In 1998 while working for Toyota, I told a Doctor that If he could afford a New 6spd Twin Turbo Supra, get it. Put it in storage and he would get an excellent return on his investment ...Fast forward to 2023, if you can afford a 200 Series Land Cruiser Heritage... get one! These will be one of the most sought after collector vehicles in less than 20 years..
This 250 thing is ok and will probably sell well at the reduced priced from previous 200 Series prices but it does not compare in :heavy dutyness" and that V8 in the 200 Series. LC 200 Series is the last of the "true" Land Cruisers IMO and I am bias as I own a LC 200 and have owned many 80s, 100s, 200s. Love your content man as I am also a big LC enthusiast.
@@thelandcruiserproject Haha yeap that is very true. I think only time will tell. Curious to see how the engine will do as well. The 5.7 is proven with minor reliability issues.
I think the new GX will have more of an effect on used Land Cruiser Wagon market than the 250 LC. I think buyers who were waiting to buy a used 200 cruiser could be enticed by GX for its amenities which are more on par with US LC wagon specs and the powertrain is more appealing over the LC250. Plus it just offers something new and different for that $65-80k price range. I can see nicer lower mileage 200 series coming down to match this in time.
I am a LC novice, so my thoughts are little more than comic relief. My take is the 2024 LC and GX550 will have little effect on the LC200 market. They are similar enough to have some cross shopping but not enough to measurably move the market. I believe softening of used car prices across the board will have a larger impact on pricing over the next 1-2 years. Nothing unique to LC’s. I secretly hope there is a softening as I want to pick up my first LC and am currently looking at the 2016+ model years. Durability is one of my favorite traits. I would be selling a very mint 2007 GMC LBZ to do so (likely best example in the US market)…both vehicles which are tops in the durability category. So a bit of a bitter sweet change but one that I am mentally / emotionally ready for. My eyes and perspectives are open. Searching for the right LC is fun and TLCP is a wonderful place to learn and sharpen my searching skills.
Prices will hold for another 2 years IMO. Toyota can’t keep up with production on anything, we’re a long ways from seeing 250’s cruising around I think
I’ll stick to getting Lol LC with 100k plus miles and working through mild repairs. I just can’t do any better and am not willing to pay 60k for what amounts to a sorta better 4 Runner.
What Toyota really needs is a removable top SUV to compete against Jeep and Bronco. The LC250 has a Land Cruiser badge but its not a replacement for the LC200. The rest of the world got the LC300 which is ment to be the replacement for the LC200. There's a worldwide following for the flagship Land Cruiser that the LC250 can't fulfill. Even the LC300 has a tough time replacing the LC200 because it lacks the V8 power and reliability, it has smaller interior dimensions, only seats 7, there is no split tailgate. If the LC300 offered a panoramic sunroof that might help sway foreign buyers to the new tech. As far as I can tell there isn't a panoramic sunroof option for the LC250 either. With the introduction of the LC250 it spells out that Toyota USA has made the Sequoia their flagship. I realize the Sequoia is big, powerfull, and has a lot of tech. The Capstone even has real leather and a Panoramic Sunroof. But in comparison the LC200 has better materials and build quality. The Sequoia is also missing the full-time 4wd option it once had. End result is most LC200 buyers aren't interested in the Sequoia. Back to the LC250, if Toyota offered the 3.5 TT V6, Panoramic Sunroof, 7 or 8 passenger seating along with all the other bells and whistles it would be a good option to dethrone the LC200 here in the US. I think the LC200 will continue to hold it's resale values related to what the economy will bear.
I get where Toyota was going with the Lc250. Need to separate it from the 4runner. Less plastic, Split tailgate, diesel option with a 65k price and I'm sold.
I do think the new LC 250 or Land Cruiser USA, will have a direct effect on the 200 series pricing. But only for enthusiasts. I think the new LC 250 is going to attract more of the mall crawler crowd/buyer but with a mix of those wanting a great off roader. I don't think the true enthusiast is going to gravitate towards the LC 250. At least not the ones that are on the fence right now deciding whether to wait for it to hit the market or wait to find that right pre-owned 200 series. And they, will drive up he market on the 200 series. Maybe not immediately, but within the first year of the 250 hitting the dealers. Me personally, I am holding out for a the right 200 series. I think the 250 is a nice LC, but Toyota should of marketed it for what it truly is and that's a Prado. Toyota knows the US market well enough to realize that most American buyers don't care about what the chassis is, just the nameplate. I feel they should have just put the TTi4 in it like in the overseas models will get, but marketing once again, they are saving that for the new 4Runner. Same with the engine choices in the "Land Cruiser" and GX 550. I think most enthusiasts will not like the hybrid engine, as I don't. Only time will tell, but if I were in the market for the new 250, I'd head over the Lexus dealer and pick up a new GX 550 as I'd rather have the TTV6 over the Hybrid. @stanglover28966 I do think there will be a mix of prospective LC 250 buyers looking at the GX 550 & even the GX 460. Mainly those wanting proven reliability. I even find myself looking at the GX 460. Can't get my wife to overlook the "Predator" grille. Haha. I'm over it. I just want a solid 7 pax SUV.
I kind of expanded upon this in the weekly recap video just now. I think 200 Series Land Cruiser prices will stay more or less stable but still coming off the inflation high, but LX570 prices are really going to sink.
I think the car market in general will have a 30 year window. Probably starting in the 2030s, where naturally aspirated engines and manuals and even turbo charged engines will increase prices for used cars . As we move to electric/hybrid only. The enthusiasts won’t be on board . After millennials die these cars will go down in value . After 2070 this car enthusiast market won’t exist. It’s sad but luckily I will be headed to heaven haha .
It will not. At eod it’s a 4banger with no split tailgate and 100% less build quality. Oh and what is up with the black unpainted plastic fender flares on everything these days including This Toyota ???
Predicted Final Price: Sold for $107,000
Actual Final Price: Sold for $107,000

Thanks for being here and supporting the channel. Didn't LC enthusiasts say the same thing in 98 with the departure from a solid front axle?

Agreed my LC200 is staying in the driveway! Toyota needs to step up and bring the LC300 to the US
And as for the pricing. No chance. They will actually go even more up in price. It’s technically half the truck

I always look forward to your videos. Drop multiple a day and I’ll watch all of them.
That's very kind. I'm glad you enjoy them.
Hit the nail on the head regarding selling price of the 21 HE - $107,000. Looks like 200 series LC prices are holding steady.
🎉🎉🎉 I sometimes get lucky!

You were spot on the price lol
Am I an "Influencer" now? 🤣

X3 locked Solid axle is a bridge too far. I suppose diesel is on that bridge too😢
I’d never pay that much. Haha I’ll wait till the 2024 drops, then I’ll snatch one up.
Those cheap ass buttons did ruin my mood too.
🤣🤣🤣
Considering prices of 20/21 LX570 + LC200 is still MSRP or so, I sure hope there is some short term depreciation coming!
They will go up…
I think you're right. Especially the last few years. They'll hold steady.

IMO, the 200 series LC prices in US will actually slow down in depreciation with this announcement.

Welcome to the party!

thanks 👍👍, i’ve been on that site a lot, but you always know the best threads on it i’m thinking , very cool !!
I am watching all of the land cruiser videos to soak it in and every one has a honda SUV ad... they on it.
Sorry for that. Can you skip them?
In any case, we like our CR-V so far.
No worries at all - just an observation that everyone is ramping up the ads to combat the Land Cruiser interest. @@thelandcruiserproject

I hope so. Wanna pick up a 200 for cheaper
I might be over 200s until slicktop VDJ200s hit 25 years old in ten more years.
