I’d never ever imagine collecting matchbooks but watching this collection was fascinating. Not that I personally know of any of the businesses or locations but that they’re all little slices of time, saved forever.
Las Vegas Local Here:
The Algiers: DEMOLISHED - now The Drew Hotel
Bourbon St.: DEMOLISHED - now a parking lot for the LINQ
Barbary Coast: REMODELED - now The Cromwell
Circus Circus: OPEN
Caesars Palace: OPEN
Desert Inn: DEMOLISHED - now Wynn Las Vegas
Dunes: DEMOLISHED - now The Bellagio
Frontier: DEMOLISHED - currently a dirt lot
Golden Nugget: OPEN
Harrah's: OPEN
Holiday Casino: REMODELED - now Casino Royale
Imperial Palace: REMODELED - now The LINQ
The Algiers had a really swanky lounge, vintage... it was a hipster hangout for a while before the place went away.
haha i live in vegas too, it’s a shame all these places are gone
Kinda sad that all those places are gone
@@venusboys3It didn’t just go away, it was DEMOLISHED
Wonderful to see another entry to this series. I really appreciate your production efforts.
Ahh the simple things in life to take pleasure in.....relaxing asmr never fails to provide that ease of mind in a world full of chaos and insanity
Amén for that 👍, hugs from México.
Do a woodcarving while telling us about your career or profession.
You’re a treasure, wish our family had a cool Uncle like you! 😊 Your p.o.v. & ASMR videos are so unique, I’m hooked! Thank you for the time & care you obviously put into them & keep ‘em coming please ... these krazy times demand the stability & calm that you provide! 😌💙
Thank you so much! I appreciate that.
Bourbon St. was built in 1980 and apparently struggled its entire existence. In 2005, it was bought by Caesars and it was closed and demolished.
Thanks for the info
😞
These matchbook videos are fantastic. Words cannot describe how relaxing they are, thank you!
These are my absolute favorite of the videos you create! 😊 So relaxing and reminds me of my grandparents who were born during the Depression
Happy Thanksgiving! Your voice is naturally tingly, thank you so much for these videos!
Interlaken Resort is now The Ridge owned by Paloma Resort Properties and next to Geneva National Golf Course. We used to have townhouse in Geneva national and I remember driving past this resort! Thanks for the memories!
I have always loved matchbooks...very nice collection
Happy Thanksgiving, Mr RASMR. I'm very thankful for you and your relaxing work, my friend. Much love!
Edit: yes, I've been to the Bombay Bicycle Club. Or one of em, anyways. Hometown in Ohio had one for 20+ years. Closed in mid 2000s. Very cool restaurant!
These matchbook videos are my absolute favorite
Watched the entirety of this video over a couple of nights. Would love to see a part 2!
There will be a part two...just not sure when.
stressed about working tomorrow (black friday), going to watch this and hopefully relax enough to fall asleep
thank you 🌙
Cub Foods is a grocery store here in the midwest! I know of several around the Twin Cities in MN!
Best asmr channel change my mind
Cub Foods is still around in Minneapolis. As far as I know its a Midwestern and Eastern Grocery store chain. They vary, but the ones near me are pretty good. 🙂
You are so organized and so relaxing! Thank you for your time. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
The Desert Inn was very lovely but has not been there for many years now. I stayed with my mom when I was 20. Got replaced by one of the newer bigger ones.
Yeeees another matchbook collection video! These are so cool, I love this series of yours :) Very interesting and relaxing, and these are some amazing choices (especially all the old-school Las Vegas hotels - a Caesar's matchbook, now that brings back a lot of memories for me!)! Your dear aunt must have been a cool lady.
I remember when little restaurants owned by generations of the same family were the rule. I miss that time. It made me very sad to see it going and to hear so many people say that this or that restaurant or store would never go out of business, and something in my gut knew they were wrong.
At least these matchbooks are left.
The Dessert Inn in Vegas closed in 2000 and was subsequently demolished. It was the setting for the late 70’s / early 80’s show Vega$.
Love your videos!!! This was so relaxing! 💤
Cool info. Thanks.
Great video! I enjoyed up looking up locations that sounded interesting. Most of the places are still open... But Desert inn just closed this past August. Thanks for sharing your Aunt's collection. Happy Thanksgiving.
Honestly I could watch a whole video of you playing with the golf ball. Don’t know why but it’s super relaxing 😎
My Grandfather left me two plastic hotel shoe bags full of matchbooks. I love them so much, especially the ones with mid-century design logos. I'm trying to work out an attractive way to display them. BTW - The anticipation of your RMS Queen Mary video is great... I'm looking forward to seeing it pop-up in my notifications! :)
Find you a nice decorative metal box and just toss them in. That way it'll be easy to handle and look at them when the mood strikes....no pun intended.
