MISS LORI,,, I AM SO NEW--- TO GARDENING---- AND CANNING! YOU & Mr Brown MAKE----- MY LIFE DECISION---- SO EASY--- TO MAKE--- in my---- iwn---- personal timing!!! Thank You--- for --- choosing to put yourself " out there" for those of us,,,, that absolutely have ZERO life experience--- with " canning " ( never taught to us from.our parents / grandparent!) I am so thankful 🙏 ❤️💯🙏 for you!
I have just one thing to say...I wish I was a Little Fairie, I would set up housekeeping in Lori’s Pantry, in a Tiny Cubby, and I would never leave!!! 🦋❤️
Mrs. Lori, I have become addicted to you and MR. BROWN. I have learned so much from you. If you DON'T mind I would like for you to show how to can turnips with the roots. A FRIEND is giving them to me from his garden. I need to can them. You two are such a lovely couple you seem to be so in love and you DON'T mind talking about GOD AND HOW HE BLESSES YOU. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH AS YOU ARE A BLESSING TO OTHERS.
Hi Lori, my wife's grandmother called the butternut squash "bells". She would bake them till they were soft. Then she would make them into custard filling for "bell pie". The pie tasted like traditional pumpkin pie but sweeter and lighter. Really good!! Try it sometime.♥️👍
OMGOSH!!! Your soup is amazing !!! Just made it ! I doubled the batch! I added an extra Granny Smith apples (5 total) extra butternut squash and some extra Apple Cider. I like that sweet! It is so amazing ! I was able to get 16 pint jars for the winter. Half of the pints I grated some fresh nutmeg on top before they went into the canner! I so love your recipes! I'm with everyone else, waiting on your Cookbook! And I typically am not a cook book girl. I throw in this and that and little of that but I enjoy your recipes ❤❤❤❤❤
Dear Ms. Lori - I have never seen such a marriage of great flavors in a butternut squash soup - especially the addition of Granny Smith apples and leeks, and what a beautiful color! Such a delight to watch and can't wait to make this. Thanks so much for sharing : )
Hey Mr Brown, made your soup today, and it was delicious! Thank you! My sister planned to can most of it but people kept just walking in the door and, well, one bowl after another and we were only able to can 3 pints. Better than none, and it was loved by all!
Y’all are our kind of people We love watching your channel. I am a farmer in eastern Colorado and my better half is originally from southeast Missouri. We are pretty self sufficient I do most of the canning and she is the cook. We come in at night and turn RUclips on on the tv and see if y’all have put on a new video. Of all the channels you are our favorite. Keep doing what you are doing. God bless.
I watched this video this afternoon and made it for dinner. Whoo wee! Lots of prep time chopping and peeling but it was SO WORTH IT! My husband and I both had 2 bowls of it! Thank you for sharing your recipes, Lori. Yum!
I've made Squash Soup, Carrots and Pumpkins. Didn't think to Can it. My daughters saved the Seeds, Roasted them and add to the Soup. Adding your Recipe to my Fall/Winter Stock. Now I need to make that CiderCream Topping. Love learning from you.
This I will make in the next day or two. I will use onion instead of leeks though. I don't have access to that. I have never had squash soup, but grew quite a few butternut. Canned a dozen pints cubed from just one big one. Thanks for showing us this Miss Lori. Update: making it now and almost ready to blend and get it in the canner. Thanks again. Love your channel. I watch nearly all of your videos.
Thank you, Lori, for sharing your wealth of knowledge! I love your videos, and trust your advice. I can't wait to try your recipe for butternut squash soup! I will roast my squash first, though. Cut them in half, unpeeled and unseeded, roast until tender; the peel comes off soooo easily, as so the seeds! Again, thanks so much for sharing! I am learning so much from you!
Okay, okay what happened I missed yesterday!!!! But I'm here today, learning, learning, learning. Love butternut squash , Love leeks too: baked, soup, added to stew.... Thank you..
I love the addition of the apples...and the pears...and the cider cream, oh my! It looks delicious, and I will be adding this one to my canning recipes!
Oh! Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe and video! I can't wait to make this delicious soup! By the way, you have the sweetest voice. I enjoyed your video so much! Thank you again!!
Ms Lori, I love squash soup but have never heard of putting cider or apples in it. Can't wait to try this recipe. I wanted to let you know that for New Years, I made your recipe for black eye peas and cabbage and must tell you it's one of the best things I've tasted in a while. Thanks for sharing your recipes and traditions with us.
I add ginger to mine, it adds another layer of warm flavor. I've not tried to can it yet, now I will thanks to your sharing! I've never heard of cider cream either. Im excited, what a treat! Thanks again for sharing & a good and happy New Year to you and yours.
Canned yesterday. Its time to clean out deep freeze so had a bunch of cubed squash and was waiting to get to the grocers to get the rest of my ingredients. Awesome and ty ty for the recipes!!!
