Blue Oyster Cult is a great band, very underrated.
The ending is just LIKE that. It's the craziest transition on the album because it immediately just drops into the gentle piano entry of Astronomy. It's SO good to see you reacting to BOC again!
They've been touring live, and they just did a show at Sony Hall in Time Square in New York. INCREDIBLE. They really are a band to be enjoyed live. These albums are great, but the best solos and transitions are heard live. I hope you can actually attend a show some time while they're still rocking!
They are still very good live. My wife and I saw them back in July and now we’re going to see them again on Thursday.
Heather is right! I saw the live NYC shows with her at Sony Hall for their 50th Anniversary celebration and let me tell you to this day they are ultra tight and still sound fantastic and fresh. Their catalog is one of the most unique and epic in all of rock history and even though they are still underrated they deserve to be in your list of top bands.
Keep listening! You will not be disappointed, we promise.
If you dig the intro, listen to the song before it, Harvester of Eyes, and you’ll hear the entire transition into Flaming Telepaths. The way we all heard it on vinyl back in the day.
You’re so right
Both Sides of Secret Treaties
Flow together perfectly
Agreed last 3 songs on this side are so perfect together, sounds odd hearing them in isolation.
@@steeleye2112 kinda dig cagey cretins too and how it goes right into
Harvester
I like the way the keys get a minute and then Buck says "hold my beer" also the abrubt end on the album transitions immediately to the next song which works beautifully!
Of all the great BOC songs, this might be their best! Thank you for your reaction.
To clarify the comments on transitions. There are no breaks between the songs. Each song leads beautifully into the next
One of the greatest live shows.
Thanks for spreading the word about the Cult to new generations. You are choosing incredible tracks from their history and the fans appreciate your efforts.
Secret Treaties is BOC's best album. And this is arguably its finest track. Right on man !!
They are one the best bands ever. See them soon.
The beginning of Flaming Telepaths is the end of the previous song,....Harvester Of Eyes.....which is another burning diverse number.
So many great songs from these guys. This whole album is terrific.
One of my top 3 songs from BOC, my favorite version of this song comes from the Classic Cult album they did which they re recorded the songs on it.
That album also has my favorite version of Harvester of Eyes.
There is a 45 second piano intro that does not get included unless you use the LP version, and then maybe.. "Harvester Of Eyes"/"Flaming Telepaths"/"Astronomy " should be listened to in succession, as the songs blend together.. I consider this a concept album. I don't think you have reacted to "E.T.I. (Extra Terrestrial Intelligence)" yet.. this would be a great next track.. Thanks.
Pretty sure it's a music box, not piano
@@justinmathewson3692 I believe you are correct on that.. I am hoping that someone would do the LP version reaction, but there are hardly any to react to..
BOC Rocks! Next from them try Cities On Flame, amazing track off their first album, even better live. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
One of the top cult cuts. At some point you have to listen to the album in entirety. The transitions become clearer. Plus, re listen to the lyrics.
Just another fabulous track from the amazing Blue Oyster Cult. This leads into the equally great Astronomy which demands a listen, but you really need to get into the Agents of Fortune and Spectres albums. As much BOC as you've heard Chod, there's still a lot more. Keep it going!
They have a song called ME262 about a WW2 German aircraft fighter-bomber. Incredible song, a fast rocker.
Wow, this is a deep cut! Incredible song from one of the greatest albums of the 70s
one of my favorite bands as well.
Thanks as always.
My favorite B.O.C. album.... today 😆
Great song, and one of many by BOC (who deserves to be in the R&R Hall of Fame). Here are another couple of terrific songs by them: "Tenderloin" and "Morning Final."
Hey, Chod, how about some more Yes (it's been a while), like "South Side of the Sky," which is a classic you have ignored so far. It is terrific! ✌❤
"Tenderloin" has such a lovely jazzy feel and I have always found the dark slick 70's urban vibe of "Morning Final" to be quite intoxicating. Thanks for another insightful reaction clip.
Majestic song ever!!!
Their song transitions on their first 3 releases were simply amazing. Part of enjoying all the tracks, were the transitions. You really can't listen to them when listening to individual tracks on YT.
This track was one where Eric's vocals really shine. Not quite up to his "Astronomy greatness", but up there. Nice choice.
They all lived together, the songs were almost all groups efforts. Buck and Albert were magic together.
Easily one of the most diverse rock bands of all time, they went from West Coast Psychedelia in 1970 (Stalk Forrest Group) to Thrash Metal style for See You In Black in 1998, with everything in between too. Totally right that they took in many influences (Dead, Beatles, MC5, Doors, Sabbath, Zep, etc) but still sound completely unique. Hugely talented guys.
Check out a song from their 1st album.
Cities on flame 🔥 with rock & roll
So cool that you picked up on their ability to insert melodies within melodies 4:57
This album really deserves to be checked out front-to-back, it's pretty carefully constructed.
If people call you crazy, thank them. You're in good company.
