You might not be familiar, but the British and probably more so - the English, absolutely LOVE taking the piss out of the French 🤣 it's basically culture to us
It's always funny to me when americans joke about France and how they surrender easily and are worthless in a fight. Without France The United States of America would never, ever have won the independence battle vs England.
‘Allo! ‘Allo! … accents galore but all in English whether they’re French, English airmen, German, Italian, French resistance speaking in English … and especially the English policeman speaking French. Hilarious.
And good moaning to you - I loved the way they took similar sounding words with a totally different meaning to represent just how bad their French was!
The peak of people speaking with bad accents as a replacement for speaking the language itself is Allo Allo, where the main characters speak normal English but they're supposed to be speaking French. Then there's the English characters who speak French badly, and this is represented by them speaking English with a bad accent, the peak of this being officer Crabtree with pearls such as "I was pissing by the door when I heard two shats." when he intends to say "I was passing by the door when I heard two shots". Then there's the English characters who only speak English, they speak in a very exaggerated posh accent, and although the "French" are also speaking English, they don't understand each other at all. Allo Allo is well worth a watch btw.
I promise I didn’t read your post before posting my comment. I just said exactly the same thing! Joeeel, please do an Allo Allo reaction, you’ll love it.

True, our weapons were advanced above others to be dominant, a lot like stealth fighters/bombers and cruise missiles compared to camels, motor bikes and cars, if you get my drift lol
American/English Hollywood War films were usually where the Americans won all the battles, even the ones that they didn't take part in but they let the English play the parts of the Germans using over exaggerated English accents. " The Great Escape" was one in which no Americans were involved. They did help initially with tunnel construction but had already moved to a different camp before the Escape took place. No racing around the countryside on a Motorcycle.
The best humour is based in truth. Blackadder was hilarious. Right up until the end. The very last episode ended on a sombre note as British troops in WW1 went "over the top" and were replaced by fields of poppies. Just the memory of it makes me teary.
So the accent thing is part of a tradition where its possible to represent a different language without having to put translation subtitles, This was used to great effect in the comedy "Allo Allo" where characters could not understand each other due to language barriers then they added an Englishman with really bad french (which comes across on screen as mispronouncing english words in funny and rude ways). its also often overlooked that even in historic films that actually most of the characters are not talking what we call english ie some will be in middle English or old English, films of the middle ages all the royalty and nobility would be speaking French. Ah, I've watched at least a couple of other Channels watch this but I'm interested to see your reaction. I haven't seen much Blackadder myself but its definitely worth it. 😄😂😁
The tribe that Edmund Blackadder's describing at 8:10 minutes into this video, you know the tribe that's "....two feet tall and armed with dried grass...." are better known as the Fukawe tribe by us Brits and they were renowned for walking through the same long grass as it was growing and jumping up and down to see where they were and coming out with their plaintive cries of " Where the f*ck are we? " that to our British ears sounds like they were making their arrivals known prior to them appearing on the battlefield because it sounds like " We're the Fukawe ", doesn't it? I apologise to you for that horrendous joke, Joel, but if it's any consolation to you it's probably twice as old as you are ( or possibly even older ) which obviously means that the old jokes are often the best ones, aren't they? My only surprise about this video is that Blackadder and the rest of them managed to omit the Irish from their list, didn't they? This leaves me wondering whether or not the Irish themselves would be morally outraged because of this omission and they'd probably come out with something like " What's wrong with you Brits, aren't we Irish good enough to be included in this list of yours? ", wouldn't they? :-)
The Ooomahgooleez tribe of the lower Rift Valley were a tribe of Pygmies who lived in vast grassland that grew high over the heads of the Ooomahgooleez tribesmen. They were known to have short legs and long scrotums. They would have to leap high into the air to look above the tall grass upon landing they would give their distinctive bloodcurdling battle-cry that would echo above the Savannah for miles in all directions, hiding their numbers and striking fear into the heart of any male who heard that anguished war-cry.
Yes the British are quite good at the stereotypical insults, however, unlike so many other cultures, they can be just as harsh when directing it towards themselves!
You need to review Atkinsons' "Toby, the Little Devil." He's essentially the tour guide in Hell. His take on Everybody is dry as dirt and as nasty as a boil!
Blackadder is late 80’s/early 90’s I think, so no, you weren’t around. If you enjoyed the French accents, I think you’d enjoy a comedy from the 80’s called Allo Allo. The scripts were written by two Englishmen, one was Ben Elton, a jew. What's interesting is that there are no actual insults towards the English except for the penultimate toilet humoured joke when a German refers to "you English". The " British " jokes are not the same as English jokes just to be clear. I've pointed this out as most Americans think English and British mean the same, they do not. The later refers to three national identities (English Scotish and Welsh). The Northern Irish are not part of Britain, but are part of the UK. There are no anti semitic jokes, but some jokes attack a nationality for no reason other that their nationality ( The Welsh), which is like attacking a jew for being Jewish.
