  • I spent this afternoon setting up a new Nextcloud server on a DigitalOcean droplet with Ubuntu 20.04 Server, so I thought I would share my thoughts on the installation and on the Nextcloud software suite.

hello I have installed the latest MX KDE version. I chose the option: PBR for the grub so that this installation starts on a lot of pc.
I chose the right partition (my usb key or I install MX). (usb key samsung 128gb).
after installation I restart and grub error!
so where does this come from ??
I extracted the iso directly on the usb key to install MX! on my other samsung key.
I re-install in default mode, ESP, and this starts but only on the pc where I am.
I tested this with Manjaro and this starts on my 2 pc.
    therefore ???

I would get a NAS and self host it.
You don't need to worry too much about server uptime if your the only one using it. You can just go home when your ready and turn the server back on if your power goes out.
If you really want to host it on the cloud, then Linode will let you expand the disk space with volumes. Google cloud storage is also on the cheaper side I think (I haven't used it in a long time though).

On the other hand the docker container is easier to have nextcloud using other ports than 80 and 443. ok, you like snap, and I agree snap has it's purposes, but what if you already HAVE an active LEMP stack running a few websites and you want to install nextcloud as a subdomain (you know, how MOST people (I think) are going to do it... then that snap is worthless because it'll interfere with the active web server. what if you want to set up different nextcloud instances for different domains (or subdomains) on the same web server? I'm all for automatic dependency resolution, but having the default be a setup that conflicts with other services is NOT a good idea.
