I don't think "all he wanted to do was sing with Whitney but couldn't keep up". First of all, no one can keep up with her. Gianni is actually a very good singer, this is obviously not a song for him but what they wanted to do was to remember and celebrate her amazing performarce 12 years prior in Sanremo 1987 witht that song. Btw, Gianni is now 80 years old, still singing and hosting shows in Italy.
I think he voice in 1998 was good but had some shaky moments but goin on that tour seem to strengthen it she didnt have much hoarseness and remember she recorded Could I Have This Kiss Forever while on this tour..
