We were regular visitors to Kalkan twice a year for 25 years but why do flights to Dalaman from the UK stop at the end of October, if they carried on Kalkan would still be open and alive during the winter months.
I understand you, I also miss flights in the winter. Why does everyone think that you can only go to tourist places in the summer? I know that in winter there are many flights to Antalya. From there, in 3 hours along a very beautiful road you can take a bus to Kas. And Kalkan is close there.
I think it’s the other way round in that flights stop because the tourists stop coming? Like you we have been travelling to Kalkan for over 20 years and as Villa owners we are normally in town at the start of April and again at the end of October to open up and close the Villa down. Apart from the stormy season and the roaming dog packs the main reason I can’t see many tourists staying over the winter months (much as I’d love to rent throughout the year) is down to the building work that kicks off at the end of October and seems to go on until May and if you’ve ever been in Kalkan between October and May you’ll know Kalkan is hardly a quiet place to relax. That said it’s a wonderful town and we love it and yes it would be wonderful if it was fully open all year.
Yes, I think you're right. And nearby there is Kas, to which tourists come all year round. I've been to Kas many times, but it seems never in the summer. In my opinion, the Mediterranean coast of Turkey is much better in winter: calm, beautiful, sunny and not cold.@@sultanoftippoo3857
