thanks for the information, as an Indian citizen living abroad over the last several years, there are lot of things I did not know that I should be complying with. Thankfully your session explains all that so well.
Great video! Thanks.
I hope you are aware that India is most likely the only country where you have multiple identity documents - passport, Aadhar, PAN card and Ration card. Most countries have ONE (maybe two if you add driver's license to it)! I think you should speak the usage of a single identity document and the government needs to hear this from multiple sources
Thanks Keerthi. Wonderful tips. I usually do some of this but having this consolidated list is very helpful to tick off. Especially given the geotagging of Indian govt websites, its best to get these things sorted when one is back home.
Yes !
I aman Indian Citizen 85 years, resident in India for more than 183 days in a FYear, I have PR of Canada and reside there for 153 days I have no assets in Canada.I have substantial holding in Equities and a house property in India.I pay substantial Indian ITax as Resident Indian. What is Best way I can transfer my equity holding to my daughter in Canada, a Canadian Citizen holding OC and an NRO Accoun.
Madam you mentioned close PPF account I think it is wrong
We can maintain if we already have PPF when we resident in india. But as NRI can't open new PPF account
Yes sir, I meant that. As nri one can’t invest in ppf but if the account was already opened as resident it can be held till maturity.
@@keerthisfinfonricommunity Thank you manam
I have PAN card but no Adhar card. How can I get one being an US citizen!
It is now new rule that NRIs if they want to obtain Aadhar card they have to stay for six months in India. Since NRIs do not get absence of leave for such long time they are in great difficulty. Within six months the authorities call you for verification of documents, any additional submission of documents etc. when NRI should be present in person failing which his application is rejected. Please verify this with Govt. Of India.
Just for my understanding. My dad purchased the land for 2 lacs in 1986 and spent another 3lac for construction. In 2011 he gifted me, demolish and reconstruct with another 2 cr spending. Now market price 6 crs, if i sell i.e 6 crs - 2.05 cr(expenditure) x 12.5% (LGT) = aroudn 49 lac tax? is my calculation correct? it's commerical property. pls advise.
Not sure I understand what you mentioned on SSY. You mentioned that if you have a n existing SSY but your daughter stays with you abroad, the SSY is of no use. Please explain further on why? Is there any restriction on this? Maybe I don’t understand fully how SSY works so please clarify

From where did u get the Craine?
I had mutual fund investments as a resident Indian and now being an NRI those mutual funds cannot be redeemed as the tax status has changed to NRI, is there any online way to get those redeemed or transferred to my NRO Portfolio?
Please make a video on equity investing - direct stocks -- do we need to convert into NRO non PIS account -- Incase our abroad stay is not even permanent

Hi Thank you so much. SSY - Post Office people says its ok? Is there a written policy i can find somewhere? Can i please have a consultation with you?
It’s like our bankers are telling don’t close your savings bank account after becoming NRI .
@@keerthisfinfonricommunity Nice example. So i can close it without trouble?
@@atlean100 yes, you should be able to
I still have a PF account from my previous employers in India, and I have been an NRI for the past 7 years. Is it legal to hold it? And if I want to withdraw the money, can I use my NRO account?
Yes
Close your account and move this amount to a debt mutual fund.
Hi prashant,if you had opened in your resident status and then became nri,it can be continued. I think the word ‘invest’ is creating confusion here! I meant fresh investment!
And when your withdraw or upon maturity it is credited to nro account
@@keerthisfinfonricommunityNeed a little more clarification please. What I already understood from other resources previously is that if PPF was opened when one is a resident, it can be continued after becoming NRI. This means you can continue to deposit money in that till its tenure of 15 years reached. But can’t renew it after that. This is right? Do you meant the same thing?
@@arpic Yes, you can keep PPF open and keep depositing till maturity.
Is ppf need to be closed?. Is it not ppf opened while residing in India (earlier to moving overseas) can be continued till the maturity.
continue till maturity- 15 years . Then close…
Very good info.
Is there a NRI aadhaar? (NRI with a foreign passport+OCI/PIO card )
No
I am UK citizen and have OCI also, can i stay in India for 120 days in a year and 365 days over past 5 years and still be non resident for tax purposes i am a pensioner with no income in India
U can stay in india for any period u feel like.
However, u hv to comply with tax laws
@@PraneshSR3 thats what i want to find out if i will be Resident for tax purposes as per my original question
@@mukundshah8466 i think for 120 days, not rqd. IT act mentions 180 days. Do cross check as well
Is Aadhar card now available to oci holders and citizens of UK
@@anu_inspired6744 no sir!
Mam, can you have both NRE and NRO accounts in different banks?
Yes , you can
@@keerthisfinfonricommunity You can have NRE Non-PIS Account in multiple banks but NRE (PIS) account can only be with 1 bank. PIS stands for Portfolio Investment Scheme and this account is required if you want to invest in Equity Stocks on a repatriable basis.
@@deepakagrawal465 Question is about bank accounts not demat accounts , I guess
@@keerthisfinfonricommunity NRE PIS is also a bank account as I understand it, which is to be used to link with demat account. I have 4 bank accounts (NRO PIS, NRO Non-PIS, NRE PIS and NRE Non-PIS) and these are linked to 4 demat accounts.
Hello, I am an NRE account holder and do not have any sources of income in India, therefore I am not required to pay income tax or file returns.
I obtained a PAN card while working in India, but I have since relocated abroad. Can I still use the same PAN card?
Could you kindly provide me with your advice?
Thank you in advance.
can we continue our investements in existing mutual funds? after became NRI
Yes you can …but link it to NRO
@@keerthisfinfonricommunity what about USA NRIs ? I heard they are not allowed to do that ?
@@keerthisfinfonricommunity why do v need to link it to NrO ?
@@iam-raheem who said?. where is that rule?
Do NRI need to have Adhar card it’s illegal to have one
It’s not illegal. But is not mandatory:Having Aadhar will make your life easy.
is it worth having a seperate health insurance in India as well for NRIs?
It’s cheaper in India, so you can consider having one…
Great thanks
Can you explain why SSY account is no use?

You can check here
Can a US CITIZEN,OCI HOLDER RESIDENT IN INDIA FOR MORE THAN 183 days have a resident bank account
Bank account depends upon fema which considers your intent. If you intended to leave India to settle down in foreign country or not to return India then with the proof of flight tickets, one can open nre and nro account.
In your case you are US citizen, it becomes must to have nre and nro account unless you have an intent to return and settle down in India permanently. Number of days are irrelevant.
@@keerthisfinfonricommunity you are a Godsend. Grateful Thanks
