6:41 If you get that homerun in the bottom of the 8th, you can completely skip the bottom of the 9th inning. Skip that commercial break and those 3 outs, and the minimum time is 40 minutes, 43.89 seconds.

Found GamerHD Heh, if there is a crowd riot, or an invasion of the pitch or horrendous weather conditions, the ref can stop the game as soon as it's judged to be dangerous for the players/fans Cool cool point
So technically a soccer game could last pretty much not at all because you can het a red card as soon as the game starts because it has been done before so a soccer game can be less than a minute
it can be even faster: if the field is unplayable, say for excessive rain or any other reason the game is unplayable or dangerous to play, the referee can suspend the game, and in certain cases even end it
This is wrong, although even most football fans believe it (by which I mean football, the real football, the one you play with your feet). If you get five red cards (or otherwise have five players less than eleven, e. g. because of injury) your captain is allowed to ask the ref to end the game which the ref must do in that case. But the referee will never automatically end the game himself when not being asked by the captain. And there is also the rule that even with five red cards you are NOT allowed to ask the ref to end the game if you are winning or the game's tied. Theoretically you could lead 1-0 with only two players on the pitch after nine red cards, and the ref still wouldn't be allowed to end the game even if he's asked by the captain. Obviously, you'd never be in the lead in such a situation (but who knows, imagine FC Barcelona against a team of seven-year old girls) and obviously the team could simply walk off (losing by forfait, just like you can literally everytime), but still that's the rule.
The two minute warning breaks wouldn't happen if play doesn't stop! So those two two minute commercial breaks are eliminated by continuous 15 minute plays! P

Couldn’t a baseball game be even shorter if there’s something that forces the game to stop after the 5th inning considering that’s an official game at that point
Dunno about the other sports, but in socer the referee may end a game sooner than 90 minutes of game time (due to weather eventy for example) - and if the missing time isn't too substantial, the remaining, unplayed portion may never be played - therefore a game may be less than 90 minutes long...
In football, there’s no theoretical limit on plays on a drive. Let a team get the ball at least five yards away from either goal and rush three times (or screen pass or whatever) for a combined five-yard loss. On fourth and 15, the defense commits holding. Boom, automatic first with no change in field position and at least two minutes removed from the game clock. On the next first down, the offense snaps the ball as quickly as they can to catch the defense off guard, minimizing unclocked time. Let the cycle continue for an entire half. Let the other team do that for the entire second half, except they lose too many yards on their final set of downs and take a safety right as time expires.
For soccer, stoppage time is added for both goals & substutions. Most league matches last less than two hours, knock out cup play could add two 15 minute periods of extra time (plus 1 minute for changeover plus another 10 to 15 minutes for penalties.
Malice at the Palace the game ended in a brawl if I remember correctly with time on the clock being 45.9 Seconds in the 4th Quarter. But that doesn't count either. Fan interference is a thing. And that could have happened in the Seahawk/Jags game too.
In a one-day cricket match , all 10 batsmen in an innings are dismissed with 10 deliveries, and no runs are scored. 30 seconds to bowl each delivery, and 1 minute for each dismissed batsman to leave the field and the next batsman coming to take his place, so 15 minutes for the whole inning. There is then a 10 minute changeover between innings. The next innings starts, and the batting team score the 1 run they need to win off the first delivery, so another 30 seconds. Total time 15 minutes +10 minutes + 30 seconds = 25 minutes and 30 seconds.
I want to add something to the soccer scenario. You know that the game is played 11v11. After a very hard foul, any act of unnecessary violence (e.g fist fights), spitting or insulting your opponent and many other cases you get a red card and must leave the field, so it's now 11v10. The referee can/will stop the game if one team comes below the player count of 7. The one team gets disqualified and the other team wins automatically with 3:0. So imagine 5 players of one team doing one of the things, that trigger a red card, the game can end within the first seconds. I'm not sure, but it is possible that you can get red cards before the match even started, e.g in the player tunnel. That would set the minimum time needed for a soccer game to 0 seconds.
wait, those breaks between sets etc. can be ended early by the players if they agree. So technically, you can take that out of the equation and just factor the time for switching sides.
In the NHL games I've been to there are assigned TV time outs The game just stops - and the ice gets swept Not sure you added that in Bro Interesting ...

