Just picked up a GTB with Omniums and I’m excited to make it my dream Tarck bike. Big Mash SF inspiration since they’re local to me and have cool new bits that’ll fit the build.
Dudes, I have a legendary part apparently? Last year, I bought a frameset from a cousin for $50 used and couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was... Until now that is. My Leader frame, pre-crap Seatpost clamp gen, is pretty spotless. I think the previous owner before my cousin picked it up painted over with a matte black finish (pretty well I might add) to go with this odd carbon fork. Anyway, I feel freakin' cool as hell right now, ngl.
thanks to this video, I learned the bike frame I recently bought for a steal is an EAI Bareknuckle! I was shocked, I refurbished and repainted it and it rides beautifully!
Stumbled upon this episode again. We really don’t know if omniums have been discontinued... because my local bike spot just restocked 50 units of these in black and 25-30 for the silver ones. Quite a lot in my opinion. ✌🏻
Thank you Zach for your video's. I have a mid 70's Raleigh Super Course i bought at a thrift shop for $12. Its complete and in pretty good shape overall. I've thought about turning it into a single speed. I'm to old and beat up to do a fixie anymore.
I've got the 2008 Cannondale Capo. It fell into their "urban" line up. It retains a fairly steep seat angle and tall bottom bracket but a traditional road bike head tube angle. American made, clean and simple uncluttered paint scheme(unlike many Cannondales of the era). Such a cool fun bike.
I still have my first bike, a early 80s conversion Centurion sitting on a pair of pink b43s. The front needs truing bad but im lazy to bring it in to a bike shop at the moment. but those wheels look great today and still get a lot of compliments and i've put mine thru hell and they're still serving me well.
Oh I have a rare pair of 650c velocity b43s in purple and they are amazing. sucks that I don't ride a 47cm or lower frame also FSA vigorelli is something I wish they still made and Unknown bikes type 2
For some reason all the fixed bikes I've owned have been classic American frames. Wasn't looking for them but they just ended up coming to me for really cheap
Yes they are, a matter of fact I have one and I gotta love it. 4130 tripple butted Chromoly Steel is reasonably light and durable with decent stiffness
I still don't get this dudes hate for the Omnium esp the bottom bracket. I put nearly 4600 miles into mine on a state undefeated mk2 and didn't once have creaking issues but I never tried another frame so those issues frame clearance quirks are probably valid with other frames. I miss that build, whoever was in charge of putting ritchey components and an Omnium on that frame for under 1500 was a mad genius, scholar and gentleperson. That ride was the stiffest, snappiest crank and I was extremely happy. I wasn't hitting crits but I would push hard at times. Gonna miss these 😢
Omnium used the gxp type bb though, wear out very quickly on the non drive side bearing. I think miche make a nice looking track cranks et, called the aero or something like that
2. GT frameset is an all time classic that I think all of us has owned at some point or another starting in the late 90’s with the track bike boom. Great messenger frame. 1. The Cannondale is just a masterpiece!! The beauty of steel frame with the attributes and handling of aluminum. Another frame us old schoolers have been building up for decades now. Every line in the geometry is pure perfection! It is the holy grail of American track frames!!!!!! So yeah super good call putting them at their respective places. I kinda thought these two would make the list if you put framesets on and not just components!!!!
Hey Zach how about explaining the difference between bottom brackets? Like this kind of bottom bracket one would use for omniums, I don't get how they are installed 😅
What about the Traitor Ringleader specifically the PBR edition. Very few made and a solid steel frame. Definitely the nicest steel frame ive ever riden. (I own one and love it) also all their components were amazing as well. I miss traitor cycles
i got a grey cinelli mash with omnium cranks, aerospoke FW and thompson stem and seatpost. its the insta bike of 2010 and god damn i never change a thing on this time capsule. i did put way to much money into this bike in a time when i got no money and as the last trend i run after in my youth i shall keep it to tell my kids one day that you cant buy into beeing cool lol
Fuck.... A lot those frames and parts were taken for granted. Wish I pulled the trigger on the GTB from the 90's I saw on sale on Craigslist for $200. I still have my bareknuckle and my toshi double starps. Good times.
I've never ridden either, but Cannondale has a reputation for having an awesome ride quality . While the Ayrton Silverstone looks like a nice frameset, looking like a Cannondale Track and riding like a Cannondale Track are completely different things. Solid choice if you just want something that's inspired by the legendary frameset.
@@ZachGallardo thanks. The frame is decently spec'd for the price with 6061 triple butted aluminium the kendo orbit is only 6061 double butted but it's more expensive in my country atleast
@BeboSaab andels are stock cranksets you get for 200 dollar cheap fixed definitely not the same as omniums ...and they don't evencome with a bottom bracket
Do you guys know where i can buy fixie good parts from US that can shipped to Malaysia. Because here in Malaysia its so hard to find a good part for fixie.
I disagree with Toshi straps being the pinnacle of toe straps. I would consider Kashimax Five Gold toe straps to be the best I have ever used. And they look better. I also disagree with “SRAM Omniums look pretty dang cool” They very ugly cranks Paul Royal Flush track cranks are legendary imo and discontinued as well as kashimax top tube protector
Is it just srams focus on wireless groupsets and MTB that killed omnium or something like returns on them? Honestly I don't understand the end of them as 1/3 fixed gears I see are omnium fitted, makes my s300s look like Amazon specials
The way I see it is a track bike is so easy to get to the UCI weight minimum that there is little need to invest in lighter designs. Most of us are riding fixed bikes that would be laughed out of any velodrome anyway. When's the last time you glued one tubular tire to ride a fixed gear on the road? It makes no sense for a manufacturer to mass produce a bike for the road that weighs 12 lbs which is attainable. No good for the velodrome, to expensive to ride on the road!
Fair comment im digging my s300s atm and done me well with no issues (the gxp bb is a bonus over the 100s aswell). Theyre a nightnare to source in UK so I just went through Germany and got them for 80 euros haha but yeah on the fixed gears atm, im riding a 4130 tracklocross frame with 700mm bars so my hype machine would be laughed at by the guy on the 6k BMC but then again mine actually has usability outside haha
BCD, or bolt circle diameter refers to cranks and chainrings. So if you want to go from 130 to 144, you would need a new crank and chainring. Of course, the new crankset must be compatible with the bottom bracket (and the bottom bracket must be compatible with the frame), but otherwise it should be straightforward. Maybe get a second opinion from another shop.
I looked at that too. What if they stopped making them though? Probably use some weird standards and pricey too. Still got to be about the best of the best and last a long time.
SICK!!!! i was waiting for you to say about gt gtb and bb17 transfer. why didnt you say about gt pulse? is it still in production? i have mine bb17 for 3 years, love it! thou its quite heavy awesome content man! if you ever visit shanghai - hit me up! ill take to a proper night ride with our local fixie gang ROSH (ride on shanghai) cheers
All the richer kids in my town who rode fixies had Aerospokes. I didn't even ride to school back then, and I wanted a pair. I had a mountain bike, it wouldn't have even look right.
Everything functions properly ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Nothing was damaged in the box aside from a decal on the fork. The decal was missing a piece of a corner but I ended up peeling them off anyways. Assembly is easy BUT make sure you tune up the derailleurs. Both the front and rear need adjusting. I'd advise going to a bike shop but I opted out and put in 10+ hours with the help of RUclips. Ended up fraying a shifter cable but all in all I learned from the experience. The Brakes work well but the front caliper needs adjusting or at least mine did because the rotor was rubbing against the pads. Make sure you swap out the seat, grips, and pedals. For the short run you'll be fine though. I've read that this bike isn't built yet for hard trails but I just need it for the city. PA has some of the worst roads and being in a mountain this was a great choice. Worth the investment!
Omniums have been discontinued, and the raging Omnium vs. Sugino 75 debate has come to an end. What fixed gear parts from back in the day do you miss?
I miss the omniums and the breakbrake 17 TRANSFER LOW PRO FRAME
also follow my ig @godnnotfamous
I wanted to get the bb17 transfer so bad :(
Can’t forget the gt gutterball
Good morning Zach
No more Omni’s huh?
Literally waiting for an old made in the USA cannondale track frame to arrive in the mail sometime this week... this video made me happy
One of my dream frames, good for you mate!!!
currently looking for a Capo 😵
Good on you Sir.
Enjoy that ride man.
👍
The KHS Aero Track aluminum will always top my list.
Yes, yes, yes!!!!

