NRW: "Nationality is important!" New rule! Police want to name suspects' origins
In North Rhine-Westphalia, the nationality of suspects will in future be mentioned in police press releases. Interior Minister Herbert Reul plans to change the media decree in order to create more transparency and reduce the burden on the police. Crime statistics show an increasing number of suspects with a migration background. Alexander Throm, political spokesman for the Union faction, supports the initiative and emphasizes the importance of nationality as an essential characteristic. Critics, however, fear generalization and discrimination.
