  • A recording of Charles Eisenstein's Earth Talk given in our Joy of Six series on 1 July 2020.
For hundreds of years, modern society has conceived of progress in terms of an increasing ability to exercise control - over nature, over enemies, over bad people, even over ourselves. Despite decades of development, when Covid-19 hit, holistic medicine was ignored. Similarly, holistic agriculture remains marginal despite urgent ecological need for it.
This session will explore the limits of the material and social technologies of control. We will bring in data points that that way of seeing the world excludes. And we will conceive a future in holistic terms and peek at some other modes of “technology” that may be part of it.
You can take Holistic Science MSc at Schumacher College on the Dartington Estate. Find out more here: bit.ly/2VOHrCw

14:50 - the idea of the "conquest of the self" as mirroring the "conquest of nature" - brilliant.

all this disconnect is not a modern thing which came only with car, trains, emails or to industrialization. i suggest we would be mistaken if we think that. a problem is that we want to wrap our mind around this and we cannot. while Charles is trying to do this, the more lost we may be or become. Donella Meadows in her work in systems thinking suggests a place way beyond "thinking". and science can be as problematic as religion. joseph chilton pearce speaks of religion, scientific or ecclesiastic. when you are in the zone, whatever you are doing - football, chess, tai-chi, basketball, drafting a pleading, growing a garden, you are not thinking, indeed "you" are not even there as you are lost in the activity, becoming one with it...bless all

So far I have struggled to find anyone better than Charles at defining the problems that humanity currently faces. It always comes down to this story of separation. Always. The world has become this hydra of problems each with their own unique apocalyptic outcomes and impossible solutions, the source is the story that we tell ourselves and have repeated for generations.

Very excellent discussion and thoughtful questions from listeners... love the words of humility..it happens to you..it is a gift... so very true..dogmatism is the enemy I believe... and I was steeped in it for many years .. looking back such a wretched place to be.. the opposite of humility it is the essence of pride. . I always write my favorite points in a book that i can reference back to..i have much to write in my book from this talk..love so much of what was said..thankyou both so very much for sharing wisdom and aligning a path for truth...peace, love and joy to all..Lora

It is fascinating to think of viruses as being avenues to our genetic evolution.

I think we are up against powerful forces that do not want us to live in harmony with one another and our planet.

Our spirit our Essence our souls we have lost our connection to Nature can we get it back is the question we are conditioned to believe that progress has a bigger Mall bigger city bigger car faster car it's not about technology in one respect it is but in the real respective essence of life and nature it is not but we will not forward because it's all value and put on the dollar the value of us stuff in the stock market and what we create materially nothing to do with spiritualism anymore it's gone hope we can revive it eyes mind Hot & Soul wide-open good luck to everybody this planet is turning into a cement Rock

Glyphosate is in everything. Plays a significant role in all the pandemics Charles speaks of. Historically most pandemics involve poisoning and soil depletion.
