You guys need to see the live version. She was vocally amazing! In the live, she sings to her daughter, Mya Rudolph and I believe she goes even higher!
Definitely the live version. Her husband playing the guitar, just beautiful. ,. Her daughter is Mya Rudolph, the comedians. At the end of this song. She speaks her name. Mya Mya mya
She had a whistle register which is rare. On the live version at the end she repeats Maya, Maya actually her newborn which became Maya Rudolph on Saturday night Live. Loved the song back mid 70s still do. An incredible voice, beautiful song.
That’s Maya Rudolph’s, the comedians who used to be on SNL, that’s her mom. The original extended version of this tune has Minnie saying Maya, Maya, Mya at the end of the song 👍🙏🙏
Asia and BJ, that was a beautiful reaction and really enjoyed your comments. I remembered when this came out in the 70's and it just blew everybody's mind🤯 And she did it so effortlessly. What a beautiful and wonderfully gifted artist.❤
Classic slow dance tune in my youth, in England. Love. Love. Love. Like so many artists back then, she just stood in front of the mic (fully clothed) and let her talent do the sexy work 😉
@@tonyguarascio4901 Yes, that's why she says "Maya Maya" at the end of the song.a "“Lovin' You” was originally written as a lullaby to one-year-old Maya and her brother Marc, so that Riperton and her husband could spend time together, living as a young couple in Gainesville, Florida. At the end of the LP version, you can hear Minnie singing “Maya, Maya.”"
How do I love trivia that's awesome I did not even have a remote idea that Maya Rudolph's mother was Minnie Riperton. Thank you thank you very much I love that stuff. I think the only singer that I could think of off the top of my head that could pull that off honestly besides many would B Mariah Carey. I think she could hit the soft part and I know she could hit that high note. But Maya that's awesome
I was 17 when I first heard this. I'm 64 now and still love it. Beautiful voice and beautiful lady who died far too soon in her early 30's. Great reaction as always guys. Thank you and best wishes from the UK.

My #1 favorite song of all time. This is what I think of when I look for love again. This is hands down the most beautiful love song of all time and the most played at weddings.
Beautifully sincere reaction. As others have written here, the Fender Rhodes electric piano was played by Stevie Wonder, who arranged the Perfect Angel album that this song came from. I still have the album that I bought when it came out in 1974, with its amazing credits, which listed "Fender Rhodes Piano: El Toro Negro" (Stevie Wonder's alter ego as "the black bull", which he had to use for contractual reasons) followed by "Mockingbird: God," which is how he credited the source of the background call.
when i was in high school i was on the track team and this was our favorite song to sing on the bus...imagine 20 guys trying to pull this off..it was brutal...
Miss Minnie Riperton was Beyond Wonderful, Her Octave Range was easily @ 5-7! She was also in a group called Rotary Connection. Two of my favorite songs from her are "Expecting" & "Les Fleurs". They also take me to another place in time. She passed away much too soon. RIPP 👑
This song was written and produced by the great Stevie Wonder. The song went all the way to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the early spring of 1975. Minnie's vocal range is between the 5-7 octave scale. By the way, Minnie's daughter is the great comic actress, Maya Rudolph. This song is a definitely a beautiful song indeed!!!
I Remember Hereing This Song When It Frist Came Out Back In 1975 I Was 8 This Beautiful Song Was All Over The Radio Back In The Day Beautiful Song Beautiful Lady Rest In Peace Beautiful Minnie
I used to be able to hit that high note when I was younger. Not anymore unfortunately due to age and too many years of smoking. I loved Minnie because she was one of the few in my 1st soprano vocal range. My ability to hit those high notes are one of the reasons my choir teacher wanted me to study opera. Unfortunately there was no way my family could afford that kind of training even in the early 80's.
“Inside my Love” should be on your list next…NO ONE has exhibited the “control”, the ability to hold a note, the whistle register like our angel Minnie💜🙏🏽🕊️
Minnie Julia Riperton Rudolph was born in Chicago on November 8, 1947. Soul, R&B and Rock singer, she became very famous for the 1975 single "Lovin' You". was an important name in the civil rights movement and one of the voices in breast cancer awareness. In January 1976, Riperton was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a radical mastectomy. By the time of diagnosis, the cancer had spread and she was given about 6 months to live. Despite the bleak prognosis, she continued recording and touring. Riperton was one of the first celebrities to go public with her breast cancer diagnosis, but did not reveal that she was terminally ill. She passed away a few years later, but left her mark on music history. Her hot voice will be eternal ....
This was one of the songs that my mom used to listen to while cleaning the house or cooking. Happily taking care of her family with a smile on her face and a song in her heart. Good memories.
Yes if you haven't already watched Minnie perform this song live on The Midnight Special 1975 it is a must watch to see her soulful, loving expressions perfectly match the beauty of her voice and the music. It's one of those perfect performances that can put a person in an altered almost hypnotic state!
Minnie was such a sweet lady. Cancer took her away way to soon. I got her album when it first came out and fell in love with her singing. There are lots of good songs on that album.
I feel you guys. A beautiful voice a beautiful girl a haunting song combined to make one of the greatest classics of the golden 70s. Magnificent performance here she did. Unbeknownst to Minnie Riperton, she unintendedly established the gold standard on which future "whistle-blowers" who wish to cover the song will be measured.
Every girl wished they could hit those ear-slitting notes from this absolutely beautiful song. I was just young enough to have never been fully aware of what cancer was until I heard that she was dead, and only in her early 30’s. It made me scared that my Mom would die soon because she was already 45. But, besides this ever popular song, Minnie Riperton gave us Mya Rudolph. Such an amazingly talented family.
This was an anthem when I was a kid. Like Minnie sings about growing old together and you two are going to grow old together and the world will be a better place because of it!
You should see the live extended version "midnight special" No singer ever hit a (REGISTER NOTE) as effortlessly, pure and unique as she dose. OUTSTANDING!!!!
I remember the day she died. My boyfriend back then, called me on the phone and said. “Baby, she’s gone.” He didn’t even say who; I knew. We were both BIG fans! She has so many more songs. Try “Inside My Love.” ❤️🔥
All you lovebirds who find that one and commit to tying the knot, remember to.... 'live each day in the springtime' and it'll be alright. Don't be distracted by simple human faults -- it's a trap. You've been blessed from Above and you owe it to Him to honor those vows.

And at the dance, when they played the song I held her closer and whispered it in her ear. She was my girlfriend for the rest of the year until she moved away. I never saw her again. But the memory remains. Another suggestion, DISCO ROUND by Alicia Bridges. Enjoy
Love your reactions. Funny when I hear this song I always think about the song "Dueling Banjos" since those two songs were the popular songs played almost hourly on AM radio. Haha
My Minnie Riperton story is this. Years ago I, and my Brothers, and Cousins, attended Black Expo at the International Amphitheatre in Chicago. We were of only a handful of White folks who were there. It was where I first learned of Apartheid in South Africa, and we all signed a petition against it. There were also Playboy Playmates signing pictures.
