I LOVE the photo of the city peaking out of the fog. Especially the rainbow colours! Beautiful!
thanks so much Tara!
wow that rainbow image with the city is just wonderful! Fantastic video overall and a wonderful insight to your thought process. Cheers
Your clouds and fog photography are always so beautiful to see! These are my favorite things to watch as they float by. That rainbow image is breathtaking! You're never without a 🌈 wherever you go ❤😊
Great photos. Thanks for sharing. It's so helpful seeing what you shoot. Your sincere enthusiasm is contagious.
I love watching you work. You and your photography are so relaxing. Love your work.
Looks surreal! Very cool shots.
Thanks Michael, really inspiring video and what a nice place for fog 😀
Love your videos and easy going approach to photography Michael. Some stunning images here as always! I think that rainbow was the result of a phenomenon known as the Brocken Spectre. BTW, totally jealous that you can get incredible fog at sunset. Here in Wisconsin, when it does happen, it's always at sunrise.
Incredible photos and beautiful story behind 😃 Really engaging video.
Excellent info! Thanks for taking me along!
I really love your videos.. big fan. Greetings from Peru
So lovely!!
stunning work! that city image is incredible
Thanks so much Brian!
Always top tier. Great video Michael!
Stunning images, thanks for sharing.
Yeah, fog is tricky. I tried to shoot fog along highway 280 around San Mateo in the past without much success. I figured that I need something like 300-400mm (I have a 70-200) as I found the shots I like were all close ups.
Stunning Shots
Great pictures - great perseverance
i love these fog photos. Nice work michael
Glad you like them!
thanks!
Thank you for knowledge
Thanks for watching!
That's the beauty of being a photographer of most any type... Great video! Thanks!
These are breathtaking!
thank you!
superb
I like your style!
Thank you for the great video. I miss San Francisco so much.
beautiful and I had seen your fog water flow in the past and it was fantastic. Mike, I enjoy your photography.
Great stuff Michael, particularly as others have said, the cloud top rainbow. I love your ideas for subjects and compositions, often spectacular like your waterfall images etc all using modest gear. As they say, it's not the gear, it's the photographer...
You might not get the waterfall, but the picture with the city and the rainbow looks super nice - my favorite. The perspective with the larger view and the smaller tower in the frame looks really cool and interesting too. Thanks for sharing ✌
Thanks!
What a beautiful evening! I’m going to be out in late September. Will have to try this.
At least you have clouds. Southern Nevada is nothing but chem trails. Great shots as always.
Great video that highlights some epic shots but also the reality of the difficulty of just waiting. Would you ever consider doing a walking photography sunset tour? I live in Bay Area and would love to join you and others to explore these scenes and hone my skills. I love doing telephoto minimalist photography like the surrounding shots.
Love it! I live in the Bay Area and love how the fog flows like a wave over the hills!! Any other location on the peninsula you recommend to go to try and capture these kind of shots?
Have you already heard of the Leofoto G2 geared head (it can be easily combined with your standard ball head when it makes sense). That helps a lot when working with such telephoto lenses
These videos are unbelievable. I recently came across your work, and as a 14 year old starting-ish photographer, I’m inspired as ever. I’m also looking to get this 100-400 soon, but will definitely need a mount ring. Can I just ask which you’re using? Thanks so much!
Amazing Landscape 2:45 and 6:06
Great video, Michael! Does Kase make magnetic step up rings? Would be awesome to use an inlet ring in my 77mm 100-400mm lens with 77-82mm step up ring without having to screw it on!
Amazing ❤ Did you actually stay on that mountain the whole day??
As someone already said before me, that rainbow-halo is a Brocken spectre:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brocken_spectre
I would like to know what trails is that ❤ love your work
Hey Michael - great video and some lovely shots. I too have the Sigma 100-400 and have a question for you. When you're using it on a tripod do you have the lens stabilisation turned on or off?
Awesome video as always! Are you using the 82mm filters with your Tamron 28-200? No vignetting at that size?
Any tips on predicting the Conditions?
8:35 woahhh that looks like AI stuff
Gavin said to keep both pictures as well 😊
Hi Michael, where do you look for fog spots on your phone?
Where does one find an advisory to which filter kit to purchase? At $600, I would hate to purchase the wrong unit.
All of the different kits and adapters can be found on their site kasefilters.us/
$600 seems quite high, is that for the mega set? I personally use the 82mm Revolution kit and then use a step down rings to 67mm & 72mm. If you do not need a 10 stop filter, you could get the entry kit which looks like it has an ND64 and CPL. Or their pro kit to have the 10 stop included. The inlay rings & step down rings can be purchased separately, you just need to make sure its the same as your front element of your lens.
Technically, what you photographed is a "fogbow", not a rainbow. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fog_bow Beautiful photograph.
Michael, do you use any app or website to know where fog is, or do you just rely on intuition?”📍
Taking landscape photos isn’t easy; in the end, Mother Nature sets the rules! 📸🌿🌄
Does that magnetic ring mess with your lens cover sticking to the lens? Great Views
Thanks so much, nah doesn’t interfere at least on my current lenses
@@MichaelShainblum Now my next question is: I shoot Canon and my biggest lens is a 95mm and my smallest is 67, I believe. So I get Kase 95mm ND's and use the adaptors to fit the lenses so I can us the 95mm on ALL my lenses. Can you use the ring and have to use the correct size filter of use, say a 82mm ring and the 95mm filter will the filter fit? Hope hope you understand my babble. How was San Diego?
@@robryan4272 Yeah thats tough having that kind of range with the mm. I use 82mm filters and then I have rings for each lens both 67mm/72mm then I use the magnetic step down adapters from 82 to 72 and 82 to 67.
Sounds like you would need to do the same thing from 95 all the way to 67, which would be a bit annoying, but doable.
Kase do step down rings so you use filters for your biggest lens and then get step down rings for the smaller lenses. The only downside I’ve experienced of their system is the magnet that holds the lens cover in place isn’t very strong and I lost mine while out walking a few months back. The low profile of the attachment ring gives a poor fit for the original cap that belongs to the lens
Marin headlands
Do you mind to share the location in a map ?
That tower shot with the clouds above and below looks like a Roger Dean painting!
Your clouds rolling through time lapses and your photos overall are stunning in this video. Use them in a book (the photos). Gavin Hsdrcastle #Fototripper will be jealous.
I guess from the jacket it's not sweltering hot where you are? And if you don't need to keep it a secret, where are you, actually?
He says Marin County at the start of the video. That’s in California, north of San Francisco.
@@SquashBox Aha. Thanks!
I have spent a lot of time in that area, and I have practical questions. How do you find your way down the mountain in the dark? Don't you worry about big animals attacking you in the dark? The crime in the Bay Area is off the charts. I would not feel comfortable walking around there with all that equipment without an armed guard. And even then I would not do it. I have taken thousands of photos there many years ago, but not now. I have good friends that live in the Marina District, and they have told me not to come and visit them.
You can tell that some of the talent of Gavin has rubbed off onto you. 😂😂.
