Return of the King but only the lines that are actually from the books (Part 3)

- Welcome to the third and last part of the last one of these videos. Here you will find the lines that are taken from the whole trilogy of The Lord of the Rings books. In the lower right corner, you will find the exact quote, the character who said it and in which book and chapter. I kept the lines that are exactly the same, and also the ones that are similar (with a few changes for the sake of grammar). Enjoy!

"Well, I'm back" Last line in both book and film
Love that they included that in the movie.
This channel quickly went from silly memes to a serious contribution to the LotR fan community.
Silly memes? Good sir (sir? madam?), you mean *dank* memes.
fr though i don’t know what i would watch without these they’re fascinating
Thank you for the insert in the bottom right, it's interesting to see how they changed which characters said things, and when.
"Take your company right after we pass the wall". I find it funny that they still use this line in the movie when the wall around pelennor is nonexistent in the movie.
I guess in the movie they mean the general wall on Minas Tirith. As in if any orcs were cut off riding across the field, mop them up against the wall
I cant even make it through this without shedding a tear. Imagine what I was like in the theater.
Théoden's speech before the charge is the best motivational speech in all of fantasy, if not all of cinema. The best mix of inspiration, drama, epicness, and badassery.
Great acting by Bernard Hill. He really gives each phrase its due, and the way his voice rises on the third "death!"... chills.
Brings a tear to my eye, it’s just so good.
Bernard Hill even ad-libbed the banging of his sword against their spears.
I get literally chills every time I watch it
@@charlessaint7926 Which was very silly. Such an action would damage a sword going into battle. It makes me cringe watching it.
Thank you for letting the last clip play out. I needed that...
I’m reading through FOTR again, so when Gandalf’s speech about Valinor came up, I was confused that you said it was from ROTK. So I checked both books, and sure enough, a very similar line is said in both. I never realized that Frodo’s dream in Tom Bombadil’s house was prophetic!!
That's a very interesting theory. Over the course of FOTR, Frodo seems to have a telepathic connection to both Gandalf, Tom, and Galadriel, beings that exert a great deal of power. My personal speculation is that him, Frodo, seeing Valinor in his dreams in Tom Bombadil’s house wasn't prophetic, rather it was Tom himself that "let" Frodo see what he really is and where he came from. Lest we forget that Frodo and the other hobbits inquired much about the nature of Tom, and he only answered to be "fatherless". I believe this is even more proof that Tom and Goldberry are Ainu, thus Maiar spirits, and such is plausible because we don't know much about how actually the Maiar (spirit beings) interact with the physical world. Remember, a Maia may walk totally unseen, and take shape and form as he best pleases, being able to naturally (innate ability) converse with birds, beasts, and *nature itself* (Old Man Willow, he is an Olva) for they are now intertwined in the fabric of the Universe (Ea). This I believe, fits perfectly.
“Death they cried with one voice loud and terrible.” *goosebumps*
The ride of the Rohirrim is worthy of Tennyson, far as I'm concerned. If you changed "six hundred" to "six thousand" and "cannon" to "arrows", you'd basically have the charge of the light brigade right there.
Sean Astin was so good as Sam, especially in Return of the King
this is precise as hell. cutting right before aragorn kills the mouth of sauron. but then letting the whole last scene play out. perfect
Speaks volumes that some of the most heart-rending lines in RotK were taken directly from Tolkien. I think he probably would not have liked the films very much, but I hope he would have appreciated how masterfully his words were delivered by this cast.
That was really enjoyable. Thanks for letting the last scene play out.
You are truly amazing for doing this.
When Gandalf is comforting pippin about Live after Death. The whole silver-glass statement and ‘far green country under a swift sunrise’ is actually a dream that frodo had at Tom Bombadils house its the first sentence of the Barrow Wight chapter
It's also what Frodo sees navigating the Straight Road.
Dammit why you added the last scene of Sam closing the door? that since day one touched me so hard making me think that it was going to be the last moment i was going to say goodbye to the shire and the hole middle-earth. Im in tears right now 😭
5:45 gets me every time
i glad you posted this as it was only a couple days after i read and watch this that you posted this. :)
I didn't even have to watch the whole damn movie to cry at the end lol
By the end of the year, visitors to Bagshot Row (where Sam lives) in Hobbiton will be able to go into 2 properly furnished hobbit holes. At the moment they just facades with earthen empty spaces behind the doors. But 2 of the holes will be enlarged, lined and set out like a proper hobbit holes. They will be included in the tours to the movie set at the end year - probably to be in time for the next long summer school holidays and Christmas visitors.
Why am I crying tears of joy now?
These awesome scenes bring back all the wonderful feelings 🥰
These videos have made me want to read the books in the english original (I'm no native english speaker)
Even a freaking compilation video on RUclips choked me up a little.
Thanks for these videos. Makes you really appreciate the films and screenwriters even more for what really seemed like a tough job to translate these books onto screen.
Really wish you'd just let the "I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you" scene play out entirely
I may be confused, but i think that the line of sam, in mount doom previous of frodo's line is also pretty the same in the book. I remember a phrase about strawberries and cream that is said by sam.
The strawberries and cream phrase is only in the films, not the book, though it's a fitting addition to that moment in the film, to add poignancy to what they are fighting for.
I suggest reuploadling these in big videos since it seems your numbered ones might not be getting suggested as much as your single Two Towers video
Should do the Hobbit movies next. They'll be like a minute each.
Great job dude
1:07 me when they have set a fire in his flesh
Hate it when they have set a fire in his flesh.
What about the fire they've set in his flesh?
In the book, Denethor is making the "fire in his flesh" reference to the fever Faramir is suffering from after being struck by a poisoned dart during the retreat from the Causeway Forts.
Just realised in the movies that Gandalf was kind of misinforming pippin when he described dying. Or a least a white lie to comfort him.
Because Hobbits, men and dwarves don't pass on to the halls of mandos in valinor
So the elves say, but if you asked the dwarves they would claim otherwise.
Doesn't really jive with the internal "rules" or logic but it does with the theme. Regardless of where Frodo *literally* went, thematically, at the end of the story, he found peace in death. Tolkien loved coming up with a world full of internal rules but he also liked writing a good story. He wasn't really a DnD DM. His son was more into that shit.
The elves don’t know shit about the fate of mortals, and men likely go somewhere as beautiful or more beautiful than Valinor. Just separate from Arda itself.
They do stop by Mandos, actually, but very shortly. That's how Lúthien caught up with Beren, whom she had told to wait for her there.
when was the quote “A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day." said.
In the movie its after the mouth of Sauron talks but i forget where it is in the book
It isn't in the book.
gods, I'm so happy I found this channel. Subscription and likes from me, please continue making these awesome vids.
wow thank you these videos were a great experience
Beautiful.
Thanks for sharing and greetings from a spanish fan of The Lord of the Rings.
* fades to black *
AAAAAAAAAAAHHH IT'S SO FREAKING GOOD
great work, thank you
The ride of the rohirrim was too good for them to change much haha
Sam is the true hero of the story
We seriously hope they are currently working on the Hobbit
Would have been absolute heresy to not watch to the end. I wouldn't have been able to cut either if I were you :)
that series must have taken a while, you should do the hobbit next to get time to recover man, much less from the source material
Oh crap, there was no “Sméagol lied!” line
I believe that line arose from a new idea Jackson, Walsh and Boyens had going into the final reshoots in 2003, which was that Sméagol was *worse* than Gollum because Sméagol was manipulative and duplicitous, whereas Gollum was simply an animal acting on his appetites. The line is, however, exclusive to the Extended Edition, and in fact is the last addition to appear in the three films.
Great job!! But please, put the playlist in due order :3
Did you do videos on the Two Towers and they got taken down or something, because it's kind of wierd to exclude it.
Why not videos for Two Towers as well?
Are you going to do The Hobbit next?
It's disappointing that Frodo's bit of narration about the beginning of the Fourth Age of Middle-Earth wasn't in the book...
In the book it's Galadriël that talks about that, if I'm not mistaken.
What about "The Hobbit"? With these lines?
I wonder if RUclips allows videos under a second long
@@honestylowkeye1171 Don't worry, it'll be at least too minutes. Otherwise we wouldn't be able to fit in "Misty Mountains Cold"
About 90% of it will be comprised of part 1. And then Bilbo outwitting Smaug from part 2, and then "If you don't like my burglar, then please, don't damage him! Return him to me!" from part 3, and after that, whatever sparse references remain from the book.
@@Kurea47 thorins death speech is in the book Gandalf’s last line to bilbo “you’re only quite a little fellow in a wide world after all” is in the book
All of lines are in the book
Awesome I hope you do The Hobbit too as it’s finish
Excellent vidoes. I would love to see you adapt the GOT series and all the lines that they used from the books xd
Why is two towers video set to hidden?
Tolkien fans: Tolkien was such a master writer!
Tolkien: PRECIOUS PRECIOUS PRECIOUS MY PRECIOUS PRECIOUS PRECIOUS
“Don’t go where I can’t follow!” ?
Excellent videos!
Just got back into these movies recently and this was an excellent addition! Makes me want to read the books! Glad they worked around the fancy speech for the movies but it would be cool to read
Just finished reading it last night. Definitely recommend it!
Love it!
How is Aragorn's speech not in the book?!?
It is, but very different and in another context.
Some additions actually fit more in the films than the book. Tolkien did not use Aragorn as a protagonist, but a supporting character in the novel. The film, though, required him to be a protagonist, so he actually has character development in the film, including that inspiring speech before the Black Gate.
Where'd the Two Towers go?
So you're telling me "My friends, you bow to no one" WASN'T in the book?
No, it isn't, but it's a distillation of a longer passage in the book (in which only Frodo and Sam are being honored):
[Aragorn] 'A long way for us all, but yours has been the darkest road.' And then to Sam's surprise and utter confusion he bowed his knee before them; and taking them by the hand, Frodo upon his right and Sam upon his left, he led them to the throne, and setting them upon it, he turned to the men and captains who stood by and spoke, so that his voice rang over all the host, crying: 'Praise them with great praise!'
Please do the hobbit
Sauron: go to the shire and find baggins
Sam: you’re fucked now m8
Please do the hobbit next
I am curious what is from the hobbit in those films if anything is quoted that is.
Of course quite a bit is quoted.
Thought the you bow to no-one line would be here, feels so tolkien
Now do the Hobbit.
It's actually kinda sad to think how short it actually is
I know right? No time for the scourging of the Shire but plenty of time for “share the load”
Don't you mean "scouring"?
@@OneTrueVikingbard "Scouring of the Shire" as a chapter in the written narrative works, due to the different pacing of novel-writing. It can't work in a film adaptation, because the denouement has already been reached. Film and prose are two very different artistic mediums, as different as music and painting are different artistic mediums, but too many people simplify both of them to just slight variations in storytelling. They aren't.
Now do Hobbit
