Really appreciate the positive vibes that you instill in your videos. Came across your videos at random, and I am glad that I did. I feel as though watching your videos have made an improvement in my gameplay. Thanks and I'll keep watching what you post in the future.
Hey Skyline! Got to say in my opinion you have the most useful and interesting Overwatch content! Love the map mastery videos they are some of my favorites! Keep up the great videos!
Thanks so much for the video! I'm loving this series! I'd love to see Eichenwald next! A note about point A attack on Hanamura in slightly lower rank: Junkrat will make taking the right path nearly impossible. That room instantly becomes a death room, and usually Symmetra likes to post up in there too. I know Junkrat isn't super popular in higher rank, but on lower and especially on console, he's almost always there. I constantly see people feed Junk/Symm by walking in there. Also, lower rank defense teams like to put Bastion/Torb on the actual point which makes that room even worse. Left path is the way to go if you notice any of these things. TL;DR Junkrat/Symmetra makes the right path on point A a nightmare on lower rank.
what about holding the door at point A?? This is what i see 99% of the time. I feel like if you stand on the balcony you let them push through the choke for free.
Skyline I'm golden solo queue, and I doubt I'll be able to use the this (great video though), because noone takes the high ground. Almost everyone stand right in front of the choke on point 1, and it can really be a pain to get around the corner, when there's a Reinhardt smacking you, while you get hooked and then frosen. So it's not as simple as just going around. It's probably weaker to stand there, so awesome strategies might not be nessecary. But I feel like it is stronger to simply stand where the choke is (same reason as the guy above)
Sup! this is the first video i watch from you and all i can say is thank you! Its a very well good video worth watching. I hope to find more videos like this, ive not checkd yet.
I wish I could go higher but your vids have helped a former console peasant climb 600 rank the last month, never having a single day with more losses than wins. Thanks m8
Hey there. When defending point one, I like to play soldier and run to the top of the building on top of the attacking players' side choke-point and just aggro them from behind. I see a lot of attacking teams like to run a Reinhardt to try and push the push the gate, so it's a really good way of making him turn around. It also gives you a good shot at their Mercy or Ana from high ground. I find it's a pretty ballsy move that opponents wouldn't expect. The trick is to pop out, pop shots and then pop pack in again before they realise where you're shooting from (Pop, Pop, Pop). You have a good advantage of being able to run around on the bridges as well, but be careful of your enemies' spawn times, because it's killer if they catch you on the bridge from behind. Soldier is good for this as well because he can make a quick getaway if D.Va boosts up to shift you, but I can see Genji, tracer and Sombra being useful as well if you want to achieve a lower DPS in the position in favor of an easier getaway. The objective isn't really getting the kills, but disorienting the attacking players, making them turn around and second-guess their back. It's also an early game stalling tactic, because unfortunately if you loose this vantage point, it's very hard to get it back.
@Skyline, Awesome video as always. I would love some insights on defending as a flanker. This would preferably not be map specific, but if you could take the time when your Volskaya video comes out that would be awesome. Stuff like where to stand, when to engage and who to target.
That side path to the second point is my route of choice, though as a D.VA main, it's possible to fly direct from the first point to the outdoor area, rather than having to go through the choke point first. Of course, very few heroes can do this, but it's useful for getting there faster, or catching the opponents by surprise as you don't have to first enter their kill zone to flank behind them.
How do you deal with a junkrat on the right high ground on point 2 (by right I mean the one closest to the cliff). I saw chro (master junkrat) do it and he says it's just best to ignore him up there
I'm really enjoying this series - it helps to visualise what's going on so much more. Also, Nepal next please - my pals and I lose regularly on it, and it seems like winning is dreadfully random...
Hi Skyline, I really enjoyed your video! I had a question about the approach discussed in the first few minutes. There were two approaches discussed to clear the right half of the map. In one strategy, you take the bottom road and are able to clear the gated cover area, and in the second you are able to clear the high ground and building. However, at 5:02, you say you can complexly ignore the right half, but you never cleared the gate as you did in the first approach. I just thought it was worth mentioning; thanks for the video, very informative overall.
Actually, you can. I tried it and it's actually very easy. If the whole team stands on the elevated platform beside the window, then Mei puts an ice wall vertically towards the window, then everyone can run and jump to it :D
Good idea. Seen it done before but it takes a lot of coordination and communication. Its really easy to screw up if mei slightly misplaces the wall or teammates get left behind. A better idea is to use the offensive mei to put a wall perpendicular to the choke point to block the defensive mei wall, allowing the offensive team to push through the choke. It provides a little extra cover from high ground enemies on the left, and the whole team can push the right path that was mentioned in the video.
Yeah, iostux mentions that in his video guide to hanamura. But as he says, it's just really hard to coordinate in solo queue. I think Sky's solution is a lot more realistic.
