- How to stop water running off your caravan roof and getting into the rubber seals around the windows by using J section aluminium stuck on with number plate tape
Very good idea, THANK YOU! for sharing with us. All the best for you. Great man you are.
Must agree with your comment "we are building stuff which is designed tofall apart". Totally agree.
Love this basically you have installed guttering👍👍👍
Excellent mod. Our 2012 Lunar Lexon has a bar similar to that fitted as standard. Our strip extends beyond the width of the caravan on each side so the water actually drains well clear of the van.
I also made one for my bailey wyoming after rebuilding the front window frames. My chanel is plastic and works very well and gives me confidence it will stop most water ingress that would normaly occur
Great idea, have same issue on my sterling, its on the back window right beside the bed.. have been thinking about something like this, now seeing it i am definitely going to do it, thanks!
I have a 1995 eldis thats got severe water ingress on the top corner of my front window. It was there when i bought it, but my missus and i ever saw it under the interior patch up. Now, i only want a couple more years out of it and then its getting split up and scrapped as eveything works how it should etc. This idea is ideal for me, along with some transparant form of sealant to completely seal up one front window. Brilluant idea mate. Ill let you know how i get on. Cheers. 😊
Top Tip Mate, Thanks for posting. Got similar problem with my Bessacar, I shall investigate.
Thanks I did this on my Bailey range GT fixed my ongoing issue
The J section has worked well, it is still securely attached and is deflecting the water well. When we use the caravan we are still getting minor condensation at the base of the front windows, but nowhere near as much as we used to get. We are also using a dessicant Kilrock to dry the van over the winter.
HI DO YOU WHERE I CAN GET J BAR FROM THANKS ALAN
HI Alastair thanks for posting, I was just considering this and you have convinced me Thanks Byron New Zealand
Can I ask, did this completely reverse the water ingress? Where can this be bought? Thank you for this great idea.
Brilliant idea
Hi thanks great video I’m having these problems right now can you tell me what I key into google search to buy this item thanks
Excellent
This is a standard fitment on Lunar caravans. Streamlining bodywork is very pretty but not always practical.
Hi, how did you attach j section to caravan ?
Thanks 👍
Good luck with the fix.
Now we just need to persuade manufacturers not to build in obsolescence to their products! If water is directed away from the windows and doors in the first place you would not get leaks.
Genius! Thank you!
Hello Alastair, your video is a perfect example how one can provide some easy fix redundancy in the design to ensure durable long term caravan! Would it be possible to gain your view on the area where the rear bumper laps under flooring and whether this also requires further proofing?
Please may I ask were you purchased this, also what adhesive you used to stick it on with, thank you .....
Brilliant 👍
brilliant
How come you do not reply to people seeking your help / advice?
Where can you purchase it and is j bar the corrwct name for it .cheers
I will try this thank you
How did you fix it to the caravan
What did you stick that strip with on your caravan
Is it a 4cm or 2.5cm deep rail? looks like a 2.5cm but not sure. Thanks paul.
Hi, what size j bar did you use?
A good silcon sealant and adhesive like sikaflex will fix the chanel very strongly
My 2006 lunar lexon already has this fitted as standard, this isn't a new thing.
I have a similar problem on my newly purchased Hymer - how did you attach the aluminium section to the caravan?
Double sided number plate tape
After sticking the J section on with double sided tape, I also used silicon sealant to protect the tape from water, top only. I did not want to screw the section to the caravan, as I did not want to add any holes where water could get in.
I used double sided number plate tape, and sealed the gap i.e. the thickness of the tape with silicone on the top side only. This will allows a non destructive repair, which could be removed at a later date if required. One winter later it is performing well with no signs of it coming loose. It also stops detritus getting into the window seals.
ok but you have not said if it worked ? Or where to purchase ? I have similar problem , thanks
Yes it has worked.
To obtain, Google J section or look on eBay, it is a standard item, but you will save postage costs if you find a local aluminium wholesaler.

That aluminium will attract lightning.
Yes, but only in a thunder storm.
@@skf957 We get thunder in Britain.
@@shanebell2514 I know: I live in the UK. My point still stands though. :)
@@skf957 you're not bothered the caravan could get struck by lightning? What if it is occupied if it happens?
@@shanebell2514 Well, if not occupied by me: Nothing.
fantastic idea