:) @@RelaxingASMR I like your idea. They will remain protected from fading and possible damage that way too. I also wanted to mention that I watched your video where you shared your sketch of the Queen Elizabeth and I realize that your promised video was on that boat and not the Queen Mary... I was confused as I noticed the picture of the Queen Mary on your title page... is it possible your video is about both or even all three? Maybe I am asking too many questions. Please do not reply if it will diminish the interest, as that is not my intention.
The Algiers is the hotel Casino was made after. That’s by far my favorite.
Correct! Called The Tangiers in Casino. Excellent flick, top 5 AT for moi
That ball is gorgeous, I want one! ❤❤❤

Algiers is no longer in business.. native of Vegas here ... another great video
Cub foods is an interstate grocery store chain in Minnesota and Illinois. They have 77 stores as of today and are still in business.
They also had 2 or 3 stores in the Dayton, Ohio region until a couple of years ago. They closed those stores in the Dayton area a couple of years ago. I am sure the above info is correct. Just that the southwest Ohio stores closed a couple of years ago.
There was a Bombay club in Cambridge Massachusetts.....I was there many times
First box out, Interlaken, an absolutely beautiful town in Switzerland, been there 2006, Google it and look at the water that runs through the town, crystal clear, thanks Lee
idk why but i thought the thumbnail was a butter packet
If only
Just what I need for an early night sleep
Im from rockford illinois and recently they just tore down the clock tower and hotel. Crazy that one came up but now the area is flat. I dont know what is in store for the area now but still neat!
Probably a Starbucks and chipotle...
Welcome back with another super relaxing video!!! A friendly greeting from Italy. :-)
Greetings to Italy!
Keep up the good work.
Matchbook videos are my favorite
Although I’m 21, I still remember a time when they had match books at hotels.
It was so nice to fall asleep to thoughts of home (WI) while I’m missing my family so much on Thanksgiving. Cub Foods used to be near West Towne Mall in Madison in the same strip where Shopko used to be and where Barnes and Noble is. It’s now Metcalfe’s. Of course, if there’s one on the west side, there’s one on the east side but I’m not sure where the one over there was. I loved all the supper club match books and was waiting with anticipation for the F envelope to hear Fitzgerald’s mentioned. It’s been around since time began and I’m almost positive it’s still going strong. It’s in Middleton and there may be one other location. I should have done my research before I wrote this to make sure. Do you have good memories of Friday night fish fries in our many supper clubs? I live in NC now, and said to another WI native who lives here that I wish there were supper clubs here. It was such a nice concept where families could go after a long work week and gather together for fun somewhere besides a bar. Lol. Thank you for another relaxing video, and happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Same here. Just moved to the Netherlands from near Lake Geneva. Nice to hear some of these place mentioned while I try to fall asleep.
Ho-chunks are Winnebago tribe located north of Omaha about an hour 1/2 connected with Omaha reservation. Nice town they have as well.
You started recording at about 5:45. I hope it was in the PM.
We love you dearly
Reno resident checkin in. Circus Circus is alive and well
Man i really love your videos....thank you very much for relaxing me and making my hard days easier to fight with...your voice is so peacefull....greetings from Croatia and sorry for my bad English...one more time, thank you
Your english isn't bad at all. Thanks for commenting from Croatia.
I love these types of videos.
apparently the Bombay Bicycle Club is actually a rock group from 2005 :o
They've made a lot of music since then too. They're great!
Yay more content you spoil us
Most of the alpine is gone in Janesville due to expansion and construction of the area unfortunately.
Ulthwe Wulfgar Wisconsin?
This was lovely , thank you.
so this is what Andy Dufresne did after he escaped Shawshank
Your channel is awesome, and you have such a relaxing voice.
Only thing is I struggle to get to sleep cause the content of the vids is so interesting I'm fighting to stay awake to watch...
Lol tbh I tell myself go to sleep now and watch in full tomorrow and enjoy again....Thanks for been interesting and relaxing...atb Lee
glad i could listen to a new relaxingasmr video this thanksgivings eve
Cub Foods is a midwestern grocery store. Mostly in Minnesota now
"Alfabetized" well that's a new word to me. This is so relaxing and strangely interesting. Thanks! We don't celebrate thanksgiving in Finland, but I wish you a great one!
