    I’m appreciating this series increasingly every week. I was watching a lot of long-form EV content lately but I’ve gotten disinterested in that.

    • @MissGoElectric
      @MissGoElectric  18 дней назад +6

      The same happened to us. Miss GoElectric co-hosted a weekly host of a live one-hour+ Inside EVs podcast for most of 2023.
      It seems to me as if most EV news sources rely on sensationalism, opinion, politics, editorial, and conjecture to attract and retain attention.
      We created this show with the goal of offering higher information density, a focus on news which is most likely to have lasting impact on electrification, the addition of context, and extrapolation when possible.
      We always share our sources in the video description so that viewers can verify and deeper if they wish.
      Thank you for joining us!

      Thank you for your thoughtful feedback.
      We try to differentiate The Current from other EV news sources by adding significant context and projections where they are sensible. We think our secret sauce is a delicate mixture of concision and synthesis. Generally speaking, we try to avoid politics and emotional opining.
      As our name "Go Electric" implies, we are a pro-electrification outlet. We seek to normalize and bolster the transition to electric transport through exposure and education. Neutrality is the default, but there are other tools in the shed. Truth is paramount, and occasionally, we conclude that our audience benefits from a bit of editorial regarding certain topics.
      When our viewpoints change, it is usually the consequence of new information coming to light. We invite constructive discourse here in the comments section.

    Two things I LOVED about today's show -
    1 - That you prioritized your 10 minute format.
    2 - That you weren't uncomfortable about only reporting on a FEW STORIES. You sacrificed story count to give a major complex story a majority of the time and illustrated the complexity and importance of the MANY implications.
    You've just gained points with me over the MANY vehicle/EV news programs I consume.

      Former Nissan CEO Carlos Gohsn said Honda's acquisition would be a bailout disguised as a merger. We have found his insights to be historically potent. It sure is a complicated situation.

      We own a Cybertruck with PowerShare and an installed Gateway V3 to power our studio. Our first thought about this news was the energy arbitrage opportunity. I even considered upgrading from dual motor to CyberBeast to take advantage of it. There is a great deal of friction involved with that process because Tesla will not currently accept used Cybertrucks in trade.
      While the cost calculations do not work based on 2024 electricity prices and US dollar buying power, we suspect the value of unlimited supercharging will be staggering in 5-10 years.
      I have not sold my 2016 Model S for that very reason. It has *transferrable* unlimited supercharging.

    I have a question I've been trying to find out for almost a year... The range and battery recharge speed means nothing to me, since i drive only about 90 miles a day. For long trips i either take my ice or plan for the charge time. My cost is close to 3.5 cents a mile and the worst I've seen a few times is 8 cents a mile. Question: on long range cars cyber truck, Hummer EV, or any other, what's the average cost per mile to drive?

    • @MissGoElectric
      @MissGoElectric  18 дней назад

      In order to calculate cost per mile, drivers must understand the real and total cost of their energy as well as the actual efficiency of their EV.

      At any given time there are hundreds of class action lawsuits filed against automakers. Our society is absurdly litigious because attorneys profit most. Law firms seeking plaintiffs spend hundreds of millions of dollars advertising calamity and promising easy money. It can be very difficult to determine what is a problem and what is a parasitic attack.
      Generally speaking, we report on news which we think might alter the trajectory of the electrification of transportation. At this time, we are unaware of any ongoing and meaningful defects related to Hyundai Group EVs sold in the USA. They are currently the #2 automaker here by volume.
      I'll look into this to see if we've overlooked something meaningful.

    Another good episode! One correction re Hyundai NACS adaptor specs: @StateofCharge put out a video recently on this subject and his concerns that it is rated for fewer amps since the high voltage EGMP cars do not need it - one reason Kona owners are not getting one.

