  • Sporting a distinctive chrome roof pillar, the 1955 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria added a touch of royalty to the road. This exclusive two-door coupe was a short-lived offering, gracing Ford's lineup for only 1955 and 1956.
1955 was a year when chrome gleamed brighter than ever, two-tone paint jobs ruled the road, and tailfins reached for the sky. Ford wasn't one to miss out on this design party. They entered the fray with the Fairlane line, a premium offering cruising alongside the legendary Thunderbird. But for those craving exclusivity within the Fairlane family, Ford tucked away a secret weapon - the Crown Victoria.
True to its name, the Crown Victoria borrowed prestige from Henry Ford's Dearborn estate. The Fairlane itself was a strategic move for Ford, venturing into the luxury car segment. It was a success story, propelling Ford to its best sales year in decades.
The Crown Victoria wasn't entirely new to Ford in 1955. It debuted as a luxurious variant of the Fairlane, adding a regal touch to the existing lineup. However, this reign was as fleeting as a shooting star. Offered exclusively as a two-door coupe in 1955 and 1956, the Crown Victoria would disappear for 24 years before making a grand return.
Powered by Ford's Y-block V8 engine, the Crown Victoria offered smooth performance to match its luxurious looks. Despite its brief reign, the 1955 Crown Victoria remains a unique footnote in Ford's history and a true collector's dream.

My favorite 56 Ford is the Country Sedan bc I rode across the USA in a new one. I also like a Canadian Ford version of the Crown Victoria, the 1956 Meteor Crown Victoria. I wouldn't turn down a 56 Meteor Sunliner convertible, either!

1955 was a bit early for tailfins... tailfins began to creep in by 1956 and reached for the sky in 1957. They were actually a pretty short trend, being almost totally gone by 1960, though the 1960 Plymouth Fury held onto them for that model year.
