Wow... just saw where YT auto-placed the mid-roll ads on this video -- sorry about that! Ads do help small creators like myself, but I still just removed half of them because IMHO that was just WAY too many. I also re-slotted the 3 remaining ads to more natural breaks in the video. I'd remove more, but I'm afraid YT would down-promote this video if I did. I guess this is how they push the Premium service. 😒
@@donniev8181 Yes, we do, but it seems a bit more "smoke and mirrors" as the tracking always seems a bit off. Truth is, for a relatively small channel like mine, the ad revenue really is minimal, but... videos with ads get promoted/listed more by YT, so it actually helps my videos reach a wider audience.
It’s so wonderful to see you and keep hiking with you. Always amazing places full of beauty. You were out of breath, no wonder. It’s 9000 feet at least. Keep going. You’re a huge inspiration, your hikes are unusual.
Thanks! Yeah... I was definitely breathing hard early on in this hike. This was partially for starting at the high elevation, but... also as I'll admit later in the video I was really out of shape this spring! Still glad I got out and made it happen (especially after essentially skipping last year.) Thanks for watching!
YES. Fantastic. Jamal is back. A family feast for us. Every saturday and sunday morning we follow you and my heart goes out to these red sandstone canyons. So great you've posted your newest adventure. Funny, but over the years you and Mr. Shadow somehow became part of my family.
@@NorwegianXplorer Really?! You must be a bear magnet! (cue your Sequoia Bear video.) 😉 I've still never seen a bear in Utah. I've seen a bunch of tracks in and around Bryce as well as some in the Abajos. Even in the Sierras I've only seen a few. Guess I'm a LOUD hiker. 👍
@@Acrossutah Yeah, pretty high up in Death Hollow, like a few hours down from the Hells Backbone road. I do tend to run into animals, I am a pretty quiet hiker, no poles that click, so that might have something to do with it, this bear in DH ran away pretty quickly though.
Fantastic! so happy to see you have a new series up, this is some Amazing terrain wow.. "welcome back" /ugh/ in the most remote corners, we find them too so sad oh well... anyway looking forward to the next episode thanks so much for taking us with you
WELCOME BACK! That's so awesome. I mean has anyone ever seen a Welcome Back balloon before? That one was just for you Jamal. Congrats on the hike. Happy Trails.
From your recommendation and the videos you posted in the past we drove to Utah from Michigan and hiked Wire Pass into Buckskin Gulch. What beauty!! So glad we were able to do this hike yet at our age. The road into Wire Pass with my AWD was something else but we made it. We also camped at Kodakchrome State Park and hike through Willis Creek and went to Bull Forge to see the truck stuck in the slot canyon.
Finally getting to watching your latest video series...such great memories on my first few days back on my version of The Hayduke Trail! Had the same experience with Bryce Point, the Peekaboo snowpack, the snowstorm! Can't wait to watch more!
Awesome. I was thinking about you as I was heading south along the Under-the-Rim Trail -- wondering which footprints in the dirt were yours! 😀👍 Hope all is good and Happy Holidays!
Hello from Australia. Wonderful landscape. I hope one day that I can come and do some day hikes at Bryce Canyon. I am looking forward to your next video.
Something got me thinking of you and your Bryce to Bears Ears trip while I was on the river just over a week ago, and I was so excited to see the new vid today. Thankfully RUclips isn't also down today! :D I really liked the time-lapses (or hyperlapses or whatever) of the trails in this one.
Yeah... I questioned if I should have still posted this with all the outages yesterday. I'm such a small fish I guess it didn't really matter. 😀 Glad you liked the hyperlapses -- I did too, but unfortunately there won't be any more for this hike due to on-the-trail technical difficulties. Thanks for watching!
I appreciate this video series crossing the kaparowits plateau to Bryce.... you picked a really tough track. I've done many sections of these Trails. thank goodness for Michael Kelsey's books.... what an incredibly lonely place. I saw on average 1 person every 4 days.
Hooray! Welcome back, lol. Hey did I run into you on the JMT in late July? Probably not you since you're mostly about Utah, but the guy's voice was so similar. Glad to see the new content; something to look forward to during our darkest month (not the shortest days, just no snow yet!).
