Exactly. In "She's all that", "The Breakfast Club" and "The Princess Diaries", an arty / alternative-thinking person is turned into a preppie girl and that is supposed to be more attractive, because it looks less threatening. I liked "Miss Congeniality" but there is no way that giving her an aggressive personality and making her snort would ever make Sandra Bullock less than gorgeous. Actually one interpretation of the Ugly Duckling isn’t that awesome if you think about as a metaphor of a person who conforms with shallow people to fit into a toxic society. Andersen himself was bullied for his look when he was a kid (he even admits he’s the Ugly Duckling).
I really loved Fran from Strictly Ballroom. Tara Morice truly made a spectacular portrayal of her. Fran had scalped skin, big glasses and was awkward at first. As the movie unfolded, she eventually gained confidence and grew more beautiful and atractive as her dancing lessons with Scott continued. Then at the grand dance competition, she was the true Fran, a real beautiful swan grown from the ugly duckling in the tales. She turned everyone's eyes in the audience as she was as gorgeous and radiant like the sun, in that final, intense and passionate paso-doble with Scott.
It just dawned on me that Ann Hathaway wore the same blazer that she wore in The Princess Diaries in The Devil Wears Prada. I know real film buffs would've seen that already but, hey you learn something new everyday.

@Marga Ette: That's one of the movies I do like, Sandra Bullock is great, and so is Benjamin Pratt and you cannot go wrong with Michael Caine anyway, he is just lovely.
People out there saying everyone is beautiful naturally are pretentious. It's not illegal or evil to feel and look attractive. Not everything is about low self esteem. Take care of yourselves and feel beautiful. You can see all these women's confidence levels increased. Sometimes people need to see a cleaned up version of themselves to get out of their comfort zone.
I like Toula’s transformation because her ugly duckling look is slicked down straight hair and her makeover look is with her hair curly. We curly haired girls always thought we had to straighten our hair to look prettier!
Where are: Hermione - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire?! Elsa - Frozen?! Belle - Beauty and the Beast?! Velma - Scooby Doo 2 & Mystery Begins?! Sandy - Grease?! Odette - The Swan Princess?! Nanny McPhee in both films?!
How the hell was Belle an 'Ugly Duckling' before she was put in that dress? Well, people like you are part of the problem. There was nothing wrong with how they looked before their makeovers and please stop mentioned Sandy from Grease.
Belle was the beauty of the town as mentioned throughout the movie. Odette herself was as delicate as a feather, Hermione just had a glow up not transformation to be exact and Nanny McPhee wasn't really ugly to be exact, it's just the way people looked at her and as they started noticing her good sides they saw more good in her but let's just say she do deserves to be in transformation list. Agree about Velma though.
Ouuuuuuu, I LOVE that dance scene on the boat in Anastasia:33333. It's the time they just started really getting to know each other and having feelings😍
I really hate that term, "ugly duckling" cause all of these girls were prettier even before their extreme makeovers. No wonder there are so many young girls today that think this is what people want, so they turn to starving themselves and thinking they are supposed to look like a supermodel. It's quite sad.
@Sheena Nixon: From the fairy story, The Ugly Duckling. If you never had it read to you, suggest you find it and read the story, you will be surprised by the ending. But I do agree that these teenage films are not sending a great message.
I think the term "ugly duckling" is a perfectly good term. The point being that there is a beautiful swan in everyone but it's the way you see yourself that makes you beautiful. All of these characters (at least of the movies I saw) put no effort into themselves and had low self esteem before the transformations. They put in some effort and saw their own value which made themselves beautiful. There is nothing wrong with that.
One y'all missed was Grease. Towards the end of that movie where Sandy asks Frenchy and her friends to give her a complete makeover because she was in love with Danny and at the same time she wanted to be as cool as he was.
That one doesn't really fit though. She went from beautiful and innocent to beautiful and trashy. This was showing the transformation from plain to beautiful.
