Every time I hear her sing “Stay with me while we grow old,” I cry a little.
So sad that she never got to do so.
Me too!! 😢
You guys need to see the live version. She was vocally amazing! In the live, she sings to her daughter, Mya Rudolph and I believe she goes even higher!
Definitely the live version. Her husband playing the guitar, just beautiful. ,. Her daughter is Mya Rudolph, the comedians. At the end of this song. She speaks her name. Mya Mya mya
It's not the live version, it's a extended studio vesion
@@craigreed1638 the version I'm talking about is live on the Midnight Special 1975.
Definitely do the live version. some of the notes she hits are incredible
You are correct! Just watched that for the first time today (03-28-23), and it was AMAZING 🤯💗💓!
A great lady who left us too soon...R.I.P Minnie...An all time great voice.
A once in a lifetime vocal talent, human songbird. 🙏🔥🥰
That’s Maya Rudolph’s, the comedians who used to be on SNL, that’s her mom. The original extended version of this tune has Minnie saying Maya, Maya, Mya at the end of the song 👍🙏🙏
This Lady had a fantastic voice range.
She had a whistle register which is rare. On the live version at the end she repeats Maya, Maya actually her newborn which became Maya Rudolph on Saturday night Live. Loved the song back mid 70s still do. An incredible voice, beautiful song.
Minnie Riperton is a TREASURE!
RIP Minnie Ripperton, a lovely song!
Died too young unfortunately. This was a major (hippie) hit in the 70s. What an amazing voice.
Actress Maya Rudolph's mother who died when she was very young. At the end,she lovingly says Maya's name.
Classic slow dance tune in my youth, in England. Love. Love. Love. Like so many artists back then, she just stood in front of the mic (fully clothed) and let her talent do the sexy work 😉
Two weeks ago a woman sang this at karaoke and actually nailed the high notes. 😲
Minnie Riperton is the queen 👑 of the whistle tone ❤
She made “whistle” notes famous.
Asia and BJ, that was a beautiful reaction and really enjoyed your comments. I remembered when this came out in the 70's and it just blew everybody's mind🤯 And she did it so effortlessly. What a beautiful and wonderfully gifted artist.❤
Glad you enjoyed it
@@AsiaandBJ I enjoy you two!!!! More than.....
@@AsiaandBJ I did! Thanks again!
I was 17 when I first heard this. I'm 64 now and still love it. Beautiful voice and beautiful lady who died far too soon in her early 30's. Great reaction as always guys. Thank you and best wishes from the UK.
when i was in high school i was on the track team and this was our favorite song to sing on the bus...imagine 20 guys trying to pull this off..it was brutal...
I was 15 when Minnie left this world. 😢I remember it like it was yesterday, I was exposed to her music at around age 10 and she is one of my favorite singers of all time. He music send chills down your spine. If you’ve seen the Jordan Perl movie “Us” , that’s Minnie’s hit “Les Fleurs “ playing during the closing credits. I also love her songs “Seeing You This Way” and “Memory Lane” just to name a couple. Way too many great ones to list.
This has always been an amazing song. Her vocals are stunning.
Minnie is the Mom of Hollywood actress Maya Rudolph.
Did not know that! Thats a great trivia tidbit, as well as a beautiful song.
@@tonyguarascio4901 Yes, that's why she says "Maya Maya" at the end of the song.a "“Lovin' You” was originally written as a lullaby to one-year-old Maya and her brother Marc, so that Riperton and her husband could spend time together, living as a young couple in Gainesville, Florida. At the end of the LP version, you can hear Minnie singing “Maya, Maya.”"
How do I love trivia that's awesome I did not even have a remote idea that Maya Rudolph's mother was Minnie Riperton. Thank you thank you very much I love that stuff. I think the only singer that I could think of off the top of my head that could pull that off honestly besides many would B Mariah Carey. I think she could hit the soft part and I know she could hit that high note. But Maya that's awesome
@@Brandon-sw5ob chante moore could do it as well
Loved your reaction! She was a beautiful lady-taken from us much too soon. RIP Minnie.
The song is for her daughter Maya Rudolph.
That high note I'd called Whistle Register
Sadly, she died a couple of years from breast cancer after this song was released
Love Minnie's voice!
My #1 favorite song of all time. This is what I think of when I look for love again. This is hands down the most beautiful love song of all time and the most played at weddings.
