I read about this on Google. She stabbed him in his chest during a book-signing. She stabbed him with a letter-opener. She used so much force that she broke the handle off the letter opener. She just barely missed his heart. The doctors said that if King had even sneezed, that he would have died. While they were arresting her, she was yelling about how she had waited 6 years to kill him. But I still don’t know why she tried to kill him.
I forgot to mention that Dr. King refused to press charges against her.

People don't know just like they don't know his mother was killed 6 yrs after Martin was shot and killed.
His mom was killed by a black man name Marcus Chenault.
Both Izola and Marcus had mental illness.
Something that is still not talked, taken seriously in the Black community.
Marcus Chenault shot Alberta King and 2 men while they were in church in 1974.
His mother was playing the organ, when Marcus shot and killed her and a deacon.
He start yelling that the war had made him like this.
The courts wanted to give Marcus the death penalty, but the King family said no.
They gave him life instead.

THIS is a story I would like to see...the mental gymnastics to play this woman would be wonderful to watch.
One can debate and write a profound thesis on how our tortuous, manual labor can be accepted, but when "we" attempt better, we lose our minds with rejection. I say because they were both well known around the world especially to the black community. And they both ended up in the hospital with damage to their bodies and luckily both survived. The story mentioned she was often in between jobs. Back then women dressed up just to got to the store. It mentioned schizophrenia which I am quite familiar with. I don’t know what kind of treatment was available during those days. I’m sure there wasn’t any medication. Back the people kept their mentally I’ll family members home. My brother suffered from schizophrenia & despite that was very well groomed, held a job most of the time. Off his meds he attacked someone (with a knife) he spent his life fighting voices, but was a good guy. Her appearance is irrelevant in my opinion.🤷🏼♀️
Minimum wage in the 60's was $1.10, you could buy a new car for under $3,000. Now Federal Minimum wage is $7.25. A new car is at least $30,000. Lucky to get it less and decent.