I loved *Ever After* so much. Any time they do these female empowerment countdowns, I always wonder why Danielle isn't listed. I always think about the end when the Prince comes to "save" her and she's already coming out of the house. My favorite will always be Adrian from Rocky. It shows just what confidence can do. Her whole life she was told she was ugly until someone finally looked past her awkwardness and told her she had always been beautiful. She is like my favorite character ever written.
And loses her Joisey accent, AND jump-starts her career, AND does it all on her own! It should be #1 on this list, and it's not even an HM?? Epic fail!
I always got mad at princess diaries. they should've just added product to her curls instead of straightening it. Curly hair is beautiful and should be embraced!
I agree with most picks but for me the one not only missing but hands down the best one was Muriel in Muriel's Wedding. And it is a meaningful transformation because it was not someone conforming to society's standards of beauty but almost the reverse. It was a film about embarrassing your individuality and becoming confident because of that. Muriel truly blooms and transforms throughout the film in the true sense of the word.
My favorite is a league of their own. This movie is about according to a socialite character in the movie"a group of young women being plucked from farms across America to see which one could be more masculine." Because they were athletes playing baseball in the 40s. So the guy who ran the league had a group of beauty pageant women come in to give every woman in the league a makeover which gave us classic lines like "The eyelashes let's thin and separate try to remember ladies there are supposed to be 2 of them. "Color her hair so people can tell this twin is the girl" And my personal what do suggest for this woman, "A lot of night games".
I think probably the title should be "top 20 times we made girls think glasses make them ugly" since all movie makeovers are pretty-girl-with-glasses-takes-off-her-glasses-and-everyone-suddenly-realizes-she-was-pretty-all-along.
One I think y'all missed is Nanny McPhee.... it's a slow transformation but its stunning

Actually one interpretation of the Ugly Duckling isn’t that awesome if you think about as a metaphor of a person who conforms with shallow people to fit into a toxic society. Andersen himself was bullied for his look when he was a kid (he even admits he’s the Ugly Duckling).
Konrad Dygudaj the lesson is that there is true beauty within.
Honestly the best quote from Hans 💞😄
How is she's all that a mention? The audacity.
I seen PD aka The Princess Diaries
Movie & Part 2 both movies was so
Good. ❤❤❤❤🌈🌈🦄🦄❤

It’s literally used as a verb to describe a makeover! Like: “Are you gonna she’s all that me?!”
Andy’s Devil Wears Prada glow up is iconic.
The fashion montage in The Devil Wears Prada is one of my favs.
Wow..I thought i was only seeing it myself
Allison still looked better before her Girly pastel transformation, in my book. Even her actress, Ally Sheedy, agrees with this! 😍🖤
Thank you, someone said this. I honestly saw no actual glow up in this. All that was done was black was swapped to blue and her hair was pulled back.
Yesssss!!!
Well her hair was brushed... and THAT was better.
@@yvonnepalmquist8676 yeah better than one's hair getting all messed up to the point that they might need to get a frigging haircut and I'm literally speaking from personal experience
It's amazing how many makeovers simply involve losing the glasses and curling/straightening hair to match what is in fashion at the time.
Anne Hathaway was even beautiful when she was in her "ugly" phase, but after the make-over... Man... I still fall in love with that smile!
Ever After ...one of my favorites!!!!
Thank you for including Fran in Strictly Ballroom - a highly under rated film!
That thumbnail is VERY EXPLAINING
Looks pretty before then WOW BAM
And Cady changed a lot from the beginning of Mean girls
Anne Hathway is outstanding , awesome , amazing . My favorite .
Love the Drew Barrymore Cinderella
CALLING ALL FELLOW CURLY HEADS! Your hair is beautiful as it is. I hated my curls for the majority of my life and now have 2 curly wurly gremlins of my own, and I make sure every day I remind my daughter how lucky she is to have such beautiful curls.
