Paradise Lost has been a part of my music catalogue since the beginning of the 90s. They are influenced by the gothic bands of the early 80s so your Sisters of Mercy reference is certainly not off. They were the masters of Doom/Death in the early 90s. They changed to a more accessible sound later on but returned to their earlier sound on their last few albums.
‘As I Die’ is one of my absolute favorites but if you want to discover their complete spectrum you have to listen to several songs from their discography. The album ‘One Second’ is way different than for example ‘Gothic’ or their debut album.
Thanks for listening to this (underrated) band!

I remember buying a ticket for this live show. It was a streamed event during the first long lockdown in the UK. It was always intended as a stream event, not adapted from a planned normal show. A welcome thing as everything was still getting used to the 'new normal' and no-one knew when the end of it was coming. The band has been around since the late 80's starting as a death metal band with doom/gothic elements. Their output has varied so much over their long career, going from death metal to a kind of 'Metallica if they were from Yorkshire' to a Depeche Mode-like period. They have always been intriguing, and their last few albums have been a really strong period for them. Been luck enough to see them a couple of times in person, and will certainly do so again.

I can't express in words how much I adore this song. she's absolutely gorgeous. but in the studio version. With all due respect to the live, the studio version is simply divine, where the mixing of all instruments and vocals is simply perfect. You should listen to the live after the studio version

Absolutely amazing band. They changed their style quite a few times but everything they made is pure gold. They pretty much created Gothic metal and are the undisputed masters of melancholy 👌

YT needs more PL reactions. These new albums with Valtteri on drums are just amazing, on par but different from the first albums.

PL has never made a bad album. Draconian times, self titled, tragic idol, faith divides, one second, gothic, i mean literally evertything they have done is amazing.

PL are second to none in the metal universe. Mackintosh is a music god. PL is out of everyone's league. The only bands you can compare them to are the classics from the 60's, in terms of the quality of the composition and the arrangements: Pink Floyd, The Doors, Jethro Tull. Every metal band sounds like apprentices in comparison.
