not horrible and distracting.
Right
I use a KelTec KS7 for home defense. And before anybody starts ragging on about Keltec: No, I did not have any malfunctions, and no, it did not explode
I appreciate the Real Human voice over! Great content too.
Extremely limited capacity is a problem? Why not learn how to make every shell count, as my man, a former para said: I would rather be missed by a 44 than hit with a 22.
That is a very fine saying🤝
capacities for suppressive fire. Nothing to do with hitting the enemy everything to do with maneuvering
@@MmMm-f2y7c another quote from my ol' man: I'd rather face a moron with a machine gun than a skilled shooter with a bolt action
@@calebcares8813 people buy shotguns for home defense. If you're laying down suppressive fire INSIDE YOUR HOUSE, you have an insane problem.
You always make things so simple!
I “like” when the content is finished.
Tube mags are the best. Add an extension and you are good.
BRING IT.
I did buy the jts. It functions flawless and it has 10 rd mags put buck shot and it is just fun.
I picked mine up for 180....
Its heavy ugly. But never has it failed to feed or fire..
Same with mine!

My JTS MAK12 had no issues cycling rounds except for 2 3/4 birdshot shells. But it is clanky and sketchy, and nomatter where I look for strengthening parts it's always to no avail. I really like it, I just dislike there isn't any real parts for it.
What about the dumpster-fire that is any Charles Daly pump?
Different loads Different gas pressure.hints the piston driven. Jts has an adjustable gas block dial depending on the loads your shooting same as the ar platforms
Mossberg m590a1 have for years never failed will never change

I own a winchester SXP has all wood corn cob pump trench gun looks like a vietnam area shotgun used for point men!
don't use any home defense weapon that looks like a "weapon of war", you're much more likely to get a sympathetic judge and jury if your weapon looks plain and inoffensive
leave the laser sights, flashlights, grenade launchers, and drone launch pads off your weapons, heh
Unless you live in NYC, Chicago, or LA, the chances you will have to use a home defense shotgun are very small. In fact, unless you are carrying (yes, in your home), chances are slim you will get to where the shotgun is stashed before you are shot.
I love my Derya mk12 I ran about 2000 shells through before I experienced failure to eject

Really aren’t you replying on your tactical seal team 6 approved IPad. 😁
My XTR-12 has worked perfectly for the last three years.
I LOVE my MOSSBERG 500!
In spite of all the gimmicks they come up with like the Mossberg Shockwave, bullpup design, AR style, mag fed , massive magazines that hold over 10 rounds all of those have good and bad points But the traditional tube feed design that holds 5 rounds , a pump for reliability, and
one that does not have a barrel that is too long or basically the shotguns police would carry in their patrol cars give you the best compromise of everything meaning they are easy to reload and keep the capacity topped off, light and evenly balanced with a full stock and they are a time proved design
A well broken in gun can be trusted. I had a spell of trouble and found the problem. A thosand rounds later, it's still dependable. I'll keep it, despite your opinion.