The ugly Betty original vertion Colombia was the best transformation
I must ask WHY Audrey Hepburn was on here. She’s ALWAYS gorgeous
interestingly in interviews she says she never really saw herself as pretty and all that
Miss Congeniality, is the ultimate transformation
And Victor's dialogue along the way was priceless....
The miss congeniality transformation is the most satisfying for me
@Marga Ette: That's one of the movies I do like, Sandra Bullock is great, and so is Benjamin Pratt and you cannot go wrong with Michael Caine anyway, he is just lovely.
OMG well said and I somehow totally agree
I like Toula’s transformation because her ugly duckling look is slicked down straight hair and her makeover look is with her hair curly. We curly haired girls always thought we had to straighten our hair to look prettier!
Where are:
Hermione - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire?!
Sheena Nixon the town even said she was beautiful even while wearing the simple blue dress.
Seriously? Hermione (at least in the movies) and Belle were clearly beautiful from the start.
Yess definetely Hermione Granger i absolutely loved her transformation even though it isnt as evident in the movie as it is in the book
Ouuuuuuu, I LOVE that dance scene on the boat in Anastasia:33333. It's the time they just started really getting to know each other and having feelings😍
She's Out Of Control... holy crap, yes!!!!! This was mine and my bestie's favorite movie as kids!!
Being given more expensive clothes isn't really the same as an "ugly duckling transformation." I wouldn't count most of this.
Jaime - a walk to remember
I really hate that term, "ugly duckling" cause all of these girls were prettier even before their extreme makeovers. No wonder there are so many young girls today that think this is what people want, so they turn to starving themselves and thinking they are supposed to look like a supermodel. It's quite sad.
I agree
but you do realize the ugly duckling was never ugly...
Yeah. My counselor told me not to look at fashion or pop culture magazines. As a adolescent, I wanted to look like some of the celebrities on tv.
Muriel from Muriel's Wedding wasn't on this list? Shaaaaaame!
My personal favorite is Julia Ormond's Sabrina (1995), that short hair is iconic!
I'm happy strictly ballroom was on the list. It was such an odd movie, but the dancing was divine and Fran's transformation was so great.
So excited Moonstruck made the list! Cher reminds me so much of my mother and I love this movie
Anastasia’s blue dress is one of my favorites in any animated movie I’ve ever seen.
In "Ever After", only one of the stepsisters was mean to Danielle-Marguerite
Exactly. Jacqueline was always nice to her.
I loved *Ever After* so much. Any time they do these female empowerment countdowns, I always wonder why Danielle isn't listed. I always think about the end when the Prince comes to "save" her and she's already coming out of the house. He tells her he's there to save her and she's like, "I already saved myself." 🤣😂🤣 There's something beautiful about that because it takes away the helpless damsel in distress trope and allows her to enter their lives together as an equal. 🤗
@@dr.braxygilkeycruises1460 "it takes away the helpless damsel in distress trope and allows her to enter their lives together as an equal" and manages to do it without man bashing or misandry. Back when movies knew how to show strong women without belittling men.
I always loved Anya's "What?" expression at 1:59. She doesn't realize her own beauty and that's what makes her all the more endearing.
This is what the third time you guys have done this list and Cady's STILL only in the HMs?
I knew right away The Princess Diaries would take the spotlight. Plus being more great in Ella Enchanted.
BUT I AM SO GLAD YOU INCLUDED FRAN FROM STRICTLY BALLROOM!!! Oh, how I loved that movie as a kid and still do. That was my introduction to Baz Luhrmann. Genius!
Jawbreaker & maid in Manhattan will forever be my favorite movies 😅
For me, number 1 is Jamie Lee Curtis
(Helen Tasker) in True Lies. Strange you've forgot her in your list. Best transformation ever.
When I realized who played Ty Ventura in Maid in Manhattan I was so excited! He's so adorable as a kid!
I love a good makeover montage.