Have ya al got a pumpkin soup recipe you'd wanna share. Had some fresh pumpkin given too me. Going to try this soup, I love all kinds of soups and homemade breads. Thanks for sharing your life with us all. Sure makes me homesick for AR. Miss the Ozarks. Blessing to you and Mr. Brown and your family
This sounds really delicious. There's nothing better than warming soup in Winter. Actually soup is a favourite for me at anytime of the year, especially for a quick meal when I'm really tired. Blessings to you Miss lori xo
It's easier to clean leeks by cutting them up first. Then put in a pot of cold water and swish them around good. Drain them. Then put them in clean water and swish them around again. Then drain. Then they are totally clean throughout.
I just made a batch of this from a different recipe (with sweet potato, apples, onion). I just love butternut squash soup, and prefer homemade over store bought. I'll be sure to try your recipe, too. Thank you for sharing.
I made this today. Used the crockpot to cook it while I was at work. It is FANTASTIC!!!!! I got 8 pints in the canner, and had a nice bowl for myself left over. Thank you for sharing this recipe! It is definitely a keeper! YUMMY! :)
Thank you Miss Lori for this recipe! I made it Friday and oh my!!! I changed a little bit ingredients, had no leeks used large green onions and no sage. It's on my list! Mr. John suggested a bit a brandy to the recipe and bought us a bottle of Apple brandy to add! Wow soooo good! Thanks for showing the way of life that is close to God! First time making this soup and now I canned some! Anytime I want a recipe I know to come here first! God Bless you and Mr. Brown!
It feels like I am sitting in your kitchen with you on all of your videos. The recipe looks so delicious. I will be making this soup for sure. Thank you for sharing your time and talent with us. Have a blessed weekend.
Hi Lori, I made the raisin pie.last night because my husband loves raisins. It was a great.hit!!! I couldn't figure out why it wasn't thicking up, jad to rewatch the video. You forgot the flour in the recipe box. Lol!!! It smelled sooo good. Reminded me of rice pudding. I added the cinnamon and nutmeg. Alittle too sweet for me, but still very good. Thumbs up😁😁
I love your channel! I may have mentioned that before. 😉 I find that if you microwave your butternut squash for 30 seconds or so, it softens the skin a bit making it much easier to peel.
Hi Ms. Lori, I have that very same peeler that you are using to peel your squash. I got mine over in St. Louis, Missouri 20 plus years ago and it is still sharp and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I am Rose Miller, from Alton, Illinois. I watch your videos all of the time, and I LOVE YOU and Mr. Brown so much. GOD BLESS BOTH OF YOU
You dont know how thrilled I am to see a recipe that has been pureed prior to pressure canning. Many recipe books say the ingredients must be canned in a cubed state. Then ingredients can pureed before serving. Thanks
Yes, your right, I've never had any problems, it's not any different then say, apple butter, so I think they are wrong to a certain extent God Bless, xoxoxo
Sinndy, I believe that if she was just canning squash, it would need to be canned in its cubed state to be safe due to the density issue. However, in this recipe she is adding other ingredients, including liquids. Hopefully that thins the soup out enough so that, even when pureed, it will not be too dense to safely home can. I think it also helps that she canned this pureed soup in half-pint jars, which will hopefully make it more likely that the heat of the canning process will be able to reach all the way through to the food in the middle of the jars.
My recipe is similar but has some ginger and no carrots. I also use 1 small acorn squash with the butternut. That creme looks amazing. I can almost smell the soup...come on fall. 👏🏻💕👏🏻
I can just imagine how wonderful that tastes. I will for sure be doing this recipe for meals and for canning. I have never had the cider cream, but will be doing that too. Thank you, Miss Lori for this great video. xoxo
I didn’t know that you could make up the butternut squash soup, purée it, and then can it. I am new to all of this and I just made up 7 quarts of butternut squash fixings by putting in the butternut squash the carrots the onions and the apple adding the chicken stock and then canning it for 90 minutes. I am so excited about the fact that I can now actually make the soup and then pressure can it. Thank you so much for sharing this nugget of gold. Definitely am going to use your recipe.
I use a grapefruit spoon to clean out the seeds. Works fast and gets the strings out easy. I make squash soup all the time and love the fact I now have a new recipe to try and can. Thank you so much. Nothing is better than home cooked food.

Enjoyed the video. I discovered a used canning jar lid works really well in removing seeds from squash.
Good idea! Xoxoxo

Absolutely delicious! Thank you for this video and recipe.
Love it! Hallelujah to our LORD!!!!!
It's easier to clean leeks by cutting them up first. Then put in a pot of cold water and swish them around good. Drain them. Then put them in clean water and swish them around again. Then drain. Then they are totally clean throughout.
I thought cutting them up first then rinse and drain would be good to get the grit out.
