I believe that ayah means that ultimately good men are for good women. Allah promises a pure spouse in Jannah .This life is full of tests, and our spouse can also be a test for us.
Everything Allah provides for us is a potential blessing or a curse, whether or not it's a test with hardship or ease. Our spouse may be a seemingly amazing person, but be our means of distancing from Allah, or may be a not-so-great person, but we use this as a means of getting close to Allah. Like the story of Firaun and Asyiah (RA), he was a terrible individual, but she was such a pious woman, he t0rtur£d her until she was martyred; this was by no means a punishment from Allah, but a means of elevation. Our beloved sheikh also said, "I think." This was a personal correlation he made with what he has whitnessed, we should take such comments with a pinch of salt.