FivePoints Vids Ice clean up is usually per 5-7 mins of play. The clean up is usually 30-60 seconds. The normal time for my trips to games, its 2 hours or a little under depending on score, clean up, time outs and injury. It adds up quick for a fast game.
There is no mandatory stoppage that literally stops play(season ticket holder speaking). At roughly 13 minutes remaining, 10 minutes remaining, and 2 other times, they do an ice scrape during a stoppage. The longest time they have played without a stoppage in NHL history was over 10 minutes.
Theoretically a soccer game can end much earlier. If more than four players of a team get sent off the game will end and it will be counted as a 3:0 win for the other team. Therefore theoretically a soccer game could last less than a minute
I know some people, especially the ones that love shootouts in football (*coughColinCowherdcough*), would hate it, but seeing a 27 minute drive would be awesome.
That's kind of cheating, and actually a rain delayed game isn't automatically called once it starts to rain. They put out the tarp and wait around for a while befor officially calling off the game for good.
You fucking, NERD!!! Keep up the hilarious work. I know that no matter how tedious the topic may sound, your train of thought will root out some interesting info.
Ohohoho Mr. FivePoints, you have forgotten that a rainout can cause a baseball game to end after a minimum of five innings and still count as a completed game.
For baseball a the minimum length of a game in order for it to count is 5 innings. If the home team is ahead 1-0, a game can be 4 1/2 innings long before instantly being called because of a torrential downpour. So I think that game can be far shorter...
Poker could probably be done in a minute if everyone goes all in. Chess can be done in like 8 moves. Not sure it's possible, but pool could be done in seconds if you pot all the balls on the break. Races are designed to end quickly, but there's no calculation there.
In golf I have a cheaters answer for you: match play. At any time your opponent can concede the match to you. Generally this happens when it’s mathematically impossible to win- down 3 with 2 holes left. But so far as I’m aware there’s no rule against conceding early if there were say an injury on first drive or my usual quadruple double triple bogey on the first hole. (That’s on good days. Goalie My friends on the bowling team and I always finish practice with a speed game. If the ball is returned consistently and the pinsetter does not breakdown, it takes about 8-12 minutes on average when we try to go fast.
Bowling is actually around 2 minutes. If you're bowling on a pair of two lanes and you throw 11 shots (strike 1-9 frames and open in the 10th) immediately after the sweep comes up you can probably get somewhere between 100 and 200 seconds. This also assumes you have several bowling balls to use.
The minimum price for a pair of hockey tickets is $1 using your promo code: FPG on SeatGeek!!! That's exactly what I got em for as well! Ha thanks again dude! Go CATS!
You forgot games called for weather. In baseball the game only has to reach the 5th inning to be eligible for completion. So the minimum time for a baseball game using your other assumptions drops to 25 minutes, 13.68 seconds. And however long the umps spend trying to figure it if the rain will stop.
You vastly underestimate the amount of time batters and pitchers need to reset in a game. Some pitchers take up to 15 seconds every pitch. They aren't an automatic pitching machine.
Baseball can hit a walkoff in the bottom of the 5th and as soon as the runner touches home, a downpour could occur, thus ending the game after 4.5 innings with no outs in the bottom of the 5th.
With baseball, you actually could go faster. One run scored in the first 5 innings, and the rest of the game gets rained out. Unless you count the time of the umps deciding it should be called off.
Not if known in advance that the forecast is for extended rain for a long period of time. Game could be over after 4 1/2 innings if the home team is ahead and the rain starts.
If you move that inside-the-park homer to a previous inning you can eliminate the 2 minute commercial break between the top of the ninth and the bottom of the ninth. Right?
One thing wrong about the amount of time for football games. You don't need to add the time for the 2-minute warning. You can keep the ball in motion through the entire two minutes, so there would be no 2-minute warning.
In football you can run a kickoff for 15. So assuming that a team downs the ball or scores a touchdown right as the clock hits 0 that is 15 minutes *4 or 60 minutes.plus two minutes per Commercial break do that twice in between 1-2 quarters and 3-4. Finally a 12 minute half time. This means a NFL game can be played in 1 hour and 16 minutes
The minimum time for soccer could be 45 minutes from the first whistle to the half time whistle if the referee determines it’s unsafe to play the second half, therefore the game is complete after the first half giving us 45 mins
@@parents65 I wasn't talking about the final score. I was talking about the time needed to complete the game. If one team forfeits, there is no need to play, and so 0 hours, 0 minutes, and 0 seconds are spent actually playing the game.
