  • Let's explore Guadalajara, one of the most interesting cities of Mexico! Immerse yourself in its wonderful architecture, culture, and fabulous food, before relaxing in the nearby towns of Chapala and Tequila. Find out what you can see, do, and eat in Guadalajara!
    Places we visited in Guadalajara:
-Mercado San Juan de Dios: The largest indoor market in Latin America, wonderfully chaotic and alive. The food section offers enormous choice of food stalls.
-Guadalajara downtown (Centro histórico): The heart of the city with many beautiful sights all around, especially in the area surrounding the cathedral with its four public squares.
-Catedral de Guadalajara: An impressive cathedral in the middle of Guadalajara city center, a must visit in the city.
-Palacio de Gobierno: A former national palace with delightful colonial style architecture and home to the beautiful ceiling mural painting by José Clemente Orozco.
-Templo Expiatorio: A beautiful neo-gothic church near the downtown area, one of the most beautiful in the country
-Tlaquepaque: A nearby district of Guadalajara (officially a town on its own) that is considered as the artsy and bohemian part of town. Full of art galleries, cafes, bars, and restaurants, perfect for a night out.
-Chapala: A lively lakeside town that is a popular day trip destination. One hour bus ride away from Guadalajara, with frequent bus departing from the Central Vieja bus terminal of Guadalajara (old bus station).
-Tequila: The town home to the world famous alcoholic drink. It's a beautiful town 2 hours away from Guadalajara, pretty much awash with Tequila and Tequila based cocktails, and you could visit various Tequila distilleries and experience Tequila tasting.
    Food to taste in Guadalajara:
-Birria: Lamb soup, perfect for breakfast. Some of the best birrierías can be found in Plaza de las 9 Esquinas near Guadalajara downtown.
-Torta Ahogada: Bread with meat and tomato sauce, typical from Guadalajara.
-Aguas Frescas: Refreshing drink of various flavor that are ubiquitous in Mexico.
-Pozole: A kind of meat soup with vegetables.
-Menudo: Tripe soup in rich broth, a must try if you love tripe!
-Campechana: Tortilla with meat and cheese.
-Nieve de Garrafas: A type of ice cream with various flavors.
-Michelada: A quintessential mexican drink, made of beer mixed with all kinds of stuffs, including tomato juice, chilli, various salsas, etc. Has unique taste that is probably not for everybody.
