Lock Spinning and Using Textured Yarn

- In this video, I'm demonstrating one method of lock spinning I enjoy, and then using the yarn in a project. I often talk about ideas for using textured handspun yarn in projects but this time, I wanted to complete an actual handspun project. I hope this gives you some inspiration for ways that you can use textured yarns in your own handspun projects!

I have a big ol bag of wensleydale locks that I use for needlefelting on fantasy creatures and I just looove the curly texture on them. They make everything so much more fun! I was so jealous when you squished that big pile of fluffed up locks. I want a bed that looks like that haha

I'm not a spinner so it's amazing to me that you were able to just get a random handful of fluffed-out locks to attach to each other and become a yarn! I've been watching a lot of your videos and I'm wondering - is there a video where you spin the yarn out of your floof box? I'd love to see it!

Love the long wool. I love save them shave them. My question I’m washing a Lincoln long wool It smells like wet dog 🐶. I used scour power three times and rinse to still smells like wet dog Others have not smelled like this. Yes this is ewe fleece. What can use to get rid of smell? Love the the yarn beautiful colors
Unicorn is my usual go-to. Sometimes vinegar helps too. I would also check that your water is hot enough and you are using enough of it. Maybe you can also try trying them outside in the sun?

They are definitely mittens... fingerless gloves have the individual fingers started.
I vote topless mittens lol! But maybe open mittens? Or touch screen mittens? Or mini mittens (as in miniskirt) Oh boy...hahaha... someone stop me!

Here in Canada I make those fingerless mitts all the time. I call them wrist warmers 🤷♀️
Thank you so much for this video, I love the way you spin the locks unto themselves. I only was aware of core spinning them. I do have a question, you mention you spin counter-clockwise. I don't understand what difference that makes, either direction you get the twist, right? I think I'm missing something about this.
I know that when I'm knitting in the round, my yarn can untwist if it is spun clockwise so if I know I'll be using a single without plying, I spin counterclockwise. For a lot of yarn, especially high twist yarns, it might not matter as much. 💖🧶😊

Do you have any tips for spinning locks with a drop spindle?
Yes, I like to use a larger and wider whorl so my spindle spins a bit slower. That helps me keep track of all the locks in my hand. Then I do pretty much the same as I do with the wheel. I let the twist grab each lock, and draft them out into the yarn. 🧶💜🌷🐑

These weren't marked, but they felt more like sheep's wool to me. I'm just guessing though. 🐑🐐🧐💖
