So you had the '86 ST front wheel drive round body (in AUS)? I remember that model and they had a limited edition "white lightning". Had a poster of it from a magazine as a young bloke and stared at it endlessly. As for the Black Supra...dude 👌 Back in the 90's there was one parked with a for-sale sign on it. Rang them and they were just up the road. They were asking 4 grand. I checked it out and knew exactly why it wouldn't run and had broken down. It was an easy $100 fix so said I'd be back the next day with cash. Alas, they got a mechanic to check it out before I could buy it so no dice 😞 I feel your pain man.
I've had as well as the two I mentioned above, the second car I owned being an RA-60 and then an RA-65 years later (so basically now have them back) I didn't mind the RA-23 but never drove one unfortunately. Both the RA-60 and 65 are very underrated. The 21RC 2.0L was a grunty naturally aspirated solid engine. I believe they were from over-stock from the Hilux until the next gen where the 22RE came in. The best part of these gen's (besides the shape) was definitely the gearbox that has long legs with the stock diff ratio = grunt in all gears. I used to blow a lot of Torana's, Commodores and Ford 6's away esp. off the line due to that split-case supra box (and zoom past them from 3rd gear on if they caught me LOL). They handled great from factory for what they were esp. at the time. Lowered Pedders suspension, coil overs, extractors/2.5" exhaust and wheel/tyre upgrades makes them handle and go with no more mods than that. Not the fastest in todays standards but heaps of fun and safe to drive. I saw a beautiful gold RA-65 on Gumtree going for about 14 grand a few moths back. I paid $12,888 2nd hand for my RA-60 back in '88!...yep 3 years old and pristine. These cars are vintage cars now. I would possibly consider selling my RA-65 to raise enough funds to get my turbo'd RA-60 restored and re-engineered though.
My first car was 1984 Celica in the same colour. I loved owning it and my Dad had a cammed and high compression motor built for me. Still sad I sold it.
@@deliveredconcepts My Dad had a Sandman and the bank screwed me royally over a missed payment on my 1st Celica and was going to re-possess so I pulled it apart and we put that gearbox behind his 308 before they sent to repo's 😛 She handled the power easily and drove better than the original M21 ever did. She had long legs for a short stroke V8.
beautiful car brother question the beams to ae86 engine brackets work with this?? My boy want to do the same swap here in the USA but there's not alot of info on it..
When I swapped to a 3T-GTE I used a Hilux mount on one side and a modified Nissan Pajero mount on the other side. Not sure about the 3S range. Might help?
How tf did he not use spacer like its the one thing i dont wanna do for my suspension and still fit the beams otherwise im going 1uzfe but i love the high rpm of the beams
Hey man you really have a great build and it really inspired me. I have the same car and the same engine but haven’t been built one piece. I am still in the phase of overthinking of stuff that might go wrong with the build. I have a bit of questions if you don’t mind sharing. I have ask everywhere locally but havent got a firm answer to make the build perfect as the build is not that practical in my country. I previously used my 3SGE engine in a 1983 toyota Corona. 1) Do you use stock axle for the build or do you use the same axle as been used in the Altezza? I have experience using stock pinion gear and also ae 86 pinion gear and both of them breaks 2) Whats was the power steering you used? 3) When exchanging the rear parts with Supra rear, do you have to modify brackets? From what I know the CS is using independent axle and the ra65 is using a solid axle thus the placement of the rear parts should be a bit different. 4) Do you have to modify the firewalls on the gearbox? On my Corona I modified the firewall a bit but some say that you can extend the gearbox position and install it to the RA65 w/o modifying the firewall. I hope Im not asking much, thanks man
Awesome build!! I have an '83 and a '85. Unfortunately both are unregistered and in need of some resto. The '83 has a 3TGT-EU on straight gas,no computer (180BHP) and the '85 has the original 2.4 injected. I'm desperate for interior plastic trimmings and a dash as they're all trashed from being out in the sun. I'd also like to know about the availability of the fiberglass hatch :)
So glad this was recommended to me. That is my dream car, the 85 liftback... I have a 77 Liftback GT currently.
77 liftback and st185 are my favorite, and this one just become my favorite celica too
My first car was the next gen of this car but I had a Japanese girlfriend who had a black Supra of this era... and I wish I had both of them today 🙂.

I had an 86 Celica withe a chrysler 340hp and muncie 4sp trans. Car looked stock everywhere until you heard it.
I’m doing the same build, dropping it soon.
Please share mate!
Saw this in brissy, so cool 👌🏾👌🏾
Amazing build. Very clean.
Dude i love your build.. it’s simple but amazingly cool . Specially with that engine swap
I want one of these engines in my 1980 Celica sunchaser so bad. My 20r has header, distributor, and a weber. It only weighs 2100lbs.
Wicked Car, Welldone Sir.
Very nice. I have an ra23 but I think the ra65 is underrated. If I had lots of money, I'd for sure get a second Celica, being the ra65

First comment, and one of my favourite builds overall!
Honestly ive never seen a auto focus that is as sick as this one ever
@@krispyk5854 Really would love to see Larry Chen do a Hoonigan Auto Focus on this if he's ever back in Australia
I just beams swapped mine as well was wondering what you did with the front sway bar?
I drove one. Not real fast but it is a great start
They like to breathe. My first mods were extractors and a 2.5" exhaust and addressed the air-intake. Changed the car completely.

Yep, it's a thing. Why do you reckon I've owned 4 of these poor-man's Supra beauties? ;) Did the '84 have the split-cased aluminium 5 speed boxes?
@@vapinmccloud412 yeah it did.

Super clean ride. Where was the f/glass hatch from??
From @steeko hoopdy "Jspec composites in Albury make them"

@@vapinmccloud412 The full fibreglass hatch. Doesn't come the glass though.

I own a 1984 celica im thinking about Barra swapping mine
I believe it's an inline 6 cyl and probably heavy. Lots of people are opting for LS chevy V8's if that helps?
Hey man, im also in sa, just got my ra65 as first project car. Really hope get in touch for some engine swap idea. Thanks
You could do what everyone's doing atm with small nuggets and go for an LS conversion. There's a few on YT.

Are you using the W58 transmission?
Aha! That's the Aluminium split-case from the Supra yeah?
anyone know the owner's new IG handle? Link doesn't work. I need a fiberglass hatch myself.
What suspension are you running?
Any links you can provide ?
Fucking sick bro I just got a xt 2.0 82 hatch. For 100 bucks
Do you got Instagram account? I have few questions about the engine swap