Honestly, Ever After is the best and first Cinderella story I know, beautiful story
I remember the woman secretary from life size that the doll (played by Ms Tira banks ) helps her with and the secretary captured the attention of the guy she was crushing on
that my favourite scene in the entire film, not that she got a makeover, but Eve gave her a confidence boost too
Cryptic Charm same!!!
I love the movie she's out of control! One of my favorites! 😊😊
Thank you so much for combining your two previous videos on makeover in one....... Great effort. 🤣 🤣 Give me a break. please make videos on new content please.....
I love that you had my fair Lady at second place. Eliza Doolittle is gorgeous and her makeover does not only means clothing. Her makeover is more the accurate use of English language. That's why I would vote for her to be number one and Mia on second.
Totally agree. Unlike the other films the transformation was the whole purpose of the film. It should have been number 1
Never Been Kissed... lol, I remember that...:>3
I could’ve sworn they posted this before. Like I am feeling major déjà vu right now 😂😂
I love these videos!!!!
Marisa Ventura - Jennifer Lopez (Maid in Manhattan)
Samantha 'Sam' Montgomery - Hilary Duff (A Cinderella Story)
Cinderella - Ilene Woods (Cinderella)
Danielle de Barbarac - Drew Barrymore (Ever After)
Gracie Hart - Sandra Bullock (Miss Congeniality)
Andy Sachs - Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada)
Mia Thermopolis (The Princess Diaries)
Two movies comes to mind. The house bunny and So undercover. I will never use the word ugly, but the makeovers are really good.
Anna Hathaway transformation was really good.😀😀😀
My favorite will always be Adrian from Rocky. It shows just what confidence can do. Her whole life she was told she was ugly until someone finally looked past her awkwardness and told her she had always been beautiful. She is like my favorite character ever written.
you missed Barbra Striesand in The Way We Were. Sissy Spacek in Carrie and 3 Women. Robin Tunney in the Craft.
Or Barbara Streisand in The Mirror has Two Faces 🙂
Moonstruck was a wonderful movie that my beautiful late mother and I loved to watch together
What about working girl? She goes from secretarial clothes and hair to elegant business woman, with a bod for sin!!
And loses her Joisey accent, AND jump-starts her career, AND does it all on her own! It should be #1 on this list, and it's not even an HM?? Epic fail!
Selina Kyle’s transformation is amazing 🤩
Drew was so sweet and badass in Ever After ❤
She was wonderful as Josie Gellar too!!
You guys are crazy!! For the last one she had very beautiful curly hair! Nothing ugly! Smooth and defined curls.
St. Trinian's makeover montage is my favorite)
I always got mad at princess diaries. they should've just added product to her curls instead of straightening it. Curly hair is beautiful and should be embraced!
Straight hair is also beautiful and should also be embraced too lol
@@monabohamad2242 Okay? But if they have naturally curly hair it's not necessary to straighten it. All lives matter vibes. Gross.
Ballroom dancing is amazing. My dad enjoyed the film when he was in the navy and said it was one of his favorites.
My favorite is a league of their own. This movie is about according to a socialite character in the movie"a group of young women being plucked from farms across America to see which one could be more masculine." Because they were athletes playing baseball in the 40s.
So the guy who ran the league had a group of beauty pageant women come in to give every woman in the league a makeover which gave us classic lines like
"The eyelashes let's thin and separate try to remember ladies there are supposed to be 2 of them.
"Color her hair so people can tell this twin is the girl"
And my personal what do suggest for this woman, "A lot of night games".
Not all of these girls were ugly to begin with.
The top three were correct, so I'm pleased (at last!). 👍
Anne Hathaway acting in princess diaries
Love Strictly Ballroom. Didn't think it would be in this list cuz it's not well known. 😍😍😍
I think probably the title should be "top 20 times we made girls think glasses make them ugly" since all movie makeovers are pretty-girl-with-glasses-takes-off-her-glasses-and-everyone-suddenly-realizes-she-was-pretty-all-along.
love that you included Strictly Ballroom
