Yes. But if every community is hired to play his or her community, you need to change what act means. That means not everyone has a chance for a part unless you are your character.
My big concern is that I hope everyone who will see this realizes from the outset that this is set in 1968 and that the characters broadly reflect the lives and attitudes of gay men pre-Stonewall, and that some of the dialogue and character interactions aren’t going to be politically correct from a contemporary lens - especially with how they treat the overly effeminate character, as well as the single black character. I can already hear people my age (I’m 26) crying about how this film “isn’t racially diverse enough” and, if they familiarize themselves with the original film or read the play prior to watching this, they might be a bit more understanding.
I was so surprised to see so many people complaining about the diversity of this. Clearly they know nothing about the play because they wouldn't complaining otherwise. If this was set decades later then that would be a different story.
This may offend younger viewers or it might give them a chance to see how things have progressed since 1968. But on the other hand, they could care less; the little stinkers.
It’s obviously important to show history, to see how far these communities have progressed. But your comment dismisses the point of those original complaints. People aren’t saying they should depict “more diversity” because that would be historically inaccurate. People are saying that the stories that keep getting produced-in modern times-are often ones that exclude people of color (because they are old stories). There’s no reason to keep producing things from the distant past, when we could be giving opportunities to the diverse perspectives and rising young talent of *today*

I was mesmerized, but even thirty-two years ago, it never occurred to me that it would be turned into a motion picture, with not one, not two, but THREE of its actors living their lives as openly Gay men, never mind as openly Gay actors.
Jim Parsons is amazing in here. Some say they still see Sheldon, well, If you firmly frame Jim Parsons as Sheldon, you'll find it hard to see him in different ways, he's unique voice, southern accent... There are definitely some clues of Jim's own traits will give you the impression of Sheldon. I feel like Ryan Murphy is acting like a high school teacher, making kids sit together and work together in order to make a ship happe
*alternative title:* Ryan Murphy and his favourite gays
Never got to see it on stage, thrilled I finally get to watch it, even though isn’t live. Amazing cast.
Watch the original. Preferably first.
I thought Matt Bomer was Henry Cavill lol
I did too for a moment
BS - they are nothing alike...
Omg, Ryan Murphy is taking over Netflix.
Matt is there so im gonna watch😍
I see Charlie Carver and I'm just like not even going have a second thought bout watching this video
I hear ya buddy. My fantasy gay boy
SAME OMG why isn't anyone else talking about him? :(
@@a-minnie429 Cowboy's part has the fewest amount of lines.
I was so sad I couldn’t watch this on Broadway, so glad this is coming to Netflix!!!!
Neil Patrick Harris could have been great Addition !
yawn
It is a screen adaptation of the 2019 Broadway revival that won the Tony Award for Best Play with the same original Broadway cast in this film.
I saw Jim Parsons + Netflix and knew it was produced by Ryan Murphy
Jim also did the role on broadway well they all did.
Favourite line in the movie/play? "it's for YOU, Hank!!!"
I'm on my 9th Season of the Big Bang Theory.
Please stay there !
My thoughts and prayers are with you. You poor soul.
Is it actually that bad after s9
@@keremh. If you're a true fan it's still good but it is not as good as the earlier seasons
Mee too
oh my god!!! I watched Jim's interviews of the press tour of this play, but never had the chance to watch it, but now I can!!!!!
It's Sheldon in different planets
Can't wait to see this
I normally love movie mysteries and don't mind them not being resolved but I'm dying to know 2 things:
Why Alan was crying and what the significance of Michael's gift to Harold was because it seemed significant but was never touched upon.
They are never explained. It's up to the viewer's interpretation.
Matt Bomer was my first heartbreak 😭😭😭 fell in love with him on White Collar then later found out I didn't have a fighting chance in hell. 11 year old me was crushed.
edit: still love him though
*sings* "These are a few of my favorite gays."
After I came out of the closet, at the age of eighteen (I AM currently fifty) I remember reading the play "The Boys in the Band."
I was mesmerized, but even thirty-two years ago, it never occurred to me that it would be turned into a motion picture, with not one, not two, but THREE of its actors living their lives as openly Gay men, never mind as openly Gay actors.
You haven't seen the 1970 film?
@@RaymondHng Not yet, but soon.
But once you try just to put this Sheldon frame aside for a while, you'll find Jim Parsons is such a versatile actor and get yourself ready to be deeply moved by what he delivered in every scene.
I saw the original Movie, made in 1970 I believe. It was a wonderfully done film. And This remake looks like it will be just as good. I hope they have done the characters justice and that they can deliver as good a performance as the original cast. I can't wait to see this movie.
Looks like all the old-school stereotypes of gayness are represented, but not in a negative way. We have, for example, the 'Pushy Bossy Gay' (Jim), the 'Scary Witty Top' (Zachary), the 'Stud-Muffin' (Matt and Charlie, but mostly Matt), the 'Campy Funny Gay', and of course, the 'Closet-Case.'
I mean this is based on an old play from 1968. It would be very weird if it didn’t have old stereotypes
I always thought Harold has the best lines (it's hinted he's Michael's ex)

It's a movie?!?!? OOOOOH no wonder they were in the same room the entire time
I feel like you're trying to be edgy and clever. It's not working.
@@AngelusHale I actually wasn't trying to I was just thinking it was a show, but it wasn't
Well it was based on a play which was set entirely in an apartment on one night.
@@toddramsey3799 I always assumed it was a musical.😅