      As for the correction you've offered, I reject it. The Kona will be getting the adapter and we've shared the official press release from Hyundai Group issued this week. That document confirms our reporting.
      I understand that another RUclips channel might have different information, but we will stand by more recent declarations by the automaker.
      Regarding sub-400A upper limits on the adapter, we don't take issue with it. Safe and reliable support for thousands more locations is welcome. Technology marches on and new eGMP based vehicles will charge very quickly (~800V ~600A) with native NACS support at Tesla's upcoming V4 locations.

    Regarding the free Hyundai NACS adapter, Tom from State of Charge channel had a video about his concerns with the KIA adapter only being rated for 350A. (ruclips.net/video/Bns_sKbSdtY/видео.html) If the Hyundai adapter is the same, it sounds like people receiving it should be careful to only use it with 800V vehicles. Thoughts?

    • @MissGoElectric
      @MissGoElectric  18 дней назад +1

      Hyundai Group did not confirm technical parity between the Kia, Genesis, and Hyundai adapters. We try not to engage in speculation here, but it is a reasonable assumption that the adapters will have similar specifications.
      In the press release which we have linked (see our video description) Hyundai Group confirms that the Kona will also be receiving an adapter. That adapter might differ in accordance with K3 platform upon which pre-2025 Kona's are based. The 2025 Kona is based on eGMP.
      We think a 350A max on the adapter is acceptable. Today's active Tesla Superchargers *could* technically deliver a bit more power which would equate to a reduction of 3-6 minutes on a statistically average charging session. We think the technical headroom and associated safety is a prudent tradeoff for Hyundai Group. Most EV drivers rarely DC-Fast Charge and will not be impacted in any meaningful way by conservative engineering.
      As we've previously reported, Hyundai Group is currently offering native 800V NACS ports on some US made vehicles. The entire product line will follow suit in the coming year or so. We can safely assume those vehicles will accept the maximum ouput of V2/V3 Tesla Superchargers and much higher speeds at upcoming V4 cabinet-equipped locations.
      Hyundai Group is the #2 EV automaker in the USA and we see their complimentary support for NACS as an example of the sound strategy and outstanding execution which has earned them a leadership position.
      Thank you for joining us and starting this conversation.

    If a company is offering incentives, it means that they want to move those vehicles. The cybertruck is not selling as well as hoped. The Fiat 500E isn't a good car for the market and also isn't selling. The rest of the news I see as mostly positive. If car makers can standardize on parts, they can get the production cost way down while making the cars more attractive to buyers in the market. People always worry a bit about getting the car repaired when the time comes. Standardized parts and the ability of independent mechanics to fix the cars is an important selling point.

      Remember, the promotion is only for remaining Foundation Series trucks in inventory on lots. Each of those is fully optioned including $8,000 full self driving, lifetime data connectivity. They were reserved as early as 2019. Many reservation holders balked due to major price hikes and very high interest rates. The result is a surplus of that limited edition run.
      Those start at $100k and are fully optioned. Now that less expensive Cybertruck trims are available for as low as $72k with corporate subsidies, the value proposition is superior there.
      As with any product, there is a premium associated with scarcity. During the first year, Cybertruck output was inconsistent as the ramp-up process took place. Now Tesla has produced over 55,000 trucks and is purportedly building about 1,300/week.
      The truck is now selling at a profit and will contribute meaningfully to Tesla's automotive bottom line in 2025. We expect export beyond North America soon.
      To your other point, scale is indeed a primary enabler of value for consumers. Simplification is another.

      It happens too frequently. We'd like to see the system be allowed to work. Failure is an essential component of success. If we do not let winners rise and losers fall, our system is bogged down by the weight of unproductive corporate corpses. -Producer Tim

      Less business and development transpire around the holidays.
      We will have the opposite problem in early January.

    I enjoy the content, but find your gazing above my head very distracting. That's an eye position that is subconsciously associated with someone lying. If you would position your "prompter" at the level of the camera it would look more natural.

      The teleprompter text is reflected on a panel of glass directly in front of the lens.
      It is not a separate screen above the camera.

      Tesla produces electric automobiles. That is our field of expertise. The company has no control over the voting decisions of its 140,000 employees and 7 million customers. Leave political trolling out of our comments section.
