Great video as always. And this for Emma, per the NOAA: Salt in the ocean comes from two sources: runoff from the land and openings in the seafloor. Rocks on land are the major source of salts dissolved in seawater. Rainwater that falls on land is slightly acidic, so it erodes rocks, releasing ions that are carried away to streams and rivers that eventually feed into the ocean.
Stern tie rope: used a plastic spool that rope is sold from at the marine stores. Put a wooden dowel in a rod holder to hold the spool. Used a handle from an old drill as a crank. Worked great in the same Arm you are in.
As long as you don’t have a spool for the stern tie line, you might try the trusty bleu Ikea bag. Snip one small corner of to feed one end of the line thru. Then stuff the rest of the line in the bag and tie of the other end to one of the handles. Hang the bag from the stern rail, with a shacle or a simple carabiner. Secure the one end to a cleat and the other one to you. Attach the dingy painter to you as well, so you can approach shore and simply get out en tie down without fear of losing the dingy.
I follow about 20 Sailing channels, I rank Breaking Waves up near the top of my favorites. That anchorage was epic, probably one of the best I've ever seen. Even without putting the sails up this episode was great. Good luck to Greg and Emma with their fur baby.
Excellent video and the orca footage was amazing, how many people can say a pod of orca swam within 50 yards of thier boat? I think your buddies should definitely cruise down south with you! 👍
Both Greg and Emma are so comfortable on board and look like they belong there, so he’ll ya they should go to Mehico with you. Prayers go out to Dublin and really hope it goes well. Please keep us updated on his progress. I so love your videos, keep them coming.
Great vid guys. It is one of the coolest things to have them swim by Ive been fortunate a few times when fishing at Masset, Tofino and Campbell river to have them go by so awesome.
Wow what a fantastic episode, and yes I believe you should convince Greg and Emma to sail south with you. Hopefully Dublin can recover and be able to go along. I'm not really sure why Orca's, or dolphins for that matter, invoke sure giddy rapture in us humans other than they are simply awesome and majestic. Looking forward to much more, take care all of you and be safe.
Love the wales and ours do not try to eat our boats like in some countries . Living across Dallas Rd from the breakwater Transient whales have come up under my feet twice now . Also there for the octopus pulling the seagull down and watched a seal use one as a hat . Love our home . Playing catch up with all your show . Teach myself a little bit before hands on in March . Bundle up going to get cold next week .
Great vlog guys sorry to here about the dog hope he gets well soon I am a dog person and I feel for them ,all the best guys and they should sail with you for sure cheers.
Another wonderful video with great scenery, and the Orca's just put the icing on the cake. Definitely drag Greg and Emma to Mexico with you when you go.
You can get an empty wire reel from your local electrical contractor or electrical supply. It is easy to make a winder tool to facillitate winding up the rope.
👁👁👁....Wow that is so sad about his dog...Try and keep us updated....How spectacular was being able to witness those whales...Incredible....Please Please Please Invite Emma back on the boat ....Have her for the next season...😜....
We will keep everyone posted. Theres been a few new donations to their go fund me :). And yes Emma and Greg will be back in 2021 for sure - one more BC west coast season to convince them to come to Mexico!
Hey guys - we reached out to our local marine shop and secured a spool from when they sold the end of some line. Then we wound up our floaty stern line and it now sits on our stern rail.
Endorheic basin. Basically water flows into somewhere and can only leave by evaporation (which leaves all the salts behind). Its the same mechanism that gives us other salty bodies of water like the Dead Sea or the Great Salt Lake.
We rolled our 55’ live aboard ketch and ferrell kids into teakern last summer just before the smoke! We had it all to ourselves for 6 days, just a coupes day visits from people.
those orcas were cool. I heard they can tell the difference between and Chum salmon and Chinook salmon up to a few hundred metres away with their echolocating skills.
This has happened to me too - The orcas came towards us and passed right next to the boat. Good hook but obviously they have no interest in flipping a boat. They’re just looking for food.
I work on boats and had to fix a 27 ft Sea Sport Boat that a whale had breached under and it picked the boat up out of the water and it came down on its side and ripped the transducer off and cracked the boat. So it does really happen
Some Orcas have been attacking yachts in the North Atlantic off the coast of Spain and have damaged rudders on a few boats ,one boat lost half a rudder
Yes we've seen that, hence the somewhat exaggerated title, we were hoping to piggy back off that youtube trend and get a bunch of views on our channel.
Emma wants to know more about the world? All the answers are in the inside of Snappy bottle caps. This would entail drinking a LOT of Snapple.;) Not affiliated with Snapple in anyway.
It was a summer heat wave without much wind. Lots of episodes have lots of sailing if you go back a bit to before this heat wave. Tends to happen every year around August in BC
Looking for a cheap rope reel? Go to Harbor Freight and buy an air/water hose reel, then paint it with marine paint and tadaaa you have a marine rope reel.
The Killer Whale experience was just awesome. Shared time with friends , also most enjoyable ⛵️a venture to Mexico oh yeah can’t wait to ride along with.... __\_\))
Soooo much better thanks for asking! Greg was able to raise enough for the surgery. Check out ep 51 if you want. Dublin is running around a beach and swimming, happy as ever.
I know that the line reels from Ultra are very shiny and beauteeeeeFuLL , but you can accomplish the same result with actually MORE line capacity with a garden hose reel from Home depot or Lowe's !!! Just sayin !!!
The ocean is salty because it always waves at the land and the land never waves back. Either that or the fact that blue whales produce about 35 pints of liquid per mating session. Lmao
I got sunk in the Tasman sea by a 'big' orca , We were in a 36 schooner (The Red McGregor) It become Ah how can i say this 'sexually aroused' by our clean bottom , They become quiet physical in there mating games . Still here to talk about it , Couldn't of fancied me lol. Reminds me of the Marlborough Sounds in NZ - Beautiful & serine - Fairwinds .
Well one girl got eaten by Tillicum years ago and a surfer in California was taken by a killer whale and taken down deep. He managed to get back to the surface and required over 100 stitches for the bite marks. Im guessing it didn't like how he tasted and spat him out.
First of all, do a lot of research and get a trusted second opinion on the dog. Vets are in business to make money, I don't trust them. I have a dog and a cat, both 15 years old. They are my best and closest friends. The cat has chronic kidney failure. I see and smell the signs, I researched it as best as could. I had blood work done. I did not take my vet's word blindly. I will soon be sending her to be with her friend and my Pop on the other side. I will not let her get too bad. If your friends beautiful healer will be suffering the rest of it's life, make the call.. If the Vets say the surgery will cure the dog, go from there. It is a tough decision, but we need to face facts and provide a quality life for our loved ones, and a dignified passing. God Bless.
Your channel is the best I have seen on showing the beauty of western Canada, Cheers from Ontario
Thanks!
The Orca experience was epic. Ridiculously cool.
I agree!! Still can’t believe that happened

