Phew it took me a long time to get this together but I'm back from my business trip and excited to get back into things! What do you want to see Officer Training School cover next?
How the **** do your videos only have a few thousand views man?Easily the best guard content out there for people looking to learn. Just back into guard after 20+ years and so glad I've found your channel, thanks for the fantastic content!
Always good to watch another Officer Training School video. Informative as always. Tiny bit of feedback: While I can enjoy a bit of sassiness for comedic value, I did feel it took away from the seriousness of the information. Like "is he joking or not joking when he said ____". As a new guard player, I gravitated to your channel due to the informative value and the ELI5 style of explanations; and comments like "its just bad" without a small explanation to why its bad lead to more questions without answers. Anyways! Just one guardsman opinion. Looking forward towards RUclips Membership for your channel, definitely will be joining when you have it!
Hey as a newbie to this hobby this exact videos help me a lot! So thanks first of all. My question to the vanquisher: If I use it as a frontline LR, is the Lascannon still the best hull weapon or does the flamer or even bolter may be better if it is stucked in close combat?
Good question! David Purcell, who has been pushing the use of Leman Russes (as opposed to Hellhounds + Chimeras) as Frontline tanks, still is bringing Lascannons, and just shooting guys off with Multimeltas + heavy stubber because of how underwhelming bolters and flamers tend to be. Flamers + Bolters are most effective against light chaff like Guardsmen and similar units, which will never kill the Vanquisher anyway Lascannons mostly just shoot at something else
So caveat here that I have little personal experience playing against Necrons because they're mostly absent from my local meta One of the best tech pieces I've heard about dealing with Technomancers is Straken. By using the Epic Challenge Stratagem and giving him precision, you pretty easily clear the Technomancer in Wraith and Warrior bricks Bullgryn have about an even chance of beating Wraith units in extended combats, but more importantly will paralyze the Wraiths and both units will be stuck for most of the game, and we have more things left in the army afterwards For everything else it's mostly about drowning them in firepower
I want to shout out for heavy bolters man! 2 heavy bolters can add some great long range capability and sustained hits can really seem to help the damage output. To clarify your comment on them the maximum damage output from 2 heavy bolters would actually be up to 24 damage if you include sustained hits. Thats the same as meltas (but the melta pip that thanks to the melta rule on top). The thing is though, meltas can only ever kill 4 models with that whereas heavy bolters can kill up to 12. There's legitimate argument that the meltas will guarantee a kill thanks to -4AP. But that equation can also be balanced against an army build that uses exterminators / hellhounds to manipulate AP and at the end of the day there's just a lot of stuff that is going fall back onto a 4++ or 5++ anyway so there could be a counter that anything more than a -2 or -3AP may just be unnecessary!?
Heavy bolters have only 5S. So it's 5+ to wound terminators, aggressors and all other heavy infantry, while plasma/melta would have 3+, twice the chances. Moreover, for 3T infantry you will have only 3+ to wound, while plasma and melta will give you 2+ to wound. Aaand 10T vehicles will have 6+ to wound them, while plasma and melta would have twice the chances with 5+ to wound. So, if you want to shoot big squads, plasma is better because the same number of attacks (if not more) and better strength, ap and the same damage (you rarely shoot standard plasma). Sustained hits looks good in theory, but you can't rely on them: on 6 attacks from two hbs, you will usually get one, rarely two additional hits. With 5S it's not a big deal really, since it won't wound anyway. And plasma shoot the same range as HBs. Soo, no, there's no way HBs are any useful, 5S is killing them, considering the alternatives.

Awesome
What do you recommend for clearing Necron hordes that are buffed by leader units (5+ FNP, 4+ invuln, etc?)
So caveat here that I have little personal experience playing against Necrons because they're mostly absent from my local meta

It's real hard to keep a good Necron down. I'll have to try that Straken strat, friend group has a necron player. Thanks for the tips!

is it just me or have you missed the exterminator ?
I actually did another video entirely on the Exterminator because it plays pretty differently from the rest of them!