Hi Jamal - a few days late watching this, but it was excellent as always! Thanks for all the work you do to put together these epic trip videos; I've been watching since the beginning, which was...🤔? 10 years ago at least! Also, I was going through my IG feed recently, and saw the sad news about your dad...I'm so sorry to hear about his passing. You were so lucky to have a dad (and parents, actually) that encouraged and supported your love of the outdoors and the solo hiking you do - that is a wonderful gift 🙂. Looking forward to the upcoming installments 👍🏻
Thank you. ❤️ I think I first published on RUclips 12 years ago -- but have since posted a few videos from hikes even prior to that. So, yeah... I've been doing it for a while now! It all began just as a way to share my trips with my family and friends. I'm delighted that so many years later the channel is now enjoyed by others and has actually led to new friendships (both real and "virtual"). 👍
Always great to see you and wait, where's Mr. Shadow? Saw him last time by the way, great vid also. Hope ya had a blast. Enjoyed it, ✌️ Wheelchair John in Idaho 😎
Thanks! And... yeah, the beginning of this trip was pretty chilly and overcast -- Mr. Shadow really doesn't like those condition! But... he'll be back! 😉👍
Great video Jamal. Just got back yesterday from 2 weeks in Utah visiting the 5 parks and... I liked what I saw. We just day hiked a lot but we did hike the Peekaboo trail in Bryce, wonderful little loop. We had to do it from Queens Garden because Bryce Point trail is closed due to a big rock fall. I think I am hooked, thanks to you and the wonderful geology of Utah. Hope I will learn to design and plan longer hikes in the near future. By the way, I even got a photo of Mr Shadow !! [MY Mr Shadow of course]. Thanks for the great content that you share with us.
Rumor has it- that a bear from Bryce found a videoblogger camping across the line in Dixie Natl. Forest, dragged him into Bryce, and ate him. That's a joke. I'm bingeing on your vids while waiting for the new ones to come out. They're the best hiking vids on RUclips, you know. Love 'em.
Haha -- I hope my jokes in my videos never come back to BITE me like that! 😀 I finished a 9-day loop hike earlier this month in the Paria area and have lots of video/content to share, but... it'll have to wait until after I do my bigger hike in May! 🌞✌

Thanks! Yes, that was my older Insta360 -- a One-R for that trip. Thanks and very cool. I was a bit secretive about the "track" for this hike, but now all will be revealed. And... if you miss anything I will provide the full map on my site after the video series is finished. Thanks for watching. 👍
Jamel me and you were in Bryce the same day you filmed this I remember that storm. I was suppose to hike peek a boo that day. But decided to hike the lower Bryce trail from rainbowpoint too peek boo, but never made it. If I started at peek a boo, I would have probably passed you. Anyway I'm watching this becuase I would like to hike from Zion to Arches one day. Thanks for the Video.
That is true! 😀 Though... there are some *really* bad places to fall in Utah. Luckily the spot in question wasn't *that* bad... and I didn't fall. Thanks for watching! 👍
Thanks for watching and the comment. There is something uniquely peaceful about the longer trails in Bryce away from the popular spots -- def do it if you get the chance.
Jamal, Great video. Excellent footage & good descriptions. I know your website has the maps of your journeys, but having a more detailed map in your videos would be appreciated. Your music levels & choice of music are good; I hate backpacking videos with loud music. Technical questions: what camera & selfie stick are you using that makes the selfie stick disappear in your videos. At certain points, you seem to have a drone but the noise levels from the drone are not obnoxiously high; how did you accomplish this? Keep up the good work!!
Heya Christopher! Glad you liked the video. Finding good music and the appropriate level has been a challenge -- some of my earlier videos missed the mark (but I may be re-doing some soon.) I *really* wish RUclips allowed for ALTERNATE audio tracks to allow creators to make updates and/or viewers to turn on/off music. Someday maybe. I agree re: the maps on the video -- I actually meant to do it for the last video on this series, but it fell through the cracks. But yes, the full interactive map is a part of the written trip report on my site. RE: the camera -- those shots are done with a 360-degree camera which has the ability to "hide" the selfie stick. It also enables those panning shots on a tripod. It's not as high quality as a traditional camera, but I love the unique shots it provides. I plan on talking more about this in the much-delayed follow-up video. Thanks for watching and the comments/questions!
Haha -- yep! 😔 Granted this is just part 1 and I do speed up as I go, but... I expected to catch a bit of grief about my daily mileage which was definitely slower this time around compared to previous trips.