For point B, another way to get to the "under" route is from the left side of point A. You have to go over a gap though, and only a few heroes can go over it. I know that D'Va, Pharah, and a Mercy who is following them can make the jump. Sombra and Reaper can teleport across. I believe that Tracer can blink across and I assume Reinhardt can use his boosters to go across, though I've never personally tried. It's definitely a shorter way to get there from point A or from the offensive spawn. See this guide for how to get across: ruclips.net/video/AZpK7B-gaYs/видео.html
Great video, I've known about that super secret point B lowground path, but habit is a tricky thing and I never try it. Maybe try covering Numbani in the future, I think attacking teams get hung up about the top left path to the capture point much like people try to force top right on Hanamura point B.
I never knew about that little map tech trick, being able to climb that wall or shoot over it, I have never seen it used...ever, during the entire time I have been playing Overwatch(from open beta, then from launch onwards). I really need to just start up a custom game and explore the maps more. The whole video is pretty good, but honestly, that last little tidbit was the most valuable for me, granted it isn't always usable, but simply knowing about that is very valuable if I have the chance to make good use of it.(Or so I am aware of it if the enemy decides to use it)
Skyline, at around 24:00, you show that Pharah can boost up and shoot over the wall, however she can't fly over it because of an invisible wall. Would a Roadhog hook be able to hook her through the invisible wall?
My favorite map trick on Hanamura is Mei on Attack. The first point can allow your entire team to go through the flank route. The team has to be very coordinated but If coordinated it will totally surprise the enemy defense.
Soldier: 76 can actually rocket jump over that secret wall mentioned at 23:20. Done that myself. Allows for some nice escapes and gives an access to Symmetra's stuff hidden behind.
The problem I have at low diamond on Hana A offense isn't fully answered by the video. Basically most of the enemies defend on the lowground right at the chokepoint. This makes it really hard to run past because you're right next to them. The obvious thing to do is just fight them. But if they also have a Mei and you try to walk into them right in front of choke and fight, wall splits up your team. Any suggestions?
One map-specific hero thing that I see many people doing wrong (imo) on point a def is to put soldier on the high ground on the right (by window) but not rocket jump on the roof. The roof is just 10 times better as you also have high-ground against the window and you are really just a pain up there (unless enemy team goes right like you said but then you can still just jump down, nothing lost)
17:00 its hard to get there if you have 3-4 teammates crossing straight over the gap and your hero cant (Ana and Hog for an example). if you try to fight your way there, you're at a numbers disadvantage and die. when solo queuing (on console) its hard/impossible to get anyone to listen if you're asking to all go in together as a team.
great tip at 24 mins about Pharah sneaking in a few shots. I'm guessing she could probably use her knockback to throw unsuspecting attackers into the killbox/lava zone for her teammates to finish off too.
The problem with point B "under" is that there's going to be (like you said) two heroes directly above the bridge that will shoot you directly on the top of the head as you try to go down. Rein can't shield both the upper right platform and the high ground directly above the bridge.
Mei on attack instead of a McCree (same amount of damage in Mei's right click to a McCree shot). First point, just go into top building and use your Mei wall vertically to go *over* the Mei wall of the enemy with the entire team. Second point, you can use your Mei wall to immediately get to the area you deemed so powerful :)
If Mei walls you off and you book it thru the right room (like Skyline suggested) you get fried by turrets 90pct of the time. Best way I've found to take point A is by having 2 or 3 flank using the window (genji, dva, tracer) and head left and around to behind the point... play some footsie with cover... and stay alive. Causes the defenders to fall back to the point and your other half of team can meet up with you going thru mid. Other option: Attack Mei uses diagonal wall into right room and proceed as normal.
I like when the entire defending team go and choke the attacking team at their spawning room (game arcade). One time we managed to kill 3 rounds of attack, before retreating and defending on the gravel area. Match just lasted 5 mins. ON DEFEND B you are not taking on account the re-spawn room behind the dojo, Orisa can set a shield with a Bastion and can defend that point for a really long time.
Hey Skyline can you do Volkskaya next? I played a really interesting match on it today where the enemy defended the first point on the high ground instead of on the choke and it took us 4 tries before we could displace them. One of the most fun matches I've had in a long time.
Can you do a video about dealing with spammy defences on chokes? Another idea is about when to engage as defender (quite like you did with the self Mei VOD). Stuff like 2nd Hanamura point when Rein leaves the high ground to contest or 1st point ofRoute 66 when you need to leave the cafe roof and contest
I feel like 2cp maps are the roughest maps for most players. Perhaps a Volskaya guide? I also have trouble with KOTH maps, with what the team should be doing at the start, or how to retake points without pure brute force.
Actual tech tip that only the pros use but that's still viable in solo queue: You can shoot the space murloc right next to attackers' spawn and it will blarghlwarghl for you!