Yes! Highly recommend "Astronomy." Headphones mandatory! The live version from "Some Enchanted Evening" is arguably better,as it features some killer guitar from Buck Dharma.🍺🤘✌️
Absolutely put them up there - In my top 15
Still hoping for that BOC ballad - I Love the Night...
Yes and also Nosferatu. The "double 1,2 vampire punch" ending off Spectres which is one of my favorite albums of theirs!
Once you try "I Love The Night" you'll kick yourself for not hearing it sooner.
Yeah, their greatest "vampire song" for sure.........or is "Nosferatu" it? I just wished he had done the original, studio version of "Astronomy" instead of that one from "Live 1976. That release was notorious for having perhaps the worst audio quality of any concert video ever.
On this album the songs run into each other so sometimes sounds weird when hearing one track
This band has been really good for the diversity of songs. The first three albums were done in the way they were experimenting with their sound. This was done by members of the band sharing in writing and singing their own songs. Sandy Pearlman originally intended for the band to be an American version of Black Sabbath but this process of sharing writing and singing the songs resulted in very different sound from Black Sabbath. This makes for the band’s unique sound but also made it hard for record company to market the band. Most of the bands of the time have a sound that is gotten by having a main lead vocalist, or lead guitar or song writer or writer’s,something that they can market.
Listening to the guitar solo while reading this. Talent does not necessarily lead to monstrous success. CBS had no clue about how to market them.
3:09 when you play the album from start to finish, then you'll understand.
love this song i heard they were going to tour with deep purple this year or nextyear hope so aloha
I saw them with Deep Purple in the 70s, I think it was $6 bucks to get in for utter brilliance.
@@vicprovost2561 i remenber them 6 dollarconcerts it was great ive got every ticket stubb to evdry show ive seen evan lynrd skinner last showin greenville too black sabbit on fri 13 about 4 BOC stubs 4 rush stubs and i got one black oak montrose and foghat stub im sure you been to a lot also owe i got a three dog nite aand reo speed wagon one reo got fired after show for showing three dog night how to rock aloha my friend

@@jeffretipton6887 I loved Ronnie Montrose, saw him 3 times, awesome guitarist. His first 2 albums when he had Sammy Hagar as lead singer are all time classics.
u need to listen to this and astronomy together off the album.it is an amazing transition.everything was recorded live back then. That's why they were so good live.they still are even though there's only 2 left.i saw them again last year.check out the symbol remains which they recorded during cv lock down.richie castellano mixed it after they all did there parts seperately and sent them.
One of my top BOC faves
Secret Treaties is Brilliant
They are a great band, under rated, you cut the song short, love ending.
Higher minded rock music for the thinking man.....
You might want to give a listen to "Buck's Boogie" from the album "On Your Feet Or On Your Knees"
There was also a compilation album put out by Columbia called The Guitars That Destroyed The World it had a version of Bucks Boogie on it that was different but just as good
When you've gone through your BOC journey, I hope you can find the time for some old 1970's Alice Cooper those are well crafted but lesser-known gems much like BOC.
And the ending you heard was the ending. It drops abruptly into Astronomy.
You still have some good stuff you have not heard from the first two albums. Teen Archer and Transmaniacon MC are suggestions. Love early BOC!
can you do a reaction to Stairway to the Stars by Blue Oyster Cult
Dude I love some BOC! Have you ever looked in to doing reactions on the Alan Parsons project? Dude made some legit stuff!
If you haven't alreaxy listen to Damaged from BOC. I think you'll like it.
maybe u could do box in my head off newest album.
Yes the newest album
The Symbol Remains is fantastic
I've always had one critic about this song. The repeating the first verse. I want more of the story. I've always wondered if Sandy had more lyrics, but it just didn't "fit" so they just repeated verse one again.
Yeah Flaming Telepaths! A seriously heavy rock song. When I saw them live in 1975 it was like they literally hypnotized the audience during this song. People were out of it, just swaying to the music. And the lyric " is it any wonder that my joke's a knife, and the joke's on you/and the joke's on you/and the joke's on you..." made the whole scene surreal. As they repeated "and the joke's on you", that was when it seemed like they were hypnotizing everyone. I was tripping, so that may have altered my perceptions, but even so, it was like they were casting a spell. They are so good live, and I always loved this song on the album. It does really end that abruptly, and then immediately goes into the piano intro of Astronomy.
I agree with you Chod. BOC belongs at the top. They are one of the best bands ever.
Lyrics are imp
I will check this out later but I have to say , I am a little saddened by your departure from reacting to old and even new progressive rock and jazz/fusion , funk etc in favour of more commercial and less challenging and obscure output . For me , it was what really made your reactions interesting and not so ‘ ho hum ‘. You were prepared to take a risk on obscurity but I guess with so many subscribers now , you’re only going to be able to keep some of the people happy some of the time . Stay well Chod and keep enjoying what you are doing , thats the main thing 👍
Love the progressive stuff too Mark, but this band has an absolutely amazing discography.
I shall dive in deeper . Thanks 👍
