    I would have tried to leave on the tabs and cut mesh to slip over tab for more security with the glue. Just a thought.

    • @cooliodiablo4571
      @cooliodiablo4571 2 года назад +1

      You couldn’t click in the tab though with the grill over it. It would cause it to protrude out too much obviously.

    Mike, the aluminum wont rust but it will corrode over time. Polishing it up from time to time will usually keep it looking good long-term.

    • @TheMisanthropeLives
      @TheMisanthropeLives 6 лет назад +1

      That why Id go with zip ties instead of gluing the mesh directly to the back of the grill. You epoxy/glue the tie brackets to the back of the grill.
      Just cut the ties and replace the mesh and re-tie.
      Had diamond shaped and after a few years decided to change to octagon and ties made it really easy.

    Are you not worried about restricting the airflow to the Radiator ? I would like to do this to my car but the mesh covers more area and I am worried it will be bad down the road for the car. Can you confirm if I should follow through with this?

    • @customcargrills

      The aluminum woven mesh I used in this video is less restrictive than the pattern that was in there from the factory. Air flow should not be a problem in this application.

    So i want to do basically the same thing- with a black plastic honeycomb mesh on a 2006 ford ranger xlt- to try to copy the appearance of a 2003 ford ranger edge

    • @customcargrills
      @customcargrills  4 года назад

      I think that would be possible but you'll need to change the install a little bit since the plastic mesh won't wrap around the openings like the metal meshes will. You might want to checkout this video for a different approach: ruclips.net/video/Zpe4VghwaCA/видео.html

  • @Skippygoesharder
    @Skippygoesharder 2 года назад

    So goop will keep the metal connected to the plastic? I’ve tried a few other epoxies and none would keep the mesh onto the plastic

    • @customcargrills

      Yes, the Goop works great for bonding mixed materials together, such as metal & plastic.

    so why cut the new grill into pieces? why not glue it in one piece?

    • @customcargrills
      @customcargrills  7 лет назад +4

      Sometimes that's possible and sometimes it's not. It usually depends if the factory grill has multiple layers behind the front shell or depends on how far away the openings are. In the case of this F-150, the main center openings are clustered close together which is good for doing a one sheet install but the sides are a bit further out that I would prefer.
      An additional challenge with doing a one sheet installation is finding a way to keep the center area flush up against the back of the factory grill. It could have been done with the F-150 in this video but I felt like the multi-piece approach was a better fit for the project.
      Here are some videos where I did a one sheet installation that you might like:
