Basically, Korea's main battleships at the time (Panokseon) were made of much stronger wood than Japanese basic battleships. Korean battleships were mainly made of hard wood, such as pine and oak, and were much harder than Japanese battleships made of Japanese cedar, so they could withstand the impact of cannon fire.
Japanese battleships were mainly made of light Japanese cedar, as they were mainly used for hand-to-hand combat. Japanese battleships were not durable, but light in weight and fast.
And because the Korean battleship (Panokseon) was large enough to match the size of the Japanese fleet's captain ship, it was possible to deal with several Japanese battleships alone.
This was possible because the Korean navy had developed ships for hundreds of years against Japanese and Chinese pirates who were mainly plundering the coast.

    • @hiroono1
      @hiroono1 Год назад

Korean ships at that time did not have iron nails or wedges, and as you can see from the buildings on land, their woodworking skills were far inferior to those of Japan. Therefore, no matter how hard wood was used, it would have been easily destroyed from the joints when it collided with a Japanese ship. In fact, South Korea tried to reproduce the "turtle ship", but she sank while being towed.

    • @mlim7130
      @mlim7130 Год назад +19

@hiroono1 Your response proves the fact that you don't know science at all. Wooden nails works a lot better than iron nails in water especially salt water. Wooden nails would expand and hold the joints of Wooden beams of ship tightly and strongly while iron nails would be rusted easily and weaken the joints. It is called, "oxidation of metal" and iron is easily oxidized in salt water without proper protective coating. That is why Japanes warships were weak and easily destroyed by physical collisions.

    • @hiroono1
      @hiroono1 Год назад

@@mlim7130 You know nothing of the function of nails. Well, it's the average intelligence of Koreans.
First, iron is about five times stronger than wood.
Also, the nail exerts its fastening force by rusting to some extent. Corrosion does not progress in about 10 years. The nails used on ships are about one centimeter thick, and when they are hammered into the wood, oxygen is cut off, preventing the progress of corrosion.
In addition, there is no record at that time that a Korean ship collided with a Japanese ship and sank the Japanese ship. It is a poor fake by Korean.

Excuse me, this is not a Japanese War Movie. This is Korean war movie based on the Korea-Japan War or Imjin War of 1592-1598. I think you should know and correct that. Good video nonetheless. Another thing that should be noted is that Yi Sun-shin was so feared and respected by the Japanese that they often mentioned him in their historical annals during that time and they also feared the might of the Joseon navy as it was the most advanced and powerful navy in East Asia during that time. The Japanese also made Yi Sun-shin a war god back in Japan. In Korea, Yi Sun-shin was also well respected that he had numerous titles and awards given to him even after his death. He was also designated as an ancestral deity and as a war god in Korea.

That's a lie. Yi Sun-shin is mentioned only once in the Japanese records of the war, and it is a report that he is dead. Then, more than 100 years later, Korean documents were exported to Japan, and cartoons for children were drawn on the Japanese side. It's an entertainment book like the Godzilla movies we call today. The Japanese knew the fiction was a lie and just enjoyed it, but the Koreans believe Yi Sun-shin's fabricated military record to think that the monster is real when they see Godzilla.
Rumors that the Japanese commander said he respected Yi Sun-shin are completely baseless lies.

@@mlim7130 History is not a choice. History is the facts of the past proven by evidence. Koreans are not given the opportunity to receive an education on the "procedures to prove the truth". Because of this, Koreans cannot win the Nobel Prize. This is because early Korean national leaders such as Syngman Rhee manipulated the public into believing a fabricated history in order to avoid criticism for their political failures. If Koreans know the "procedure to prove the truth", the lie of the government will be exposed. For example, during the 35 years of Japan's annexation of Korea, the Korean population doubled from 13 million to 25 million. This proves the fact that Koreans were protected by Japan, ate well and had sex every day. However, Koreans claim that Koreans were flogged and stripped of food by Japan. Only perverts get flogged and ejaculate. The only women who drink only water and produce milk are rural magicians.
Making Yi Sun-shin a hero is one of them. Looking at any record written in Korea and Japan around 1600, Yi Sun-shin can be evaluated as having won only two or three battles up to the Battle of Hansando, after which he was defeated. For example, in the Battle of Pusanpo, it is clearly written in the Joseon Dynasty Annals that "Yi Sun-shin could not win." It is written in his diary that Yi sun-shin escaped 200 km north over 5 days during the Battle of Myeongryang. In the Battle of Suncheon, the allied forces of China and Korea, including Yi Sun-shin, were annihilated and melted together. In the Battle of Noryang, Yi Sun-shin was killed by a Japanese gun. And these descriptions are consistent with Japanese records. Strangely enough, Koreans say Yi Sun-shin won even in such battles. What do you call this without calling it a lie?
These are facts, not choices for you or me. You, who say that it is a choice, show the characteristics of the Korean people who think that history can be changed in any way. Many Koreans believe that history is not something to prove, but something to cry out loud. But it's not the world standard.

@@mlim7130 During World War II, 80,000 Koreans worked for the Japanese army, mainly as prison guards in prisoner of war camps and as transport units. Of these, 148 were sentenced to death as war criminals. This is twice the rate per Japanese soldier. In the June 25th War, Syngman Rhee killed far more than one million people of his own country and forcibly recruited women to be sex slaves for his own army and the US army. South Korea invaded Vietnam and slaughtered the Vietnamese, giving birth to 30,000 Lai Dai Han. Lai Daihan does not know his father's name. Because rapists don't introduce themselves to women.
Since Japan made reparations to each country and signed the San Francisco Peace Treaty, war criminals were exempted from responsibility under the Amnesty Clause. Therefore, Japan is not a war criminal country. Germany continues to apologize because it has not signed a peace treaty.
On the other hand, South Korea committed many war crimes such as genocide and rape during the Vietnam War, but since it did not pay reparations and did not conclude a peace treaty, the war crimes are still not exempt and remain. Therefore, South Korea is a war criminal nation, and the Taegeukgi is a war criminal flag.
This kind of cruelty and cowardly attitude of Koreans is rare in the world. Koreans should stop cosplaying as victims, sincerely reflect and apologize to the world.

It is actually incredible to report that this battle really did happen. Admiral Yi Sun Shin with just 12 or 13 ships defeated a Japanese fleet of at least 133 ships. Yi's battle report claims that he sunk 31 ships with no ship lost on his side. (His estimate probably underestimates Japanese losses.) Admiral Yi did in fact use the unusual behavior of the currents in the strait where the battle was fought to his advantage to score one of the most extraordinary naval victories ever.
Admiral Yi is considered by many to be one of the great Naval commanders of all time, his naval campaigns and many victories in the so called Imjin war with Japan are remarkable. He has been for centuries considered Korea's National Hero, there are monuments and statues to him all over the place in the Koreas.
I should point out that this movie over dramatizes the battle to a large degree. The actual battle was more one sided than depicted and only one Korean ship was actually boarded for brief time, (Not the Admiral's ship.). Total Korean casualties were less than one hundred killed and wounded. Japanese losses in killed alone were over 2,000.

That's a lie. There were about 60 Japanese ships, and the situation of naval battles depended on strong currents. Early in the battle, the Japanese struggled against the tide. Crusima, a powerful commander, has died. However, when the tide turned, Yi Sun-shin withdrew. Yi Sun-shin then fled 200km north for five days. It was the Japanese forces who succeeded in occupying the strait, which was the purpose of this battle. Korean records say that Yi Sun-shin won for no reason, but looking at the areas controlled after the battle, it is clear that the Japanese won.
There is another interesting point about this battle. The 13 boats do not include the 'Tortoise Ship', which Koreans consider Yi Sun-shin's symbol. These 13 ships were all the ships the Korean army had at that time. So where did the turtle ship sink? There is no record of it, and not even a single thorn of iron has been found. Since there is no record of the turtle ship in Japan, it is reasonable to assume that the turtle ship never actually existed.

This movie depicts the Japanese Invasion of Chosun (old Korea) in 1592 and illustrates one of Admiral Yi's remarkable victories in 1592-1598. It is NOT a Japanese movie. It is a movie produced by a Korean film maker and a Korean director, Hanmin Kim.
Japan has been Korea's long time enemy since it existed in history. Iconic Japanese invasions in history were (1) Imjin Japanese invasion in 1592 which this movie is about and (2) Imperial Japan's annexation of Korea in 1910. Japanese brutality and inhumanity has left big scars to Korean people. They massacred numerous Korean people, men and women, young and old. They never made sincere apology for what they did to us. I believe they will reap what they did sow.
** Japan was Germany's ally in World War II. They still use Rising Sun flag (욱일기) in their Navy. They also use the image of the flag for sports games. It is like Nazi's Hakenkreuz. Imagine how you would feel if a German sports team uses Nazi flag in an international competition. It is how we, Koreans feel whenever we see their Rising Sun flag.
I know there are pro-Japan politicians and influencers in US. But don't forget the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Japan has been just like that. History shows vividly that they secretly and quietly approach you from behind and stab your back. Remember, there is no future for the people who forget the past.

For several years starting in 1952, Japan invaded Korea. However, many of the Korean people welcomed the Japanese army, provided them with food, and guided them on the way to Seoul. This was because the Korean people were dissatisfied with the rule of the Yangban, the ruling class of the time. As a result, the Japanese army occupied Seoul from Busan in just three weeks. When the war ended, 100,000 Koreans immigrated to Japan. Some were abducted by the Japanese military, but most of them were engineers who had been treated as slaves in Korea.
In 1910, Korea suffered colonial pressure from Russia and begged and was granted annexation by Japan. Even today, most jurists believe that Japan's annexation of Korea was legal. During World War II, Koreans fought on the side of the Axis Powers as Japanese. However, Japan did not trust Koreans, so only a small number of Koreans were recruited as soldiers, and most of them were support units called military employees. Yet 148 Koreans were sentenced to death for committing war crimes. This is twice as high as the Japanese incidence rate per soldier. It was Koreans who abused prisoners of war and raped Dutch women. Koreans do not reflect on such history at all, and have a cowardly attitude as if they were on the side of the Allied Powers. The funny thing is that the Rising Sun pattern is the design of the Korean provisional government bonds issued by Syngman Rhee in 1919. Do Koreans claim that the Korean provisional government was militaristic?

@hiroono1 The Japanese army was able to quickly move north to Seoul due to the overwhelming difference in the number and experience of troops. The Korean army fought to death with a small number of troops in the Busan, but hundreds of troops could not stop 10,000 Japanese troops and were wiped out. In the battles of Chungju and Yongin, Korean army gathered enough number of troops, but they were at the level of giving weapons to farmers. There was no choice but to lose. Furthermore, the misjudgment and incompetence of several commanders were critical to the Korean army.
Although some Koreans cooperated with the Japanese, it was only in the northern region where discrimination occurred. Moreover, General Jeong Moon-bu subjugated and extinguished the traitors with Kato's Japanese 2nd Army in the battle of Bukgwan.
Most Koreans formed righteous volunteer troops and defended their hometowns by fighting against the Japanese military with guerrilla tactics, and many of them had regular army-level organizations.
It is bullshit that 100,000 Koreans voluntarily immigrated to Japan after the war. Most of them were kidnapped by the Japanese army. It was the Japanese who enslaved the kidnapped Koreans. One of them, Antonio Korea, was sold to Europe as a slave. However, it is true that the Japanese people served Korean potters, who were not treated well, like gods.
As for Japanese colonial era... I don't think it's worth even refuting the bullshit of Japanese far-right wingnut.

@hiroono1 Your knowledge of history that is associated with what and how Japan did to its neighboring countries and their people is contaminated and corrupted to very concerning level even if you would not accept it. Japanese brutality and inhumanity are well documented in numerous historical records.
      1. Did you say, “many Korean people welcomed Japanese army when they invaded Korea in 1592”? Not a single person would welcome invaders who devastate his homeland unless he is one of a few traitors. There were traitors under the ruling of Nazi. You shouldn’t say that people welcomed Nazi because a few traitors were on their side. What in the world made you think that? Will you welcome the invaders? Do you truly believe that the invaders would take care of your problems? What is the historical basis that your claim relies on? The reason that Japan occupied the Southern part of Korea in three weeks was because they were equipped with highly advanced rifles at that time, while the Korean army was equipped with only traditional bows, arrows, and sword. This was because of the unbalance of military power. It was not because we welcomed them. You are completely misled. Numerous historical records, official documents, reports, military memoranda, daily journals, etc. consistently witnessed the strong and unwearied resistance of Korean people against the inhumane and brutal invaders for seven years. Righteous Armies were voluntarily organized all over the country and fought back to the invaders. Japan had a two-track strategy. Japanese foot-soldiers would push up to the north rapidly with highly advanced personal firearms, while the Japanese navy would travel through the ocean in order to provide military supplies to the army. But they did not count Admiral Yi and the rise of Korean righteous armies in their plan. Furthermore, the weather was getting extremely cold in the north. The invaders had nothing but retreated to the South. Admiral Yi lost his life at his last battle, the naval battle of No-ryang, which was also marked as the end of the 7-year Japanese invasion. The day before his last battle, Admiral Yi wrote in his daily journal that he would not let a single Jap escape the land because he knew they would come back in the future and devastate the land and massacre the innocent people again.
      2. Listen, man. Abduction can not be justified no matter what situation the abductees were in. Period. No question about that, got it? Will you allow your brother or sister to be abducted by the invaders and leave their lives to strangers? Be civil, man.
      3. You mentioned the Japanese illegal occupation of Korea in 1910. (1) Japan forced numerous Korean males to be enlisted to its army. It was not their choice, nor their will. (2) Go and search for historical evidence and even pictures about what Japan did to Korea and China. Did you hear about the testimony of sex slave women (or comfort women) at the United Nations? (3) Hey, visit a giant prison built by Japanese in Seoul at the time of Japanese occupation (SeoDaeMoon Hyungmooso) and see how the beasts brutally tortured with the most inhumane brutal tools and eventually killed inmates (they were imprisoned because they raised their voice against Japan). And we can talk more after that. I wonder if you still can say that we are cosplaying victims. What an uncivilized and beast-like thought you have!!! You are no different from those Japanese beasts a hundred years ago. Go back to your clan and live your life that way. I believe firmly that your people will reap the miserable consequences for what you had done to the innocent people.
Your false claim with no historical background is hurting the victims twice.

@@wartozen-c9i I will answer all the questions by an ignorant Korean one by one.
Hideyoshi told the Japanese navy not to fight the Korean navy because Japan occupied Busan to Seoul in three weeks, so there was no need to secure the waterway on the west side of the Korean peninsula. In other words, it was enough to secure only Busan Port as a supply port, and there was no longer any reason to distribute the force among the navy. In the end, the Japanese navy defeated tens of thousands of Korean troops led by Yi Sun-shin and Won Gyun with several thousand men.
I'm not saying that Yi Sun-shin's withdrawal is cowardly. It is simply saying that Yi sun-shin lost the battle and fled 200km. In other words, it is not Yi Sun-shin who is despicable, but the Korean who pretends that he won the battle he lost. Yi Sun-sin continued to lose all the battles even after joining the Ming army. In the Joseon Dynasty Jitsuroku, the Ming and Korean forces were defeated in all attacks in the Battle of the Three Roads (the Second Battle of Ulsanseong, the Battle of Sacheon, and the Battle of Suncheon), and were divided into three roads. It is written that the Ming and Korean armies were melted down together, and the people became frightened and prepared to flee.
Taizong said that if the Turtle Ship was going to fight Tsushima, he would like to see the battle from another ship. In other words, Taizong did not see the battle at that point, nor did he see the Turtle Ship. Furthermore, there is no description of the turtle ship in the records of Tsushima.
100 years after the Imjin War, Japan obtained documents from the Korean side such as Gobiroku from Korea. There was a commentary on the turtle ship in "Lee Sun-Shin Complete Book", so I drew a cartoon for children based on that. Of course, I didn't think it was true when I wrote it. The Japanese know that monsters are not real, but they can enjoy Godzilla movies. This is the difference between Koreans and Japanese who cannot distinguish between fact and fiction.

      Shame on you.

Without the full cooperation of the Korean people, it would be impossible for 150,000 people to walk 400km in a short period of time.
The politics of the Joseon Dynasty at that time was terrible for the people. That is why the people hated the Joseon Dynasty and cooperated with the Japanese army. When the Japanese army returned home, 100,000 Koreans accompanied them. When diplomatic relations were later restored, the Joseon Dynasty encouraged Koreans who had emigrated to Japan to return to Korea, but only a few thousand Koreans, including children born in Japan, returned to Korea.
In addition, dynasties and many of yangbans at that time were killed in the subsequent war with China. Today's Koreans are the descendants of citizens and slaves of that time. In other words, your ancestors cooperated with the Japanese army. Yi Sun-shin was your ancestor's enemy.

In Japan, focusing only on speed, the weight of the ship was light and a little weak wood, so the cannon could not be fired. It was a structure that was unfavorable for sharp turns because the center of gravity was in one place.
    But
In Joseon even though the ship was slow, it concentrated on defense and attack, so it could shoot cannons using heavy and solid wood. And I know that the bottom was a bit square and the center of gravity was in several places, so it was advantageous for a quick turn.

Also, if you stayed for the credits (the moving parts) you could've known other actors in the film... I'm sorry to say I only pledged just for this reaction. But that's just the first time around. Next time you watch the film (and tell Cody this as well), don't just pay attention to the main focus of a scene, also pay attention to the background. Here's an example, when they all crash into the train, the pig splatters into sausages. Another hard to notice detail is when they're about to be pulled on Metalbeard's ship, if you pause it at the right moment, Vitruvius is drinking from the double decker couch cup holder. There's a lot. And if that's not enough, there's also an extended version of Emmet's Speech to President Business found only in the junior novel, and Lucy's speech to the citizens (not sure if you want to take a look at that). To reiterate, I only pledged just for this reaction. I also enjoyed your Free Guy reaction, it was a very good film (the good f***ING morning Goldy had me rolling). So in truth, I pledged twice ($20). Like I said, I recommend next time you watch The Lego Movie, pay attention to small out of focus details. Cannons at that time were difficult to sink ships. There is a hypothesis that the Japanese ships were weakened by drilling holes in it with cannons, and then rammed and sunk by a Korean ship. Other hypothesis is that korean ships penetrated into the opponent's camp and japanese ships was sunk by direct fire with a cannon right next to it. It was difficult to sink it by hitting it with a howitzer from such a long distance like in the movie. Because there is a limit to the number of shells that can be loaded on a ship, long-distance firing must have been cautious. Cannons were so inefficient that the Japanese insisted on fighting by riding on an opponent's ship, a tactic they were good at.
In fact, at that time, if the Japanese were allowed to board Korean ships, the difference in swordsmanship was so big that the Koreans could not win. And if the Korean Navy fought recklessly without strategy and tactics, Korea had no choice but to allow the Japanese to board the ship because of the speed difference. Despite these difficulties, Admiral Yi Sun-shin never lost during the war. he was a genius. He always fought while maximizing the Korean advantage and minimizing the enemy's advantage.

Given that the difference in strength between steel and wood is five times, it is certain that the Korean ship would have broken at the joint if it collided.
In addition, Japanese wooden architecture has been very elaborate since ancient times, and there are many high-rise buildings such as five-storied pagodas. @hiroono1 Ha ha ha... Hey man. Once again, you don't have any slight idea about science like you don't understand the real truth in history and like you believe in falsely created and fabricated history. First of all, it is NOT called, "physics". It is called, "chemistry". Iron nail hammered into wood may be protected in air from oxidation for a while, but once it is soaked in water for days, it would be a different story.
Do you know even the chemical formula of water? That is H2O. O is the atomic symbol of oxygen. Water is the source of plenty of oxygen.
      2Fe(s) + 3H2O(l) --> Fe2O3(s) + 3H2(g).
The Fe2O3 is called, "rust". Get it? Try an experiment yourself and come back to me with the results. Put a shiny new iron nail in a water for a day or two and see what is formed on the nail. Yeah... rust. Fe2O3.
Furthermore, sea water has plenty of minerals like a variety of metallic ions. Iron is very chemically active in comparison with other metals. The presence of a variety of metallic cations in sea water is additional cause to oxidize iron even much faster. Iron wins out of water, but wood wins in water, period.

First of all, I apologize for being a translator.
Historical records show a greater victory than the original film content.
Please note that the fact of history has been greatly reduced for the purpose of directing the film. Even though there are records of such victories in Japanese records, the majority of Japanese do not believe in this fact due to the Japanese far-right.
For reference, Admiral Yi Sun-sin led the military, weapons, and battleships alone in the midst of war without receiving any support from the government, such as the king's jealousy and torture in prison.
(The Japanese invaded from the south, but many people did not flee to the north, but fled to the southwest of Jeolla-do where Admiral Yi Sun-sin was located.)
Also, even though the mother died of seasickness while visiting the news of her son's imprisonment, he refused to hold a funeral for three years (this is a natural funeral in Joseon, and the tombstones of his parents must be kept for three years) and was incompetent at the calling of King Seonjo, who had tortured him. You should know that the navy of Joseon, which was destroyed by General Won Gyun, was reconstructed with only 12 ships.
I want you to know the wrath of Japan and the people of Joseon, not the reconstruction for the king.

Abduction cannot be justified no matter what situation the abductees were in. Period. No question about that, got it? Will you allow your brother or sister to be abducted by the invaders and leave their lives to strangers? Be civil, man.
      3. You mentioned about Japanese illegal occupation of Korea in 1910. (1) Japan forced numerous Korean males to be enlisted to its army, it was not their choice, nor their will. (2) Go and search for the historical evidence and even pictures about what Japan did to Korea and China. Did you hear about the testimony of sex slave women (or comfort women) at the United Nations? (3) Hey, visit a prison built by Japanese in Seoul at the time of Japanese occupation (SeoDaeMoon Hyungmooso) and see how the beasts brutally tortured with the most inhumane brutal tools and eventually killed inmates (they were imprisoned because they raised their voice against Japan). And we can talk more after that. I wonder if you still can say that we are cosplaying victims. What a uncivilized and beast-like thought you have!!! You are no different from those Japanese beasts hundred years ago. Go back to your clan and live your life that way. I believe firmly that your people will reap the miserable consequences for what you had done to the innocent people.
Your false claim with no historical background is hurting the victims twice.
      Shame on you.

@@hiroono1Where in Joseon's records does it say that Yi Sun-sin was defeated? Even excluding Yi Sun-sin's diary "Wanjung Diary" "Joseon Dynasty Annals", which records the king's words, actions, and meetings with ministers (written by the king's scribes, and the scribes risked their lives to protect the book so that the king could not see it, so that the historical facts of the Joseon Dynasty are well known to this day) ) There is nothing like that in the book at all. The turtle ship is also well-known in Japan as a Mekurabu-ne(盲船), (沐海船) in records from the Warring States Period as well as the Japanese Invasion of Korea. If it's false, I'll find it for you Spreading the fabricated and false history of the Japanese right wing is like covering the sky with your hands. Since your false information doesn't receive enough likes, you are refuting each and every normal comment on this video. This clearly shows the fabrication of the Japanese right wing. Anyway, no matter what you say, you will continue to believe and incite false history. finally “A nation that forgets its history has no future.”

This movie's Battle of Myeongnyang (Koreans vs Japanese) was similar in concept to the Battle of Thermopylae (Greeks vs Persians) but at sea. In the Battle of Thermopylae the Spartans were vastly outnumbered by the Persian Empire (same as here) so they used a narrow pass so that the Persians couldn't send all their troops at once and thus only sending contingents sequentially. They couldn't surround and kill them easily. In the Battle of Myeongnyang the idea was the same: use a strait between small islands to force the skirmishes there and ALSO take advantage of the current patterns (Yi had studied them extensively and knew the current and tide changes). Many Japanese ships collided with each other and also crashed against the rocks (free kills). Also, the Korean ships were sturdier and had better cannons to bombard the Japanese from a distance. Using this brilliant strategy, led by Admiral Yi, they could defeat the 333 Japanese ships with only 13 of their own. (this doesn't mean sinking every single Japanese ship but sinking enough to force them to retreat to avoid heavier losses).

I think it is great that you are open to foreign films. I have noticed you reacting to many upbeat movies, as opposed to tragedy/horror types, so with that in mind, I think you would like would be like an action/comedy type like: Veteran, Extreme Job, Midnight Runners, The Good The Bad and The Weird, Dragon(the one with Donnie Yen), or the Detective K series. If you want more drama then: The Host, The Witch part 1, The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo, Trollhunter.....or how about a Superhero movie: They Call Me Jeeg
