    I'm glad you managed to get some of your shots back Austin. Much as I enjoy the spectacle of a loco working hard I also enjoy shed/yard views so thanks for including some of these. Chris

      I was so down when it looked as though the shots were lost Chris especially the night scenes at the shed which had a great atmosphere. Thanks, as ever for your kind comments

    I've watched both now Austin, superb shots and editing. I saw this railway on my recent trip to Europe and I'll definitely be going back and spending longer there. I especially like the way you pick locations with patches of sunlight and also the way you let the shot linger after the train passes. A bit of a trademark I think.

    (3:30) There are few videos at YT with shed at night but none with this pic clarity and sharpness. Thank you so much being able to salvage this treasure of footage.

      Thank you very much. The shed at Wernigerode does have a special atmosphere at night

    Superb video Austin Shots of the railways will always be worth watching in the future to bring back memories of those great times (C&A)

      Thank you, indeed I always find when looking back over old videos that memories come back to me. Any of us filming today, whatever it is, are filming tomorrows history that hopefully someone will enjoy in the future

    Beautiful work there Austin. One place I've always wanted to visit, but your videos have done brilliant job of capturing all the action so well that I feel I've now been there virtually!

    • @acw71000
      @acw71000  10 лет назад

      Thank you, it is definitely worth a visit. Must admit I'm finding it hard to get enthusiastic about filming in Britain again after seeing those 2-10-2 tanks working flat out.

    Another superb video Austin...i am so glad you managed to salvage the footage you thought you'd lost. It amazes me that you found so many great filming locations on this Railway abroad. Awesome scenes throughout....best wishes...Steve.

      @acw71000  10 лет назад

      Many thanks Steve, it wasn't hard finding the spots, a few months poring over maps and Google Earth as well as looking at other videos was all excellent preparation. Footpaths follow the line in many places so locations are easy to come by

      Thanks Alan, I'm glad to have triggered a few memories for you. I suppose quite a few views have changed since you last went as the trees grow ever taller

      @balmesh 10 лет назад

      The biggest change, Austin, is at Eisfelder Tahl Muhle where the diesel arrives. When I first went it was steam - came in, unhooked, took water, ran round and then took off same time as the main line train and they raced off together! Happy Days!

      Thanks Steve, yes the shed is wonderful especially at night. It's the closest I've been to how it must have been in steam days with real working steam

    I've watched both parts now Austin and what superb footage you have collected in your time abroad. You've captured some very powerful sights of the loco's tackling the inclines; would certainly like to see British steam power attacking such steep climbs. As always it’s been a pleasure to watch, thanks for sharing - Regards, Sam

    • @acw71000
      @acw71000  10 лет назад

      Many thanks Sam, it had long been an ambition to visit the Harz and it was so impressive, closest I've been to real working steam. I can thoroughly recommend a visit and its a beautiful area too for the non rail enthusiasts in your family!

    Splendidly noisy show from 6101. And what a noise at 10:15! I'm guessing that was one of the scenes you salvaged; it was well worth it.

    • @acw71000
      @acw71000  10 лет назад

      Thanks very much and yes, that was one of the recovered clips that I was very pleased to have recovered. We had gone there to film the special returning to Nordhausen thinking we had missed the service train but just got set up and heard this noise approaching through the woods, tremendous!

    It would have been a travesty had some of this excellent footage been lost Austin. This is another faultless production, with the camera producing some stunning low light images as well as the variety of angles you've use to capture all of this...10/10 from me...Bob

    • @acw71000
      @acw71000  10 лет назад

      Many thanks Bob, I was certainly pleased to have recovered these shots especially the night scenes. The light was good around the yard which helped a great deal. Got to go again to visit other parts of this wonderful network

      If I remember correctly, they run the trains on a daily basis, and these surprisingly large and powerful Narrow Gauge locos, are a wonderful sight to see....Bob

    • @acw71000
      @acw71000  10 лет назад

      Robert Masterman Indeed they do Bob and I felt it was the closest I've been to real working steam since the sixties. We plan to make a yearly visit there in future as the whole area is beautiful with the trains being an added bonus

      +Robert Masterman Indeed they´re powerful ... (700Hp - 99 222 has even750Hp)
      And ... btw. "Pfiffi" (the 2-6-2) has only 250 Hp also comparable to the Mallet engines with 230/270Hp.

    hi austin, very nice indeed.
    i remember when i was there 30 odd years ago, thinking, for narrow gauge, what big powerful brutes the 99 class 2-10-2 tanks were.
    i haven't changed my mind........

      Thanks very much John, they are certainly impressive locos, the size did surprise me a little. I think in one of the other comments someone said they have the same tractive effort as a Black Five

    Sehr geile Dampfzüge, normalerweise liegt da um die Zeit richtig geil viel Schnee!
    Aber dieses Jahr gibt es halt kein Schnee, was weniger geil ist!