*Alphabetized. So close!!
I have been watching alot of White Winter Whispers ASMR in Finnish lately. Beautiful language you have over there.
What a nice Thanksgiving treat
Hoffman House is in Rockford, IL. My parents eat there.
Wow the clock tower in Rockford. It was kind of historic but they just tore it down last year
Yay! Love these videos! ❤
Hey after last vid on matches I bought a mixed bag of 90 lol, I really like these vids, atb Lee
Bombay bicycle club...had one here in Springfield mo...it closed in 2002 ish
Hartwig's Gobbler is gone... but still famous among fans of kitsch. There was a website about it, full of photos... plush blue shag carpeting, round water beds. I had friends that made a pilgrimage there to look at it before it was torn down.
You seem like a very nice person.
The Algiers was closed in 2004 and demolished.
Great video.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Is it the basis of the “Tangier’s” from the movie Casino?
@@brutallyhonest123 No, that was the Stardust that the movie "Casino" was based on which closed in 2006 and demolished.
Le Peejon how so since the Tangiers was referred to over and over in the movie?
When Rothstein sent a plane for his daughter to bring her back home he exited a jet that said Tangiers, not Stardust.
Ho-Chunk Casino with Stand Rock Buffet in Baraboo, WI is just outside Wisconsin Dells. Hoffman House in Madison, I believe, is affiliated with Ishnala Supper Club and Papa's Place (now Glacier Rock) in Baraboo/Dells area as well. What football game were you watching? Did the Packers win? Thank you for the video!
25:02 😄 My favorite movie!
It’s been really interesting to research some of these places and see if they are still there, what happened to them if they are etc. For example the Clock Tower Inn Was sold but the Museum of Science & industry took the 2,00 piece time museum collection (With time pieces dating back to 2000 BC) and most of them were on display at one point. In fact I think I may have seen them while visiting Illinois.
Thanks for the info.
I can tell you’re from Wisconsin just by the way you say Wisconsin 😉
Happy Thanksgiving
I enjoyed this video very much! Have you ever showed your face on any of your videos? I have always wondered what you may look like.
Thank you for your videos
If I recall the Algiers was featured in the movie Casino?
What a velvet voice.
Small world. I recognize Janesville and Fontana. I’m from Lake Geneva.
When I read the title I thought he meant like the cars matchbox
As a millennial I couldn't agree more on the topic of technology and how in some regards we were better off without it, tech is great and all, but to what end? Seems like there's no balance
Missing the rain sounds !
They are nice but its not like he can just choose for it to rain whenever lol
These are interesting because, other than seeing the different designs and curious names of places back then, you get a sense of places that really existed. Unlike bottle caps that are more commercial, the style of each location shines more here. It’s not a good idea to burn these, imo.
If you were to burn them, I’d prefer you at least documented on video every one of those books
I totally agree with your sentiments on matchbooks. They really do convey much more than a bottle cap ever could.
If, and I do me IF I burn them, it would only be after they have been documented. I can't hold on to stuff forever and I just don't see enough value in them to go to the trouble of selling them either. I sort of have a goal to leave this world with not much more than I came in with so as to not burden anyone with a bunch of clutter. Not sure if I can pull that off but time will tell. Things that are of interest to me probably won't be of interest to those that have to deal with my stuff someday.
Bonds 24K Fleer Brilliance
As far as I know there's a Desert Inn located in Hurghada in EGYPT:
If you listen closely at 0:00 it sounds like item drop in Minecraft
It took me so many repeats to hear it hahaha
Do restaurants still make their own matchbooks?
Used to live in Rockford
Had a neighbor that worked as a pit crew member at the racetrack there back in the day.
Been there a couple times. Small world..
When do we get to see the rest of these matchbooks?
Here’s part 2 ; ruclips.net/video/389zEqsmw8Y/видео.html
You can still get match books at casinos and the like
If you don't want them I'll take them !

Hello
No more cigar videos???
I’m sorry but does anyone else *hate* how slow this guy talks and his random pauses and stuff? Like it isn’t relaxing for me. It kinda makes me anxious ngl.
Then move on. He's personally one of my favorites
Just you by the sounds of it, dude
that's a pretty inconsiderate comment to leave, obviously the bulk of us enjoy his manner of talking
I find it very relaxing, the pauses create a calm tempo that helps ease my mind
if his style doesn't appeal to you, wouldn't it be more useful to just find a different channel and move on? why insult the way someone talks, that's not something they can change
Go away. Don’t say anything bad about Mr. Relaxing ASMR!!
