Hey Chris, I was being sarcastic about the cost. Some channels get free cameras from the companies and sound like it is so easy for others to make 360 videos. I own a dual Kodak SP360 4K now and very happy with them. Software needs a little improvement but works great. i have made some great videos. I don't want to sound like promoting my channel but check them out and let me know what you think. It may even give you an idea what Kodak cameras can do also. I will check yours for 360fly videos!
How can you not like this video. It's very punctual, nice guy, informative, and inspiring. Makes me want to do it even tho I've never thought of doing it. Just ran across the video randomly on RUclips.
Great job! I just got an Insta360 Air and I couldn't figure out how to edit footage off of the camera and how to upload it to RUclips in 360. This answers pretty much everything. Thanks!
Thank you so much! You very clearly explained how -the mystery that 360 video/VR can be- works. I wish more people knew how to explain things like this!
Great question. When you shoot in 2.7 K you can't have as high of a frame rate. Also the final product is so large that I don't think you need a 2.7 K image as one of your six go pros. However you can shoot 2.7 K if you want. It is one of the recommended settings in addition to 1440. I just prefer shooting with 1440 at 60fps.
It's interesting... However, it's way too expensive. Instead, I'd buy 6 cheap cellphones and 3D print a stand for a selfie stick. That'd be much simpler...
Great video! I am actually writing about how we could use this "relatively" new technology to enhance education. Keep doing what you are doing, the Internet thanks you.
Just getting into this with Insta 360 One X3, Zoom H3 VR and Oculus Quest 2 and Final Cut Pro. How do you accommodate moving the camera (like walking) and correlating that to how much you can move while having an Oculus Quest 2 on? Do you have any videos about planning movement other than just standing still and looking around in 360 degrees. The goal is to create a short scripted story with the ability of moving around a bit. Is it as simple as figuring out how much space you want the user to be able to move in any direction with the headset on and making sure you use those same measurements when filming; like pretending that you have the virtual guardian when actually filming?
Thanks for taking the time to make this. You're right there is a void in basic workflow info. I am curious about adding green screen shot footage and if that can be layered on top of the 360. And can you mix 360 shot footage with zero degree? In other words, can you take a non-360 video and turn it into a 360? Any thoughts are appreciated.
Thank you. I first saw this technology in 2018 when a National Park Ranger had shot the 360 footage and I watched with a cell phone as a VR experience. It was very cool. The American Battlefield Trust has 360 videos on RUclips. They are great. I would love to create them, but it is not a cheap hobby. Clear instructions on the video.
Thanks for the video! It was long but super informative and I'm so eager to create some epic travel vlogs! You have helped me so much! I appreciate your time and effort it took to make this video. I'll check out some more of your videos on your channel.
Man, As simple as it is...I thought my new Samsung Gear 360 required some mental gymnastics, compared to syncing 6 Go Pro's - I can't even afford to think about that. Keep fighting the good fight and Thanks for the vid!
with the gopro hero4 how do I turn on the 4:3 mode? my avp wont stich the six vids. it groups all six videos into one small screen when I stich them together..
Thx for the crash course. Do you know if this will work with 6 go pro hero 2? I think this will help me get my feet wet while not dumping thousands of dollars on gear.
Only one question there: does this setup turn the video into 3D virtual reality once you put it on the google cardboard/Oculus/whatever? Or does it just screen a 2D 360degree video in which you can turn your head around?
Hello there! I am Serena. I am curious that if the video will be interactive as I want to try to create an online VR Chinese class. Please let me know your suggestion!
Hi. How are you. I have a question for you. I dont have alot money. Im thinking about gopro4. You think it work on 4? Or i need a newest gopro version. Also the app you used to edit video. It is work for the 4th generation?
Awesome video...looking forward to an advanced workflow video. Maybe on how to create backgrounds in After Effects in 360, how to place graphics, etc. Cheers!
Have you tried shooting using different GoPro's? (Hero3+ Black and Hero 4) Would it mess up everything, or are they so similar you won't tell the difference? Thanks
How you doing? We are trying to build 360 degree VR tours for various hospitals / clinics here in South Africa. Is it at all possible to build this into the application (to be available for view from the library) and is there a license fee that needs to be paid to have the 360 degree video available in the oculus application?
Great setup but expensive for someone looking to see if they are going to like it. Do you have a recommended setup using free or cheap software and a less expensive 360 camera setup? Thanks.
Well, I think the Samsung 360 cam for about 300 bucks is probably the best bet there. Pretty great little camera. That comes with stitching software. Pretty easy to use.
Hi Rob, great video thank you - we are currently looking at the omni rig from go pro - but I am also very interested in the blue rig you have shown, could you give me details on where i can get my hands on this?
Mate absolutely fantastic video pal. REALLY helpful for me. I going to invest in the 6 go pro rig do you think this is still a good Idea or should I get something else ?? or wait for something new to come out. ?? Thanks again. Hamish
+Hamish Cross - I really do think the 6 gopro rig is the easiest and most useful one to start. You can always bump it up to fancier rigs later - like the 15 gopro rig. But, unless you have a bunch of clients lined up that want it, I'm not sure it's worth it.
Hi Rob, this video was a huge help for helping me get started into the 360sphere, but I seem to be running into a single hiccup. The metadata injector that Google links to for uploading to RUclips doesn't seem to be the same one you are using in this video anymore. It only allows me to add metadata for stereoscopic 3d video. Any tips?
Hmmm. I may have to research it a bit to see if anything has changed. I suggest doing a Google search specifically for RUclipss advice. They probably have a help page on it.
I made a short pixel animation in aseprite, edited in premiere pro and uploaded here. For whatever reason it got this VR effect, although it looks unconfortably claustrophobic. How did that accident happen?
That was very informative. Good information. This gives us a stepping stone as to the things we need. Thanks for sharing. The 360 world is in its infant stage. You have the set up to capitalize on it. Its hard to find a lot of 360 videos and some are to grainy and blurry to appreciate.

