    The narrative from those comedians really is 'I wish I was born a comedic genius and could simply wait until I was 40 to bother to do anything about it, then take the world by storm'.
    In reality, Ricky's clearly a hard worker, who's done the hard yards in everyday, 'real' jobs with an incredible yet otherwise normal life experience, and the uncanny ability to make fun of it. His observations and intellectual take on his and our surrounds are pure gold, hence the well deserved wealth and success.

    Also, Ricky didn't just "write the Office and suddenly became famous", he had been on the grind for years before that. He used to appear on the 11 o'clock show back in the 90's as a comedian and definitely did not just appear on the scene immediately after the Office. Ricky had done stand-up back then, in smaller venues, but I think he always wanted to get into TV. However, the reason he does stand-up shows now (he doesn't have to) is because he always enjoyed doing them. I don't think he ever really toured like some stand-ups have to, but to say he never really had to graft is just nonsense.

    • @davidz3879
      @davidz3879 Год назад +10

      True, but the vast majority of people hadn't heard of him before The Office. I watched The 11 O'Clock Show & tried talking to my colleagues, friends etc. about it. None of them had a clue who or what I was talking about & weren't interested. When The Office began, some of the same people recommended RG to me!

    Ricky was around a LONG time before The Office! He didn’t have it easy as you say. Try looking up ‘The 11 O’Clock Show’. It’s where I first came across him, when he had a (max) 5 minute section in this comedy news show. He was good but yet to be great. You’ll also find it was where Ali G (Sacha Baron Cohen) first made his mark. Same 5 minutes.

    Oooh Ricky didn’t have to spend 6 nights a week travelling the country with predictable material . But what did he do before the office was that easy or a struggle for recognition, or did he just divine the brilliant observation that was the office . Maybe Ricky had the worlds most successful podcast for a while . And maybe Ricky can sell out theatres and arenas wherever he goes , maybe he can stand up infront of Hollywood elites and rip them to shreds , where every other comic just sucks up to them ! Boo to the haters .

    By the logic that Gervais isn't a "real" standup comedian - there are many greats that would be included in that list - including Robin Williams. He played some clubs (more for his own benefit than the audience - keeping himself sharp) but never really "struggled" and was cast in television quickly. His true standup career didn't become a thing until after he was famous.