Miss Minnie Riperton was Beyond Wonderful, Her Octave Range was easily @ 5-7! She was also in a group called Rotary Connection. Two of my favorite songs from her are "Expecting" & "Les Fleurs". They also take me to another place in time. She passed away much too soon. RIPP 👑
I Remember Hereing This Song When It Frist Came Out Back In 1975 I Was 8 This Beautiful Song Was All Over The Radio Back In The Day Beautiful Song Beautiful Lady Rest In Peace Beautiful Minnie
React to her singing this same song "live" on The Midnight Special show in 1975.🎤
The Song Bird. Thank you Stevie Wonder for sharing her voice with the ❤
This song was written and produced by the great Stevie Wonder. The song went all the way to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the early spring of 1975. Minnie's vocal range is between the 5-7 octave scale. By the way, Minnie's daughter is the great comic actress, Maya Rudolph. This song is a definitely a beautiful song indeed!!!
“Inside my Love” should be on your list next…NO ONE has exhibited the “control”, the ability to hold a note, the whistle register like our angel Minnie💜🙏🏽🕊️
I used to be able to hit that high note when I was younger. Not anymore unfortunately due to age and too many years of smoking. I loved Minnie because she was one of the few in my 1st soprano vocal range. My ability to hit those high notes are one of the reasons my choir teacher wanted me to study opera. Unfortunately there was no way my family could afford that kind of training even in the early 80's.
Beautifully sincere reaction. As others have written here, the Fender Rhodes electric piano was played by Stevie Wonder, who arranged the Perfect Angel album that this song came from. I still have the album that I bought when it came out in 1974, with its amazing credits, which listed "Fender Rhodes Piano: El Toro Negro" (Stevie Wonder's alter ego as "the black bull", which he had to use for contractual reasons) followed by "Mockingbird: God," which is how he credited the source of the background call.
Minnie Julia Riperton Rudolph was born in Chicago on November 8, 1947. Soul, R&B and Rock singer, she became very famous for the 1975 single "Lovin' You". was an important name in the civil rights movement and one of the voices in breast cancer awareness. In January 1976, Riperton was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a radical mastectomy. By the time of diagnosis, the cancer had spread and she was given about 6 months to live. Despite the bleak prognosis, she continued recording and touring. Riperton was one of the first celebrities to go public with her breast cancer diagnosis, but did not reveal that she was terminally ill. She passed away a few years later, but left her mark on music history. Her hot voice will be eternal ....
When ever I hear this song, I flash back to all the young girls who strange their throat trying to hit that note 🎶
❤ I walked down the isle to this Amazingly beautiful song. 😊. Gorgeous in every way.
This was one of the songs that my mom used to listen to while cleaning the house or cooking.
Happily taking care of her family with a smile on her face and a song in her heart.
Good memories.
Such a sweet, pure voice. It's a shame she passed at a young age.
When I hear this song it makes me feel that the world pauses for 4 minutes to hear the beauty of this song.
Awesome Singer 🎶🎵🎶
You should see the live extended version "midnight special" No singer ever hit a (REGISTER NOTE) as effortlessly, pure and unique as she dose. OUTSTANDING!!!!
My favorite song of hers is BACK DOWN MEMORY LANE, which was my mothers favorite.
I feel you guys. A beautiful voice a beautiful girl a haunting song combined to make one of the greatest classics of the golden 70s. Magnificent performance here she did. Unbeknownst to Minnie Riperton, she unintendedly established the gold standard on which future "whistle-blowers" who wish to cover the song will be measured.
What a wonderful gift from God , She is unbeatable!
Bought her album back when it was released but this was the treasure. 💫
Minnie was such a sweet lady. Cancer took her away way to soon. I got her album when it first came out and fell in love with her singing. There are lots of good songs on that album.
Minnie’s voice is a national treasure she once shattered wine glasses amazing
Beautiful voice and one of my favorite songs.
If you ever saw the movie Nutty Professor, this is the song Eddie Murphy and Reggie sings at the piano. “Reggie has left the building…”. Hilarious!
The LEGENDARY Iconic Mrs Minnie Riperton
Every girl wished they could hit those ear-slitting notes from this absolutely beautiful song. I was just young enough to have never been fully aware of what cancer was until I heard that she was dead, and only in her early 30’s. It made me scared that my Mom would die soon because she was already 45. But, besides this ever popular song, Minnie Riperton gave us Mya Rudolph. Such an amazingly talented family.
I remember the day she died. My boyfriend back then, called me on the phone and said. “Baby, she’s gone.” He didn’t even say who; I knew. We were both BIG fans! She has so many more songs. Try “Inside My Love.” ❤️🔥
Asia, your high note at about 3 48 was a c#6 according to my vocal pitch monitor app. ( very nice! ) minnie was around G6.
Rip Minnie. She was a beautiful songbird that inspired Mariah Carey, and died way too young
Asia & BJ, actress Maya Rudolph’s mom. I think only Mariah Carey can match her.
In some live versions she says 'Maya, Maya, Maya' at the end of the song.
Chante Moore can match her
@@senecaevans6156 thank you for the introduction to Chante Moore! Just watched her at the Soul Train Awards '22. She more than matched them!!!