On point 1, at least at my rank, most Rein's just put their shield up directly at the choke. I wonder if that's strictly worse than either choosing the left or the right side?
Hey skyline you didn't talk about the area on the second point just outside of defence spawn. I see torbs and such camping there all the time and the wall in the middle is a place people sometimes head to for cover. Its strange that you didn't mention this at all..?
what about the little spot up high on point A where people like d.va pharah and lucio can sit on and get another angle on attackers going left through choke.
Sky I've only had this happen a few times but when pushing the normal high ground and its been covered by a Mei I've seen people switch to Mei themselves and just put a wall in-front of her before she walls and then rush the enemies 6v5 before killing the Mei as the others re-spawn or just staggering her
I've been having a bit of trouble floating between plat and diamond so I've bee thinking of playing more Mei purely because she can effectively "kill" someone for 5+ seconds before she actually needs to think of killing them or just letting the rest of the team do it. P.S OMG YOU ACTUALLY REPLIED
I wish he had mentioned if you cap the first point very well and have a lot if fast charaters you can lucio speedboost through mid right on to the point and get them while the aren't setup
Just had a random thought... Imagine in future patches we could have map destruction?.. Instead of trying to go through Hanamura's attack choke door, the attacking team could attack the wall/door to the left of it. Then eventually have two doors open so it inst so choke like?
What app do you use to draw over your screen? I remember having a similar one for my laptop a few months ago, but I just built this computer, and I don't remember what it's called.
On point B you never mentioned the defending team holding at their spawn. Oftentimes I'll push in with my team, but with some of the enemies having high ground in the "good spot" and the others at their spawn, we get attacked from too many angles.
i actually really like hanamura, its my favourite map, personally i dont find it too bad, there are some clever plays you could do as different hereos (sadly i seldom get it in comp)
Em Leingod generally Pharah will obliterate any defense that isn't a very good/pocketed widowmaker or bastion. Try combing concussive blast and rocket pack in order to jump over the building to the left with the large health kit, and then try to take out enemy supports dps and static defenses.
I wonder how well it would work to just boost the entire team up do the small window on point A with an ice wall.. immediately hop over and you probably have your entire team behind enemy lines before they realize what's going on :)
volskaya next. get the 2cp done
Really appreciate the positive vibes that you instill in your videos. Came across your videos at random, and I am glad that I did. I feel as though watching your videos have made an improvement in my gameplay. Thanks and I'll keep watching what you post in the future.
I love this series Skyline! I would appreciate a Volskaya Industries guide as that is one I can never seem to crack on offense.
Thank you, Skyline. Been waiting for good, visual map guides since release.
can we get having this video watched be a requirement for playing comp
The "death zone" in the center is a rock garden. The more you know =)
19:12 "Have like a Mei, or a Soldier, or a McCree"
Or a Mickey Mouse.
Hey Skyline! Got to say in my opinion you have the most useful and interesting Overwatch content! Love the map mastery videos they are some of my favorites! Keep up the great videos!

Loving these map guide videos so far - keep it up Skyline!
I will forever support these kinds of quality content
Thanks Skyline, enjoy your videos and definitely find these 2CP maps to be most challenging on solo queue. Love to see Volskaya next.
Sup! this is the first video i watch from you and all i can say is thank you! Its a very well good video worth watching. I hope to find more videos like this, ive not checkd yet.
I wish I could go higher but your vids have helped a former console peasant climb 600 rank the last month, never having a single day with more losses than wins. Thanks m8
I've never thought of the pathway on point 2 you suggested. Will definitely try that in the next few days. Thanks for the tips :)
Dude, your videos are my favorite. Keep it up please!
These map guys are awesome, really help a careless player like myself

Holy hecc your channel is growing fast good job
Great vid as aslways, a lot of things i didn't know, thank you!

See this guide for how to get across: ruclips.net/video/AZpK7B-gaYs/видео.html
Lucio can get across as well wall riding though it can be a bit tricky to pull off, and though I dont play genji much I think he can as well
Tom DelRosario Zarya can do it via double grenade jump
Great video, I've known about that super secret point B lowground path, but habit is a tricky thing and I never try it. I see you on every Skyline video. You should be 4 or 5 Medals. Just 1 medal is nub
I really like your Map guides keep it up m8 :)

curi Flank through Window touch the point shoot them in the back a little ->they turn around ->your team has an advantage
A bastion used near the van would melt an ice wall in about 1-2 sec. Not an ideal choice for the rank but maybe you could use it.
One map-specific hero thing that I see many people doing wrong (imo) on point a def is to put soldier on the high ground on the right (by window) but not rocket jump on the roof. Other option: Attack Mei uses diagonal wall into right room and proceed as normal.
Hey Skyline, what program are you using to draw on your screen?
