- So far this season is shaping up to be much kinder than the horror that was the 2019/2020 summer. There is strong growth of shrubs and grasses, the wallabies are robust and healthy and this summer they are all carrying joeys. Ticks are just starting to appear on ears and necks, but they are still the intermediate nymph stage, not yet the adult ticks which garnered so much interest from the corvids last summer.
Oh my gosh, a baby! So lovely. And the little wallaby mom looks free of those God awful giant ticks. The Cockatoo is gorgeous. All the critters chilling at the watering spot. This was fun to watch. Thank you.

Hello Wayne, sorry to disappoint - the ticks are still in the nymph stage. With mercifully cooler weather and more rain, this season will be later than last year.

This is a strange feeling !!! On the one hand I miss ticks and crows, on the other I am happy to see the wallavis free of ticks; and I am saddened by what happened in Australia with the fires; in short, we must let the nature continue its course and recover as usual do.

1. No ticks to entertain us.
2. There is def a relationship between drought/wild fires and tick infestation
3. Animals do show some sort of gestalt learning as in case of crows and ticks.

The purpose of the channel was only ever meant to be a way of sharing wildlife clips with friends and family. A small number of other people (perhaps a few hundred) from around the world also seem to like watching and engaging in a discussion about the wildlife, and we enjoy sharing what we see around us. Of course the vast majority of the subs to the channel are from the tick videos; the tick videos are an unexpected anomaly and a double edged sword - they aren't what this channel is about, but their popularity in recommended feeds has brought people to the channel, and a small number have then stayed for the actual wildlife, which is a good outcome :) I hope you are having a marvellous week and staying safe.

@@terry007ny Hello Terry, I WANT A PONY. Actually on second thoughts, I don't ... they poop everywhere. It's really not looking like there will be a tick video this season. It's now late in the adult tick season, and the few wallabies visiting the water are fat, shiny and tick-free. This is GREAT news; for the wallabies, not the channel, obviously. The question now is, are the corvids responsible for the great tick population collapse of 2021?

Hello Chris, we haven't had the intense rain that some parts of NSW have had, but we've definitely had enough to create hope of a recovery summer. We've lost a lot of the mature trees, but enough have survived to comfortably support the reduced population of koalas that survived the apocalypse, and there has been a really promising germination of new eucalypt seedlings. Introduced house mice are everywhere, threatening a summer plague, so I hope the raptors are gearing up to have a big breeding year! Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment.

Though it is green, the landscape still looks so sparse. It was delightful to see the wildlife and the joey. As much as I enjoy tick revenge porn, this was very refreshing to watch. Perhaps it could be it's own asmr niche?
Hello CS, it is a huge relief to be getting early signs of a 'normal' summer with summer rainfall this year. As you've noticed, the tree canopy is still very sparse and will take years to recover. The ticks aren't gone, they are just late - cooler weather and more rain has delayed the transition from small nymph to adult ticks. Very few wallabies are seeking the services of our water, which is a good sign that they are dispersed and nomadic as they should be :)

I'm really glad you guys put hoods and sticks in the water. A saw one struggling in the night in holding on. But wow alot animals come here man. Really glad you guys provided water. If it was possible to put another container there for more water to be available....just saying....as the small birds merely drink lol but take baths lol

Had our winter and spring,which usually means reasonable rainfall,depending where you are in the country. Give it another month or two and it will be parched and dry and full of ticks again,for eveyones viewing pleasure.
Hello Andy, we generally have summer rainfall here, so we should be moving into rainfall soon. We have had a much kinder winter than last year, with well timed falls keeping the understorey going. The tree canopy is still sparse, and we have lost more mature trees during September - we desperately need a wet summer to recharge the water table. There has been a really promising germination of new eucalypt seedlings - if we could get a few years of 'normal' seasons, a new generation of forest would grow, but I fear the 'new normal' will instead see this area transition to arid grasslands quite rapidly in the coming years.
