WOW!!!!!! I just saved a 1929 Singer 99. Your collection makes me speechless. Great work. You're amazing! I wish all of the old sewing machines could be saved.
Wow! You need to do a big coffee table book of portraits of these beauties. People don’t understand, these are power tools and they changed the world pretty radically. It’s important history you’ve curated together here. Besides, if I had a couple good picture books, I could stop buying old sewing machines to hoard. Maybe.
Yes, I have many books out on Amazon, but you are right I should do one of these beauties. I did a Millenium Calendar back in 2000 with some great images and it went down a storm.
@@alexaskaroff It would be great - and a treasure trove for anyone starting to research their old sewing machines. I'm reading your book about Frister and Rossmann because I've acquired a Cub 7 and there's so little information about all the different models and their "timeline".
@@alexaskaroff and it should be a very special book - premium paper and photographs. I bet you could successfully offer pre-production sales to prove to publishers that there was a demand for premium quality photography, paper, and binding...
Alex, Congratulation on such a lovely museum quality collection of sewing machine. I am in awe of those machine, I can just imagine your joy in collection such exquisite machine, so show room quality. I love to sew and all machines. If I were a collector of course I would only get the most perfect models. Thank you for sharing, I haver never seen such beauties.
Do you see the tears in my eyes? They speak volumes. Your collection is more than stunning; I want to spend days seeing just this room and not only the machines but also all the other memorabilia you have collected. Thank you, Alex.
Seriously the most beautiful room I have ever seen! I hope you consider doing a book on this amazing collection to document in print your life's passion and the journey in time of these great machines. I also love to listen to your voice, I can hear the passion for the art and mechanics of these machines. Thank you so much for sharing with us, I will be watching again and again it is so wonderful!
Is it strange that I get so much satisfaction from seeing this collection? Wish it was open to the public, it is fantabulastic [my late father would say] What passion all in one room. Lovely of you to share it Alex, Thank you ....
What a wonderful video showing off all those absolute beauties and collections you have. Wow! That must feel like a breath of fresh air every time you look at all that.
Oh, my! This makes me want to cry! I adore seeing the history preserved. I pray you get each of these out and run a few stitches from time to time. Absolutely, stunning!
Impressive collection. .. for now I thought I was alone with my 26 sewing machine from my personal collection after watching yours I know I am not the only one!
Alex, I have seen a snippet of your collection from another video, but I have to say this was a real treat to see the entire space. I cannot believe all the amazing pieces of historical machinery housed in such a loving and protective way. Thank you for caring so much to preserve the past for future generations. As someone else said you should publish a book on this lovelies with histories of each one, how you acquired the pieces and anything else of importance. Thanks so much for sharing this with us.
Oh my. What a stunning collection! I found your video after scrolling through Pinterest trying to find images of an old Gold Medal Home Shuttle by Johnson, Clarke and Co. My neighbour's 90 year old father just gifted me this antique machine. She is in really poor condition to be honest. I would love to clean her up and give her some love, but I'm definitely not in your league! How it came to be in Lancashire from Orange, Massachusetts will forever be a mystery. Thanks for sharing your collection.
Glorious collection, love the storys. I would like to hear about each one. From the earliest to the later models. Ones used in industrial and ones used at home. The metronome cased one is so sweet, would love to see all of it. Thanks, really enjoyed Felicity Sydney Australia
Thanks for the informed tour! Beautiful collection. I hope you can make time to voice record or write each machine's history and a plan for who gets them next xx
I look at my little 4 machine collection and i get really smiley and happy. The top of your head must nearly fall off your smile must be that big. Some beautiful machines there.
That was so beautiful to see. Thank's for letting me visit. I too have a collection , I call it a whole Era of sewing machines. My Grandmother's Treadle/ her sister's Aunt Mable's electric crinkle Singer from the 40's to 1950's Aunt Ediths Singer.. to my 1970'sKenmore and 2000 Kenmore serger.. and many others that were given to me .. a hybrid Singer of ( mother-in-laws) to many other plastic Singers.. Recently I purchased a work trailer and I want hydro in there.. but that requires a complete hydro upgrade so.. but dreams come true.. wirh this summer I will have my sewing studio up and running and some how have hydro & have afternoon tea with my visitors once this pandemic is over. Thought to share my joy of collecting too..thank-you
Wow. Thanks for sharing with us. I know that I would never been seen such an amazing collection of fine machines if you had not taken the time to do this and share it. Thank you again.
I always supected you had the best collection in the country. Given the quality, it must be world class. I must get down to Eastbourne. It puts my 85 machines in the shade but I did not see an Eagle.
I am busy on my next book Off The Beaten Track. It is all about my travels in the sewing world and should be out later in the year. Similar to Glory Days, hopefully the best yet.
OH wow, this video is just absolutely wonderful! What beauty, what magnificent history! I can't thank you enough for sharing this inspiring video. I'm so happy that these treasures are still with us on this earth! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you do in your meaningful work!
Oh Alex - that is beyond amazing! I need to see them in person. I’m surrounded by my starter collection of Singer’s (7) and have read all your sewing books. My husband and I are traveling throughout the UK at the end of April and most of May. We hope to meet you. It would be a dream come true! A Scottish sewing friend of mine will be taking us to the Clydebank Museum on May 11. Can’t wait to see all the vintage/antique machines there as well. I’ll email you to see if this is possible. We’re from Oregon in the USA...
thank you very much for your video!! and your investment in this heritage preservation. I'm french, so i dont understand all you say during your vidéo, but its realy interresting! I have an old sewing machine, but i dont know from each year she is made. Maybe its possible to ask you?
Like a camshaft in a car imagine the ratios that the different chain stitchers and or sewing machines had depending upon the mechanism they use to time either the top shaft with the bottom or whatever. ran off of either one.
Omg these are so beautiful! I have bought your books. You are such a wealth of knowledge. I appeciate you so much! And my husband thinks my antique/vintage 11 machine collection is bad! Question...Do you have your collection insured?
Alex i forgot to ask you before, i wanted to know if you could make a video on how an overlocker works? I have seen diagrams of how a lock stitch works but even looking at my overlockers i cant really see whats happening. I hope you can do a diagram for me thank Richard james
i just wondered, have anyone heard the name Oscar Wiesner & Maechler. All I have gathered is that they are produced in Hamburg in Germany, but they might have gone bankrupt or changed their name as I can’t find much info, if any info on them
+ ghazal Because these incredible vintage sewing machines, if well looked after and maintained, can last (and actually work) for hundreds of years. We live in an age where shoes, sofas and plastic gadgets have a short lifespan. Then there's our smart phones which have an average lifespan of 2.5 years and then end up in landfill. According to The International Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) in 2022 , *5.3 billion* mobile phones were thrown away.... "You need to be a little crazy. To show or not to show. That is the question? I had always hoped to encourage other collectors around the world and my Sewalot.com blog tries too. Don't worry , they'll all disappear quicker than a summer breeze a week after I'm gone. A million hours of rebuilding, love and care bringing them all back to life will vanish in a flash.
