  • Today the Wii U online ( and 3DS) has come to an end. In this video I just give my thoughts on how I feel about it and reminisce about Super Mario Maker. This is a video straight from the heart where I share my memories.

Yes , I’m aware Pretendo exists, I mentioned it twice in the video. I gotta say that cause you know somebody’s gonna leave a comment about it.

I got my Wii U in 2015 and the reason I got it then was because of Super Mario Maker. Most of the time I spent with online gameplay was in Super Mario Maker. I liked using the Super Mario Bros style levels because of the different mystery mushrooms which meant you could play with whatever character you could like. Even characters such as Hello Kitty and Shaun the Sheep were playable. Unfortunately due to how Wii U discs are, my game disc stopped functioning the way it is supposed to. I did not spend too much time with other Wii U online games. On Saturday I actually played Dr. Luigi online for the first, and last time. I spent a lot more time with 3DS online because of games like Animal Crossing New Leaf.

I’ll never forget my first experience watching one of your videos it was playing super Mario maker on a CRT. Dr. Luigi is a fun time. I didn’t realize it had online. I really need to get animal crossing new leaf on 3DS.

Shame that it's shutting down. Glad you had some nice memories. I personally haven't played the Wii U in ages.

I remember a while back you said something about how one of your cords didn’t work for it anymore or something. Even without online it’s still definitely worth going back to from time to time. People forget how comfortable that gamepad is.

@@PKInTheUniverse I got a replacement adapter. But it's still collecting dust. But that's for all my video games at the moment

Thanks man . I made a video called “10 Wii U games never coming to Switch” back in 2020, and to this day, that list has held up. Not a single one of those games have come to switch.

As a platformer fan, I'm really really sad to see Mario Maker 1 go. Mario Maker 2 being so underwhelming.

It really is a bummer. Yeah Mario maker 2 was such a letdown.

You did not take too long on this video, you took as long as you needed to.

It's gonna be sad to see the remnants of gen seven/gen eight gaming when all of these live services are retired. Clearly none of this was ever implemented with a long term plan and no regard for preservation.

I fired Mario Maker up last week for one more look, play a couple of random levels for old times sakes a yeah I prefer this to the Switch version. I even downloaded the last Mario Kart 8 update having ignored it on purpose for so long lol. Most played online for me was Sonic Racing Transformed, it was way more polished than the xbox360 version so I class the Wii U version the definitive one. I played Star Wars & Zen Pinball a lot. Even played Street Fighter 4 online a few times on 3DS lol.
But yeah, shame it's gone. Hackers are to blame as they start taking the biscuit from tampering to stealing stuff and it's more trouble than it's worth to keep on top of things trying to stop it, easier to pull the plug sadly. 😞

It was always one of my arguments for why the Wii U was still awesome! It was cool that it still had free online. But yeah, at the end of the day, nothing lasts forever.