IPunk0814 looks like the program epicpen. I hope you still needed this a year later :)
I like when the entire defending team go and choke the attacking team at their spawning room (game arcade). Can you do Volskaya Industries next please? Great and useful video, keep these coming
What do you do if point A has a Mei wall and Symmetra has turned the building into a 6 turret laser car wash?
3:18 whoever designed Hanamura is a genius ;)
Hey Skyline can you do Volkskaya next? I played a really interesting match on it today where the enemy defended the first point on the high ground instead of on the choke and it took us 4 tries before we could displace them. One of the most fun matches I've had in a long time.
On B, people also hold on the ledge near spawn directly behind the point.
SO HELPFUL!!! Thank you!!!
Can you do Ilios please?
Can you do a video about dealing with spammy defences on chokes?
Another idea is about when to engage as defender (quite like you did with the self Mei VOD). Stuff like 2nd Hanamura point when Rein leaves the high ground to contest or 1st point ofRoute 66 when you need to leave the cafe roof and contest
I'm assuming you'll do Volskaya next, but if you continue doing the map series, could you please do Oasis?
ayy a skyline video :D
Guy who wishes he could kill all of humanity your name makes me very happy. It's good to know that I'm not alone
Emo Weebs
spoilers, skyline is a part of humanity... if you killed him doggo would be sad :C
rip doggo ;cc
The amount of arrows in the thumbnail is promising
The super 360 crazy circle of death
Eichanwalde please i really have trouble with that one
I feel like 2cp maps are the roughest maps for most players. Perhaps a Volskaya guide? I also have trouble with KOTH maps, with what the team should be doing at the start, or how to retake points without pure brute force.
Would you do Nepal? Love your videos!
Actual tech tip that only the pros use but that's still viable in solo queue:
You can shoot the space murloc right next to attackers' spawn and it will blarghlwarghl for you!
Its strange that you didn't mention this at all..?
i'd REALLY like to see oasis next
Please do numbani after volskaya cos I have no idea where the best place to defend/attack is.
what about the little spot up high on point A where people like d.va pharah and lucio can sit on and get another angle on attackers going left through choke.
Volskaya next please? That second point is absolute misery on attack, and I have to admit I can't figure out how to do it.
Great video, do Volskaya next.
most heroes can actually make the hanamura jump. everyone can on Lucio boost. what do you think about this way of approach?
Sky I've only had this happen a few times but when pushing the normal high ground and its been covered by a Mei I've seen people switch to Mei themselves and just put a wall in-front of her before she walls and then rush the enemies 6v5 before killing the Mei as the others re-spawn or just staggering her

how do you attack point 2 if the enemy team is just above it toward their spawn? I see a lot of bastions setting up there.
Nath L that's not gonna happen
You forgot to mention the little "trick jump" from the small house outside of point B into the left side (attacker's POV) balcony
Tips for dealing with a Symmetra hiding in the first point building?
What app do you use to draw over your screen? I remember having a similar one for my laptop a few months ago, but I just built this computer, and I don't remember what it's called.
thanks! :D
On point B you never mentioned the defending team holding at their spawn. Oftentimes I'll push in with my team, but with some of the enemies having high ground in the "good spot" and the others at their spawn, we get attacked from too many angles.
Can you do Ilios next?
What do you use to draw on your videos?
My wish for the next map is Illios. I want to know about how to defend the points best, especially for support.
i actually really like hanamura, its my favourite map, personally i dont find it too bad, there are some clever plays you could do as different hereos (sadly i seldom get it in comp)
Eichenwalde! Torb Symm first point def is so hard to counter on this map ):
you need to push quick before sym gets ULT and you will decimate
Em Leingod generally Pharah will obliterate any defense that isn't a very good/pocketed widowmaker or bastion. Try combing concussive blast and rocket pack in order to jump over the building to the left with the large health kit, and then try to take out enemy supports dps and static defenses.
sky you are a godsend you know that right?
Can you get through the window in the begining with a Mei wall?
1:15
Not true, Sky! Mei can ice wall the entire team through here if she places it on a pebble below the opening.
I think that falls into the "special strategy" category that he talked about. It can work but generally isn't useful for soloq-type situations.
You'd be surprised by how often these kinds of tricks work if you give your team a pep-talk first :)
Volskaya and Oasis please. Those are ones I have a really hard time on. (Usually always a defeat, unless carried.)
Please do Drawskaya next.
At first choke they anticipate the leftward run and put up symm turrets, first person thru gets microwaved while the rest of the team is walled off.
500 levels and I had not idea about those wall jumps you show at 23:00 onwards >
I wonder how well it would work to just boost the entire team up do the small window on point A with an ice wall.. immediately hop over and you probably have your entire team behind enemy lines before they realize what's going on :)
You can also get to the outside area with mobility heroes.
Can you please do Dorado next?
Love you Skyline