What if after 5 innings, the crew chief calls the game due to rain, an MLB game is official after 5 innings, so as long as one team has the lead, you can cut the time on half.
You actually don't need all 9 innings to be played. You only need to play 4 and 1/2. Since after 4.5 innings, a game can go final due to a weather delay without a replay
I was looking for this comment, because that was I thinking... Funny idea, but could a football game last forever? Because dont you need a dead ball for the game to end? So if a player just keeps on running around after the clock runs out, that game woud never end
ijustownyouall A football game can go on forever. A game can not end on a defensive penalty. So if the defense is penalized on every down that occurs with no time left on the clock, the game would never end. Of course, the refs would have to call it every single time, so this can be easily prevented.
Sir Quack So, if the kickoff happens then both teams decide get some exercise without leaving the field or stepping out of bounds (i.e. Just run around not touching each other) then the game would simply continue .... Heh
+Sir Quack The game wouldn't last forever, because eventually the ball carrier would die of old age. Maximum human life span: about 120 years, minus age of player. Minimum age of NFL player 19. So, 120 - 19 = 101 years.
Tests are 5 days, however the theoretical shortest test could’ve 31 balls plus two breaks between innings for a score of: Team batting first 0-all out, 0-all out Team second 1-all out.
Rob Alloway technically we can get even shorter. Since teams can declare their innings at anytime when they are ahead, the game could end in 4 balls with 3 breaks. Team 1 scores 1 run and then declares. Team 2 scores 2 off one hit and then declares. Team 1 then does the same and Team 2 scores 2 more runs for the win.
Actuallly in soccer a match could last for everything between 1 minute and 90 as long a team can get five red cards on outfield players or if their is a fight and the ref gives more than nine red cards on outfield players
For football having a lot of run plays and only pass plays that result in completions and neither that go out of bounds and with no penalties. And then not getting a first down until 3rd Down and then when you do get a first down just barely get the first down without getting a lot of extra yards on that play.
You should look at the fastest 6K XC time for golf for the most accuracy. You've just assumed El G could've run 3 back to back miles at world record pace (the world record was run on a flat surface with higher friction than grass), which he can't, however you do have one thing in your favour, that being there are substances which are banned in athletics that are not banned in golf. El G would've run faster for the mile if he were allowed to do more doping than he already did
Your description of the longest possible drive in the NFL is wrong because you failed to account for how long the play takes. Suppose you kick the ball off in the first quarter. The receiving player takes the ball and all the players hang around for 15 minutes without doing anything significant but the receiver controls the ball and play does not stop until the first quarter is over. Your contrasting analysis concludes that it doesn't matter, but it was unimaginative to not consider play length.
6:41 If you get that homerun in the bottom of the 8th, you can completely skip the bottom of the 9th inning. Skip that commercial break and those 3 outs, and the minimum time is 40 minutes, 43.89 seconds.
Sir Quack but they would still need another out in that inning, so add another 10 seconds and its 40 minutes, 53.89 seconds
Sir Quack dang I didn’t think of that
Then that could be any batter in any inning other than the 9th. If its the first batter in the bottom of the 1st he's probably really fresh and would run faster...lol.
How does nobody know that after 5 innings, the game can be called due to rain or other weather
Excellent!
For baseball why not let the home team score their run in the bottom of the 8th or any other inning so the bottom of the 9th doesn't exist
You could also have a game called on the account of rain in the top of the 5th with the home team winning.
TheAtkey actually has to be middle of the 5th if home team winning or after five if away team is ahead
+TheAtkey Yes, but how long are they required to wait before calling the game?

With baseball, you actually could go faster. One run scored in the first 5 innings, and the rest of the game gets rained out. Unless you count the time of the umps deciding it should be called off.
Why didn’t you take weather shorten games into account? For baseball it would really speed things along.
rain delay to cancellation would be longer than the game without weather
BoomBoomPowe Earthquake could end a game pretty fast lol
right lol
If the city where the game is being played gets nuked, then game over. So, less than a second.
