Yes it is a well established treaty and they are not violating it. They're building outside the reservation. Its not on their land, and its parallel another pipeline that was built in 1982. That was also voted on and approved by all tribes in the area, currently and historically. Just like this one. Approved in 2014 by all the tribes after 300+ meetings. In 1982 they went through with archeologists during construction to look for any artifacts when they built it. That is why they chose the same corridor for this one. Where it intersects the river, it is 90 feet under it, and at a position 70 miles away from where the Standing Rock tribe will collect their water. Protest oil infrastructure if you want. But this isn't about water, sacred land, or violated treaties.
Regardless of who owns the land, it's not 100% safe, which in my opinion makes it 100% wrong. There is no benefit to the people of the U.S. as they repeatedly claim there is. Please provide me with one rational reason to allow this.
One rational reason
1. Create jobs and allow for the growth of the energy sector in the economy.
No one pays attention when you show them why their cause is flawed. They already have it in their mind that it is wrong and they have committed so much energy and resources into this organized tantrum that no amount of factual rebuttal will sink in because at the end of the day, it's like you said...not about water. I have made similar dissertations on several pages and they typically all go unanswered and anti-Trump which is completely asinine, Obama never halted anything, all he did was prolong an agreement that has already been decided. I keep pointing out that the anger should be focused on those individuals that made the deal and have already been compensated. They completely ignore the part about the various tribes who knew about the corridor and agreed to it. They don't want to take responsibility for their part in this either because they do not know or do not care. It does not fit the agenda...Thanks for the info.
It was all native land there at one point before treaties were broken, all land is sacred, and oil spills can easily travel 70 miles to contaminate drinking water. Why argue for the people and practices that are killing the planet? Without renewable energy soon, and maybe even with it, our race is doomed. Standing Rock was about more than a pipeline and water. It is about hundreds of years of native oppression, conquering, and obliteration. Not to mention dramatically higher sexual assault rates against native women and unchecked police/private security brutality. Don't side with the bastards.

15 years ago I had the privilege to go to Standing Rock, to work beside the Mandan tribe, to see the beauty of their people, to come to understand their struggles and give whatever I could.
Plant a thought, harvest an act, plant an act, harvest a habit, plant a habit, harvest a character, plant a character, harvest a destiny.
Standing Rock is home to the Hunkpapa Lakota, Sitting Bull's band. He is buried at Ft. Yates in the southern part of the reservation. The Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nations, also known as the Three Affiliated Tribes, is located on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in central North Dakota.
I will always remember who stood with Standing Rock and who did not. Dee Snyder even gained some respect from me during this. Side note: Tim Reynolds is a beast on guitar!

Aaron, thanks so much for posting this awesomely high quality recording of the benefit concert. I took my six year old daughter to the show; she was pumped but understandably fell asleep. I'm so excited to be able to share the show (again) with her. Too bad for Trump's recent executive actions :(. Ideally the Water Protectors continue their opposition and the various federal agencies complete their due diligence before any pipeline is built.

How does Dave sing and play Satellite at the same time! That seems so difficult, he is amazing
it's really not too difficult once you practice it a bit.. give it a try...
it's a basic riff and singing while playing it isn't as hard as it seems
I used to wonder the same about a lot of songs. Once you do it repetitively and practice, it becomes second nature, and you no longer think about it.
+Rod Ferguson (Rawd) also learning time signatures help and playing along with the actual song
it's really hard,most of his songs are difficult to play correctly... especially with small hands.

I agree. I feel that way on quiet a few occasions. I like Tim, I've actually seen him solo with his 3 piece that he tours with (very different music) but a lot of times on these LIVE sets I just feel like "OK Tim, you can play 1 million miles an hour we get it, but you've lost the song" Sometimes I miss the Pre-Tim DMB days..

I've heard that the pipeline doesn't even run through the land that the natives own. It's actually a few miles from there but it would run through sacred land. But they are not the owners of that land anymore, so the new owners (U.S. Government) can do anything they want with the land to be honest. It might not be the best thing but I mean me and you own property just like anyone else and we can do whatever we want with it (within reason). I think the pipeline is a reasonable decision. There's a lot of damage being done with protesters leaving all their litter everywhere and burning things down on the actual grounds.
Harrison Rhinehart you should understand that no human owns this land and will never own any land, the earth is our mother, we are only renting it and should respect it. When you die, how will your land,( that you purchased to do anything you want with it) make you fulfilled. What will you leave behind? Your fingerprints are not necessary on this earth unless they are pure to our mother.
