    Tsunami is actually a huge brand here in Singapore and its a 'good' and recommended bike for beginners.As for OTA,its also big and mostly a budget crankset for beginners too,i actually used to own one and from my experince,it isnt that bad,its reasonably stift and smoother then some cranksets that are well known,but its really heavy...climbing on the OTA crankset is a nightmare.

    I've been doing some reading into cage bearing hubs and found it's common for bikepackers to drill the center of their hubs and tap in a "zerk fitting" so you grease from the center and force out dirt and old grease from the sides. Gonna keep an eye out for old wheels to try this out on a winter commute.

    • @rollinrat4850
      @rollinrat4850 5 лет назад +2

      Bryce Dueck Locate some WTB or SunTour XC pro GREASEGUARD hubs. They have grease ports inside each of the flanges. They wont be cheap as theyre not made anymore and they were high end in 90s. Also you may have an even harder time finding the cassettes for the Sun Tours. WTBs are the way to go. Theyre either freewheel or use a shimano style cassette I have a WTB rear and a Sun Tour front. Id like to see pics of do it yourself zerked hubs!

    • @rollinrat4850
      @rollinrat4850 5 лет назад +1

      Older Campy hubs had a grease port covered by a snap ring in the middle of the hub.

    Hey Zach!! I need some advice. I got a super nice Specialized Tarmac on Craigslist crazy cheap and I've been riding it for several months. The frame fits me really well and I was thinking about using the frameset for a fixed gear conversion utilizing a eccentric hub. I've had fixed gears in the past, but just recently got back into riding. Do you think it's worth the money to convert it?

    spoke length has little to no effect on "stiffness" or "liveliness". deeper rims are stronger than shallower rims due to how they distribute the crumpling force from the ground, and this makes the wheel durable and transmits bumps better. high flange rear hubs have higher torque stiffness than low flange because they give a longer lever arm on which the spokes act.

    A set of wheels such as hand-built Mavic open pros made with a high spoke count can be just as stiff as anything out there. The shape of the rim doesn't necessarily dictate the stiffness of the wheel. Also, if you want aero and lightweight, buy a good set of carbons. My 60mm carbons weigh 1200 grams for the wheelset and only cost $500 have done 6 seasons now and are still straight as a dye.

    And without any modifications of your own. Or you might try something in the $15.00 to $30.00 range from a yard sale or thrift shop.

    I'm on a cheap hi ten steel frame, made here in the UK, it's on the heavy side but it's good quality and has done what I need whilst saving up, now I have a surly steamroller on the way, before that I was on a 40 year old women's road bike that I converted to single speed, I ordered a small steamroller, as the frame I'm on is too big for me, I have to stand on my tip toes when standing over the frame, it's 56cm, ordered the 49cm steamroller, as I like smaller bikes

    Yes to Walmart. My first cheapo fixed gear lasted two weeks.

    I have had the same idea for a WalMart bike. This time of year, I’m knocking out ~150 miles/week. Could a sub $200 bike hang with me for 7 days? I’m tall; 204 pounds. I’m not slow (for a middle-aged Jewish lawyer, anyway),
    I may have to try that.

    walmart bike century sounds awsome, the thing about aliexpress parts is that you can buy them in countries that dont have other options ( i live in lebanon no fixed gear enything and the only place online that sends its stuff to lebanon is aliexpress)

    I’ve got a Walmart bike that I was gifted to originally just be a beater, but have since done 2 centuries on. I’ve even been hit by a car while riding it and the thing still trucks!