May, I have this dance..(Class of 71)
Yes, her daughter is Maya Rudolf of SNL.
Wife here....., WOW WOW WOW..,I had no idea this was Mya Rudolph's MOM...BEAUTIFUL.., BEAUTIFUL SONG...You would do an AMAZING cover of this❤👍
Maybe next we could get you to react to a song that says it all. SHOW AND TELL by Al Wilson. I memorized this song in junior high school to sing to a girl to get her to go to a dance. She said, Yes. And at the dance, when they played the song I held her closer and whispered it in her ear. She was my girlfriend for the rest of the year until she moved away. I never saw her again. But the memory remains. Another suggestion, DISCO ROUND by Alicia Bridges. Enjoy
The lyrics alone make this song so beautiful !
Yes if you haven't already watched Minnie perform this song live on The Midnight Special 1975 it is a must watch to see her soulful, loving expressions perfectly match the beauty of her voice and the music. It's one of those perfect performances that can put a person in an altered almost hypnotic state!
Minnie has a great high pitched voice. So angelic :D
That voice could turn a nightmare into the sweetest dream!! 🎤🌹🌹🔥🔥🔥...................👌
Hye from France ! What a voice !!This song Written by Steevie wonder!!!
This song always brings back great memories!!
Aww, this was the song my husband wanted to be our wedding song! 🥰♥️
Except we ditched the big wedding idea and eloped to get married on the beach in the Bahamas by ourselves 🤣♥️
She is amazing...great reaction guys...thanks
My daughter loves to sing this song!
Just heard Loving You. I liked it back in the day. But just now I got goosebumps and tested up
This song is a sweet lullaby she sang to her daughter Maya Rudolph. Her voice is incredible, unfortunately she died in the seventies by cancer.
Timeless & Beautiful !!!!
Indeed!
Minnie Ripperton was an amazing talent and we lost her far too soon. You want more? Try "Perfect Angel" (but virtually everything she sings is magic).
Wow, Minnie was so beautiful.
Her voice could break glass. Her daughter is Maya Rudolph from Saturday night live
Awww❤️ I remember when we did this on the livestream... I'm smiling just remembering!!!😁❤️🔥 Thankyou Asia and BJ💯 Such a wonderful reaction to this song👏🔥🔥Loves Loves💞💞
FYI ... I sang it to hubby but when it came to "that part"... yeahhh nah!!! I left that to Minnie😘😂lol
lol Donna!!
Love your reactions. Funny when I hear this song I always think about the song "Dueling Banjos" since those two songs were the popular songs played almost hourly on AM radio. Haha
She was born in Chicago.Way before Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera, there was Minnie Riperton.Tony
This was an anthem when I was a kid. Like Minnie sings about growing old together and you two are going to grow old together and the world will be a better place because of it!
Loved this song forever❤❤❤❤
Written by her then husband Richard Rudolph and released in 1975. Actress/comedian Maya Rudolph is her daughter 💚🤙
it's hilarious in that Vacation movie where Beverly D'Angelo gets handed the mic to sing the high part of this song.
You gotta do Back Down Memory Lane by Minnie Riperton next, although Here We Go is my favorite by her (but lesser known).
I had several albums of Rotary Connection which she was in. I love Minnie, I had to buy this album. Jim
This reminds me of Wayne Newton singing this in the movie Vegas Vacation and he even includes the birds it was great if you get a chance to watch it.
RIP to a beautiful and talented woman. Gone too soon. 💔💋💔💋♥️💋♥️
All you lovebirds who find that one and commit to tying the knot, remember to.... 'live each day in the springtime' and it'll be alright. Don't be distracted by simple human faults -- it's a trap. You've been blessed from Above and you owe it to Him to honor those vows.
I saw her with Seals n Crofts probably 1975 ❤
You all honestly give it(reviews)! GOOD STUFF!
Beautiful voice, great reaction
this song was used in weddings back in the day
Breathtaking song.❤❤ i love Shanices' version as well!
LMAO when I heard her voice crack and your faces thru the first part (lol)!
As soon as I saw this drop, I had to listen. Fantastic song but it reminds me of y’all’s reaction to The Scorpions “Still Loving You”. Asia, when you sang this to BJ and he was looking at you like you were crazy cracked me up! BJ, now ya know! Great reaction🤓🤠❤️
Appreciate that
Search for old Mothers Day episode of SNL when Tina Fey was there. Maya Rudolph spoke of her mother.
I miss her so much.
an angelic voice think you would enjoy I only have eyes for you by the Flamingos
You should definitely check out her live performance of this song
I often try and get that note when I am driving. Never managed it yet.
Check out Leah Mcfalls version on The Voice UK.
