I agree. Prior to the war we could had pulled NATO forces back a set number of miles from Russian border. And Russia would move back the same number of miles from the border. This war didn't start 2 years ago. It started in 2014 with the help of Victoria Nuland and her organized interference of a rightfully elected government. The US then followed up by supplying the Azov Nazi battalions to storm the eastern part of Ukraine where they began attacking ethic russian territories refusing to join the western portion of Ukraine. This is an orchestrated war for the west not the Ukraine government. Russian intervening was to protect the citizens in the eastern part from the Azov battalions whom began to cleanse the region. Don't be mislead by this propaganda. They didn't care about the families in the donbast that suffered from war and the Military Industrial Complex profiting from this conflict.

My understanding is Russia has been harrassed by the US through Nato since the fall of the Ussr. All of my father’s people came to America from the Ukraine area which was Russia at the time. It seems this newly formed Russia has only ever been interested in not having Nato soldiers on their border, as we would likely not want another nation’s weapons on our border. Now, I’m hearing Russia has missiles near Cuba and that until recently Russia has not referred to the U S as “the enemy”. I believe my sources are pretty good.

Just because it's resource rich it doesn't mean we defended them for that. For example they discovered gigantic oil reserves on the east of Ukraine a few years ago, AFTER Euromaidan 2014 and the annexation of Crimea. We supported Ukraine throughout all that, training them and preparing them for this. Of course, not to the extent that we do now.
What is clear is that Ukraine would probably be less of an issue in our eyes if it was a desolate barren land, but it's a resource rich, big, populated country that wants actual democracy for once.
On the flip side, Russia wouldn't care about Ukraine at all and wouldn't have done any of this if it was resourceless