i always have my eye out for Campagnolo Record Pista cranks, Rolf Prima track wheels, AND THE MOST UNICORN OF ALL CINELLI LASER FRAME!!!!
if i can give you an advice DON T buy cinelli laser it is made with shit and the tubing is basically water pipes

GIVE ME OMNIUMS OR GIVE ME DEATH!
This was all so spot on... I still get a little weak in the knees over those buttery, blue C dale frames..
Vendetta!🤘🤘🤘 Great vid Zach
I can’t read I thought this was about discounted parts lmfao
Lmfaooo this has me in tears
Love your content Zach, you inspired me to start my own youtube channel.
Thank you for motivation.
Omniums were so dope. I hope they come back eventually.
Great video. It took me back to my first fixed from 2007.
Well this helped me choose which bike to ride today. Fixie with the Omnium crank!

Leaders 725s we're never my thing. I fell in love with the Renovatio and still wonder why it didn't blow up. That frame had lines for days.

I wonder how many people who think they are flexing their cranks, are just flexing the frame at the bottom bracket shell..?
Exactly!
One more vote for PAUL ROYAL FLUSH CRANKSET.
Adding: CAMPAGNOLO SHAMAL TRACK Wheels!!
I have a titanium Lasky track bike made in to a Single speed pretty amazing with Omnium crank and a Brooks saddle

Love seeing all the adangerpdx pictures. That woman has an amazing collection.
her collection makes me sick with jealousy
I’m mad you didn’t include the trek t1 😤
Crazy how all these parts are now wanted as soon as their gone
Well, the longer they're gone the rarer they'll be. For some people that matters. Also: The grass is always greener on the other side.
