      Do it all and right or don't do it at all, especially when changing colors. Unless you are never going to actually sell it to anyone that cares..then do what you want. But if you're not going to sell it..why spend money on paint for something that's already 30+ years old?

    I bought one 2 years ago, I live in SoCal, it’s was around the same price for one with 92k miles for a White Limited 4x4 Double Cab. Mine definitely was not as clean as this one, mine had cosmetic damage running boards were scratched, headlights were oxidized, Steering wheel leather was discolored, Front seats needed leather replaced, and tires needed to be replaced, fast forward to 2024 it’s all he repaired and I really enjoy it. Prices are higher because we live in CA and Toyota tax on sought after vehicles. Most the other ones I for sale had 150-300k miles on them so I feel pretty confident I’m the purchase.

    Just wanted to say THANKS for making such a helpful tutorial. Your thorough and patient explanation inspired me to tackle this project and I consider myself a newbie with car maintenance / DIY auto-projects. I bought a junkyard wheel for $50 (+ $50 shipping) and had it shipped directly to Craft Customs. Took about 3 weeks to get back to me. Just finished the install -- took me about 90 minutes but that was with a few pauses to grab the right tools. Things I picked up that I didn't have: a plastic pry tool, a torque wrench that went down to 10 lbs., and a 1/2" socket extension. You'll need an extension or deep drive 19mm socket to reach into the wheel. Also, O'Reillys tool rental will loan you a steering wheel puller set for free. I did that and ended up not needing it -- my wheel came off with a little tapping. The cruise control clasp was a little stumper, but came off with a flathead prying up there. Swapping the cruise harness to the new wheel was an easy 2-screw process. No trouble with the horn or airbag either. That wasn't as scary as I thought it might be! One question for you: when putting the new wheel on, do you think you need to get the EXACT teeth placement correctly, or just eyeball it? Now I have my old wheel that I'll either sell on mud, ebay, or maybe send back to Craft Customs to get refinished and then sell. For those wondering, Craft Customs pricing as of May 2024 is $300 for smooth leather all around, $350 for OEM style (leather and perforation), or $700 for leather + wood (Lexus style). Anyways, thanks again, this was a fun project and made me feel great that it went as planned!

    • @thelandcruiserproject
      @thelandcruiserproject Месяц назад

      I'm glad my video helped you tackle this. That's awesome to hear! There are only so many splines on the wheel and steering shaft, so it's easy to get off by a little bit when you put it back on. If it goes back on the wrong spline and is off, you can either take it off and try to get it set right or have the alignment guys sort that out.

      Good question. I think it depends on the trim. 1958 LC is going to feel like like the FJ Cruiser, which felt cheaper than all 4th and 5th gen 4Runners. I think the same will hold true for the 6th gen. The LC LC and LC FE will be on par with all but the base SR5 4Runner.

    Regarding the wheels that you mentioned that it looked like it may have been touched up/painted over, I suspect those are actually the original condition. These OEM wheels are likely to be some sort of shadow chrome/hyper silver paint where a black base coat is applied first then the silver is layered on top. Seems like the silver top coats are getting faded and the black base is showing. Just an interesting trivia haha. Really enjoying your detailed going through these ads even though I'm not even from USA. Just a passing kiwi LandCruiser fan! =D

    I think this is a standard LC converted aftermarket to a heritage edition look alike, no roof rack and has 3rd row seats, heritage did not come with 3rd row seats. Spare tire is the standard LC wheel. Disappointing you didn’t pick up the after market conversion to heritage.

    • @thelandcruiserproject

      You are not correct. The 2021 was 3rd row optional. Only the 2020 didn't have the third row. Check out my video detailing the 2021 HE brochure. Additionally, the stitching on the seats match the HE trim. Also, just because they removed the easy-to-remove Yakima basket doesn't make it not a HE. Also, I've since learned that the HE's spare wheel didn't match the other four. forum.ih8mud.com/threads/matching-spare-wheel-for-heritage-edition.1250248/

