I still couldn't do it like this but found that flipping the seat upside down there were two clips either side of the leg separator that needed pulling away from the seat and the tray came right off

Omg!! Please stop pulling up! I just found out you’re supposed to PUSH DOWN on the edge of the tray and it comes off so easily!!!! Please please read this I felt so dumb after someone showed me how to do it properly!

Where do you push down? The front edge? Side? Corner? I’m trying but it’s about to break if I do that

Don't do this. I tried it and while the tray popped off on one side, it broke the little piece that slides into the back part of the chair.