Awesome video! Subscribed to your channel. Learnt a lot. Just one question - Can this setup of cameras be used to provide real-time virtual reality? I mean if I am shooting a live video and I want my viewers to have a 360 degree or 3D view, will this camera setup work fine? If not what additional gadgets would I need? I am assuming that I have already calibrated and synced all my four cameras prior to the start of my live shoot. Thanks in advance.
Well, it's not a great setup for LIVE shooting. I suggest an all-in-one camera like 360fly.com/ or something that shoots with one lens. That way you don't need to stitch it. See more here: www.untamedscience.com/filmmaking/advanced-filmmaking/360-degree-video-guide/
+KJParfekt - You're right. It's still a bit tricky, but not too bad. If you want to get in at a lower cost though, there are several options under 500 dollars. I have all of them in this article: www.untamedscience.com/filmmaking/advanced-filmmaking/360-degree-video-guide/
Hi Mr. Rob Nelson, thank you for this. I would like to ask if it is possible to create a 360 video without actually filming? See, I'm doing this project where I need to surround the viewer with floating video clips, like a sort of 360 video collage. Any thoughts? details: I actually built a hexagonal enclosure and projected the video collages on 5 walls to surround the viewer. Since I can't just merely install the room anywhere, I'm gonna have to consider using this medium.
You can. Of course. You'll probably need to do it in AE though. I haven't done a tutorial on that but you might want to search around a bit for VR in AE. Good luck with it!
I'll save everyone some time...
Step 1: Spend $3,000!
@Terry 20 you: ive only 10 dollars
Me:I'VE 5 DOLALRS YOUR RICH
I have 0 bucks :(
I have -1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 dollars :(
Terry 20 I have 21! >:D
@Terry20 lol
So all we need is a $500 stand to hold $2000 worth of GoPro cameras as well as a $500 software :)
Exactly lol.
yeah lol, very expensive
Nope. All you need is $600 and you buy a 360Fly 4K camera.

It's 2 years later. What's the cost of this tech now?
Thanks!
1% cheaper

Can you stream 360 degrees videos live on RUclips?
Great vid! Lots of info packed into those 18 minutes. No wasted moments or digression. Well done!
Oh...he's rich. That explains why 3000 dollars is "cheap".
Great video. 5 years ago hope your doing good. Great presentation. 📡👽🇺🇸 I SEE EVERYTHING NOW.
Great video. Thanks for being generous and sharing your knowledge and experience. Great teaching style.
Thank you so much! You very clearly explained how -the mystery that 360 video/VR can be- works. I wish more people knew how to explain things like this!
Well done! My first intro video on this great technique. Clear and easy to follow.
Very impressive! I like the idea that this gives everyone the ability to watch 3D videos without those pair of 3D glasses. Amazing!
+Creative North - Agreed. That's why I(we) think that this is going to catch on a bit better than 3D did.
+Creative North this is 360 not 3d
great video & tons of information well explained. Thanks guys... keep doing the good work ✌🏻
Always very complete!! Thanks for all the tips! Someday it will be necessary to use :)

Quick question. In settings, you choose 1440 instead of 2.7K 4:3. Any reason for that?
Thanks for the video. Answered so many of my questions.

This video is too good for youtube ! I never saw an explanation as good as yours!
Hey buddy thanks for the awesome introduction to 360, is there a way to stream this live? Just curious for a project.
Super ahead of your time!! You're absolutely brilliant. Thanks for sharing this with the world

Great summary & tutorial! Thanks!
Hello there! I am Serena. I am curious that if the video will be interactive as I want to try to create an online VR Chinese class. Please let me know your suggestion!
郁文卿 depends what u mean by interactive - real interactivity such as Doom VR needs another workflow.
Awesome tutorial! Love the old mac keyboard haha. I'm using one now. They just won't die.
Thx for creating the informative vid👍 very organized walk-thru!
thanks you so much for excellent video. i want to know about the name of that app you mention to bring the data back
Great video! A resource I will definitely come back to. Thank you!
Is it possible to combine standard video and VR video in one video file? Like a modern version of "put on your 3D glasses now"?
Thank you for this. Making life easier. Fun to watch if you like this sort of thing.
I wonder if we could just warp the video with adobe software and upload it ... Gonna try that

Hi I have a question, what if we don't want to see the person holding the GoPros, is that possible to do without being in the frame ? Thanks
Nice, I learned a lot. But is this VR? I was thinking that you need 1 cam for each eye to do VR film...
it is vr video there are different types, the ones that uses 1 cam for each eye is know as 3d 360 or stereoscopic one camera is monoscopic
YOU'RE AWESOME!!!! THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO LEARNING HOW TO DO THIS. MANY BLESSINGS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
Great thank you very much. Made quite clear and makes a lot of sense.
Thank you very much for this information! Great for you to share - wanted to learn more about the topic. You explain the process very well.
What about for the video?
Like for example the lego Movie 2 music video 360? How
You made it look so easy! I think I will duct tape 6 GoPros and try to do a 360° video for my band's live session!
Thanks for the video. Now with Google Daydream being released I think this kind of media is going to explode.

Why not getting 4k 360fly much cheaper and easy and faster than 6 GoPro ?
