Actually, the females in the pride do the hunting as well. When cubs are born, some watch the cubs while the others hunt. The males enjoy the spoils of the hunt and step in to help with hunting only when the pride is taking on huge prey. So mom cares for the kids, works hard, and brings food to the house. She technically only needs the male during mating season.

Actually, the females in the pride do the hunting as well. When cubs are born, some watch the cubs while the others hunt. The males enjoy the spoils of the hunt and step in to help with hunting only when the pride is taking on huge prey. So mom cares for the kids, works hard, and brings food to the house. She technically only needs the male during mating season.