You can't buy memories like this . . . . . thanks for sharing
Very nice reminder of the summer...can't wait
I hope Dublin recovers well. Great episode guys, and Greg and Emma should definitely go with you.
Thanks Duncan! We'll keep working on them.
What a fantastic experience being so close to orcas. Well done!
Cheers Gray Australia

good tips thanks!
We used an old canvas duffle bag for a temporary solution years ago. Still in use today!

Another wonderful video with great scenery, and the Orca's just put the icing on the cake. Definitely drag Greg and Emma to Mexico with you when you go.
Thanks Dale - we'll keep working on them.
I love how you stern anchored/ secured your vessel
Yah that was a low wind situation, wouldn't do that if it was supposed to be a big blow, but perfect for a calm summer weekend :)
Beautiful
greg and emma would be gr8 addition to mex, love dublin best wishes for him. yes orcas were awesome, gr8 channel guys tks
We'll keep working on them!
You can get an empty wire reel from your local electrical contractor or electrical supply. It is easy to make a winder tool to facillitate winding up the rope.
Such a beautiful place to cruise! We love watching your videos. Keep up the good work! Aloha.
Aloha! It is stunning isn’t it?! Thank you!
Awesome and amazing...yes they need to go south with you! Best of luck for their dog.
I've seen stern tying nylon webbing on a reel on other sailing channels mooring in places like Turkey. Seems to keep things neat and tidy.
The ocean is salty because in prehistoric times giant dogs the size of semi trucks used the oceans to pee in, hence the word "salty dog". ooo nooo lol
Wow, Powerful. Once in a lifetime.
Looked like campbell River?? Rivera to

Emma's help untangling the anchor was so riveting, I watched twice. That's quite an asset to have as crew.
Hey guys - we reached out to our local marine shop and secured a spool from when they sold the end of some line. Then we wound up our floaty stern line and it now sits on our stern rail.
Thanks Angela seems like a good
solution
Love your channel
Thanks Wade!!
Wow grate video I've just found your channel and love it ⛵⛵⛵
Thanks and welcome!

Bit late but .....Ding ....Much hugs safe sail ......

Best episode so far! Has all the required content of a good sailing vlog. Keep it up!
Thanks Ryan! It was a fun weekend :)
Are you from Nanaimo? We are in parksville. Love your videos...Makes me want to get a sailboat ⛵
Yes we keep the boat in Nanaimo, but live in Tofino now. We are planning to sail the boat around to Tofino in a couple of months!
That's awesome 👌 Have a good one. Looking forward to future videos ✌🍻
a plastic spool ( as nick had said ) from a marina or an electrical contractor, supplier or big box store
Seems to be the way to go!
those orcas were cool.

An uncensored VOD or OF would be nice.
Any update on Dublin?
There no info on the go fund page sense April
He received his surgery and has been chasing sticks happily! Thank you so much for all the support❤️
I work on boats and had to fix a 27 ft Sea Sport Boat that a whale had breached under and it picked the boat up out of the water and it came down on its side and ripped the transducer off and cracked the boat. So it does really happen

I just got a heavy plastic spool that the places that sell rope throw away when the rope runs out. Was free. Put it through the railing. Works fine.

Don't worry about orcas, they don't eat humans. See the video of the woman swimming with orcas.

Well we are also musicians who like to play around a campfire - we were just being respectful to others by finding a spot to ourselves
I loath wake makers.