Not if known in advance that the forecast is for extended rain for a long period of time. Game could be over after 4 1/2 innings if the home team is ahead and the rain starts.
i know nothing of golf and yet it was still painful watching that guy
If you move that inside-the-park homer to a previous inning you can eliminate the 2 minute commercial break between the top of the ninth and the bottom of the ninth. Right?
One thing wrong about the amount of time for football games. You don't need to add the time for the 2-minute warning. You can keep the ball in motion through the entire two minutes, so there would be no 2-minute warning.
And here I thought the shortest a baseball game could be was 9001 hours...
FivePoints should team up with MatPat and name his channel Sports Theory
For Football if a play ran for 15 minutes, then you wouldn't have the 2 minute warning break.
By the way... Dee Gordon no longer has the fasted inside the park dinger anymore... Look up Byron Buxton.. you're welcome
The minimum time for soccer could be 45 minutes from the first whistle to the half time whistle if the referee determines it’s unsafe to play the second half, therefore the game is complete after the first half giving us 45 mins
The answer for all games is ZERO. IF ONE TEAM FORFEITS, THEY DON'T NEED TO PLAY
That is not true. There are standard scores for the records for forfeits. For example, the "forfeit" score for a baseball game is 9-0.
Charles Barkley trying to play golf is really funny.
If there is lightning or severe weather a soccer game can only last 75 minutes and the remaining 15 minutes will not be played
Baseball could be even shorter. The game becomes official after the 5th inning
Kinda ironic how baseball is the shortest despite haters saying it’s long and boring
Actually that’s not ironic at all lol
This is just insane. So, I thank you, sir!
Thanks!!!
You actually don't need all 9 innings to be played. You only need to play 4 and 1/2. Since after 4.5 innings, a game can go final due to a weather delay without a replay
1 second if a team forfeits in time
For football, you don't have to run down the clock with an actual drive. You could just take the kickoff and run around for 15 minutes.
Sir Quack
So, if the kickoff happens then both teams decide get some exercise without leaving the field or stepping out of bounds (i.e.
But if the guy dies on the field while holding the ball, the play is still alive until an opponent downs him.
Cricket games can theoretically go on forever, but in the classic (Test) form usually take a number of days.
Tests are 5 days, however the theoretical shortest test could’ve 31 balls plus two breaks between innings for a score of:
Team batting first
0-all out, 0-all out
Team second
1-all out.
Nice vid
A baseball game can be legal after 5 innings. So 46 and a bit/9 ... more like 26 minutes or so.
MLB - you need to account for the 7th inning stretch. And what if a game is called after 5 innings for inclement weather?
Actuallly in soccer a match could last for everything between 1 minute and 90 as long a team can get five red cards on outfield players or if their is a fight and the ref gives more than nine red cards on outfield players
That Wayne’s world ending lmao
Opening shot is of SLC-my hometown! Ain’t she a beaut?!
Come out and visit, Five Points, and I’ll get you wasted on fry sauce and multiple wives!
Technically a baseball game can end after 6 innings right? When its suspended for weather..
Colin Harkins 5
4 1/2 if the home team is ahead
In tennis player can get injured or retired so really it can technically last less than a second if the serve is an ace
For football having a lot of run plays and only pass plays that result in completions and neither that go out of bounds and with no penalties. And then not getting a first down until 3rd Down and then when you do get a first down just barely get the first down without getting a lot of extra yards on that play.
For baseball the game could end after five innings if there was inclement weather witch could cut the game short.
you forgot volleyball, ultimate frisbee, and badminton
Thanks for showing petco park because I'm from SD and I like the Padres
Byron Buxton had a inside park homerun in 11 seconds dude
You should look at the fastest 6K XC time for golf for the most accuracy. You've just assumed El G could've run 3 back to back miles at world record pace (the world record was run on a flat surface with higher friction than grass), which he can't, however you do have one thing in your favour, that being there are substances which are banned in athletics that are not banned in golf. El G would've run faster for the mile if he were allowed to do more doping than he already did
A baseball game can be official after 4.5 innings with rain.
Your contrasting analysis concludes that it doesn't matter, but it was unimaginative to not consider play length.
i know i missed that. my bad
Ahaha Tennis Grunts forgot about those
Your pronunciation of non-English names is as devastating as a golden set in tennis.
How bout a Nascar race... Those things got tons of reasons to be slow as can be...
9:56 why has this video not been taken down yet
MLB could be shorter if there is a rainout after the fifth inning and the game will still count.