    I paid $8,000 for mine in 2015 it now has 280,000 miles on it and since I’ve had it I have not had a single issue what so ever. I’ve put some money into it over the years, not because it broke down I just peice by piece have replaced parts to ensure it’s going to last forever. Currently I’m replacing the whole timing belt setup even though it was still working perfectly fine which it crazy because it’s the first time the timing belt system has been replaced because in trucks this old they usually only past around 100,000 miles and this truck has 260,000 miles. But other then that writhing the last 8 years I’ve replaced that, full brakes and routers, ignition coils, spark plug wires, the exhaust system( with stock exhaust ) I’ve actually replaced everything with stock OEM parts. So like I said it’s sitting at 260,000 miles and it runs like a brand new truck rolling off the lot, I haven’t had any work what so ever done to the transmission and it still feels like a brand new truck. I’m so happy I bought this truck when I did because they don’t make trucks like this anymore whatsoever not even close for it to be such a small pick up truck which used to be considered full sized and having a eight cylinder engine is awesome like it’s nothing special but it’s definitely got some get up and go and power but that’s why I think 10 or 20 years down the roadto have this truck fully stock in perfect condition will be a cool little truck to have for sure you already don’t see many of this make and model on the road anymore and when you do, they’re usually beat up

      I’m gonna wait a few months after getting all of this timing belt and alternator stuff replaced because it is costing a decent chunk of cash but next order of business now that everything engine wise is in perfect mint condition I’m going to start replacing all of the interior cosmetic parts, one at a time like the dash knobs all of that stuff, which may be a pain in the butt to findalso like headlights and tail lights the little light over the back window stuff like that I know that stuff is pretty easy to find OEM parts. My goal is to just keep the truck 100% stock parts.

      @@smody121Bought it a couple months back. To give more context, the seller had posted on FB marketplace describing issues with the suspension and transmission. When I ran a carfax, it also showed it had rear structural damage. The seller lent me the car for half a day where I had my mechanic do a bumper-to-bumper PPI. Among other things... we found the AHC fluid and accumulator globes needed replacement. We couldn't find any rear structural damage (bc all factory welds were intact) which led to calling the Lexus dealership -> then the body shop that did the work. Ended up being all cosmetic... nothing structural. So I negotiated down and picked it up for $30K : )

    How do I contact you about a rare imported 80 Series (Turbo diesel) I found? I want to put a deposit down on it ASAP in case it’s a really good find… You seem like the person to get the best opinion from!

    Opinion needed. I have a 1995 LC80, owned by the same people for 29 years. White paint, with brown cloth interior. 275K miles - I bought it from my architech who kept it well maintained and in his garage when not in use. He sold it to me for $8500...but I honestly think its worth more. 100% stock original. no lift, 33" BFGs (I put on), no smoker, no kids, no pets Northern AZ (Sedona) car... No rust at all.

      @@thelandcruiserproject sunroof, yes. factory roof rack. No spoiler. No front and rear lockers. Only a central diff locker. He had it listed for sale and got nothing but lowball offers because it was not triple locked. But when I saw it, I was 👀 He told me he had it listed for $15,000 originally. And then after all the lowball offers, he lowered it to 10K I really did not need a third vehicle, so we settled on $8500 to take it off his hands I don't know these vehicles all that much... I own a pre-runner and 5speed 4x4 tacomas...

    I've had a couple of these now and that is indeed superficial rust. I don't care if it has texture, I care if it has holes I can't repair. These are never going to be perfect at this age. 5 out of 5 would buy, but not at this price point.

    17 city/19 highway??? Every other stock 1999 100 Series LC in the US with the 4.7L V8 including mine gets 15/16 highway and single digits around town.

      What modifications have you done? Also, keep in mind your vehicle is now at least 18 years old. It can't be efficient as it was when new.

      @@thelandcruiserproject Mine has no mods, is regularly serviced, has 209,000 miles and runs like new. All stock 100 series get the mileage that I'm getting. The point I was trying to make is that anyone who claims that their LC gets 17 city/19 highway is a liar or a scam artist or both.

    That is the wrong climate control for a 40th it should have a digital temp like the lexus not a slide.

      @thelandcruiserproject 5 месяцев назад

      I'm not sure that's correct. I don't recall seeing digital temp in any 80 series (Toyota or Lexus)
