    I'm pretty sure the process of scanning actors for toys has been around since at least 1999 since they did full body scans of everyone in Phantom Menace. Although, I don't think they started using the scans until like 2005.

    I've definitely gotta start collecting those older heroes from the pre-MCU movies. I already have a few Spider-Man figures from the Raimi movies, but I am in love with the idea that all those old movies take place in one shared universe. So I definitely gotta show that off in figure form.
    Also thinking of lumping the first Iron Man movie into that as well. That'd be great.

    Storm's infamous line about what happens to a toad when it is struck by lightning was written to serve as the payoff to a running gag involving Toad constantly bragging about all the awesome things a toad can do. Unfortunately, the build-up didn't make the final cut.
    I believe it was Simon Kinberg that was once asked that fateful question. His response was "He croaks! There's your line!"

    • @CarbonScoring
      @CarbonScoring  2 года назад +2

      Another fun fact about that line is that it is one of the few surviving lines of script from Joss Whedon's attempt at the screen play - which was deemed to "hip" with pop-culture references. I would love to see that full script...

    I really enjoyed the variety of figures you previewed here. Regardless of any feelings on the movies in which these figure lines were linked (one way or another), the labor that went into making these is pretty spot-on. I especially loved seeing the Dark Knight and DKRises-related Movie Masters figure lines represented! I only own the Batman Begins suit figure myself; I tried to spring for the ones from Rises, but due to my local stores only holding the kid-based lines (with larger accessories and figures in the 3 3/4" scale, like what you'd find at the dollar store), no Movie Masters - and not knowing about the big Internet market for action figures at the time - I missed out. Hoping to get some of the others I wasn't able to put my hands on in the future (especially the Bane & Scarecrow fig's).
    Also, while it pales in comparison to the Netflix show, I saw - and highly enjoyed - the 2004 Punisher movie starring Thomas Jane. He may not have been as tortured a Frank as Ray Stevenson in 2008's War Zone or as rough/cool as Bernthal in the series, but he still played the role right. It's not a perfect translation and you have to forgive the hammy bad-guy performances (especially from John Travolta), but the 2004 flick is still a pretty good time, particularly if you scout out the unrated version with extra scenes.

    • @CarbonScoring
      @CarbonScoring  2 года назад

      Good to know about the Thomas Jane film - I'll give it another try. And I agree with you wholeheartedly - the artists and sculptors and product designers and managers on these movie toy lines clearly did the best they could at the time to produce the highest quality toys possible - proud to own them!

    That 'boobalicious" Jean Grey is actually the second variant of that figure. The first version had NO BRA and a different headsculpt with her hair down. They added a bra for the 2nd version and resculpted her hair to be up, and then the 3rd version had her entire front torso resculpted to be zipped up.
    Actually, Most of the first wave X-Men movie figures had a variant to some degree or another. The 2nd release of Sabertooth didn't have the overdone hair highlights and the pistol that came with his collapsing cop pack-in was removed. Storm also had a bra painted on at some point.

    When I was growing up in the war. We only had statues and we had to eat 7 triple whoppers at burger king to get one

    36:17 I want to say that figure is from X-men Origins Wolverine, although yeah that head sculpt looks nothing like Hugh Jackman

    Fox: "Hey, we need a Daredevil figure for our movie"
    Toybiz: "When?"
    Fox: "...uhh tomorrow"
    I feel like someone just did that figure last minute. Daredevil movie figure was a missed opportunity. Everything was awesome, but the articulation.

    • @CarbonScoring
      @CarbonScoring  2 года назад

      The sculpt is top notch, but the articulation is much more consistent with the X-Men movie lines than Marvel Legends - I wonder if it was sculpted for a planned movie wave that got scrapped and they shuffled it into the Legends line so as not to waste the work.

      @@CarbonScoring It's a little strange cause the body mold is shared by the Red Skull figure as well

    • @MissPiperSparkles
      @MissPiperSparkles 2 года назад

      I always wondered as well what this figure's original intended purpose was. It's definitely.not.the the same level as other Marvel Legends of the time. The Toad figure in the first ML wave also had pretty limited articulation and I remember hearing it had also been originally sculpted for a different purpose.
