I think we all clown ourselves by approaching Taemin comebacks with expectations. Of course we know it'll be good because he maintains a certain standard, but Taemin ALWAYS supersedes anything we could ever expect. He does it Every. Single. Time.
The more I watch this MV, the more convinced I am that there are dual meanings and of the connection with NGDA, specifically "Criminal" and "IDEA". Taemin did say "Advice" is like the epilogue to those songs and his new beginning. Our first indication of this duality is the fashion of the backup dancers (half black; half white) and the first suit he wears (black in the front; white in the back - a mixture of both). As with most of Taemin's MVs we have the surface meaning of him seemingly addressing his haters/saesangs and telling them he'll do things his way (including getting tattoos if he wants, "I destroy the torso you were chasing after", and taking his own advice", and so on. However, there are several connections with NGDA: 1) He wore a very similar head mask that only exposes his eyes for part of his photoshoot for NGDA (where he was on the car) 2) For his "IDEA" photoshoot, Taemin wore a black veil, "Even the veil that hides the smile inside the glass mask is lost." So now, the veil is gone and so is the "glass mask" that hid his inner smile. Taemin has recently been much more open, expressive, and happy than in the past. He used to hide his emotions and be shy during interviews and such, letting his SHINee hyungs speak instead. Even he said he's actually smiling too much lately...lol. In addition, now we can't stop him from talking (a good thing) and at the speed of light to boot, mixing Korean, English, & Japanese. 3) With NGDA, he also sported tattoos on his hands and face. This time, Taemin actually fully exposes his torso (usually he wears a jacket with just the middle of his torso showing). The tattoos are explosive, blanketing his torso and arms which include scuff marks and thorns, as if he's been through a battle. His fingers are blackened like he escaped a fire (the inferno and lava seen in "Criminal" & "IDEA".) 4) In "IDEA", Taemin wears a crop-top but his waist/hip tattoo is covered up. Here, he's wearing a crop-top again, but we finally get to see his waist/hip tattoo. It's exposed. I think he intentionally covered his tattoo before to reveal it here to make a statement. I'm free, and I'll show you I can do anything I want -- including getting a tattoo. (Wish I could see what it is though.) 5) In "Criminal", Taemin was both the protagonist and the victim. He was "leashed" by his dominant ego (the one he's had for 14 years). He was totally under the dominant ego's control, trapped within his own mind. "IDEA" gave us Taemin's climactic battle and victory. The new ego is finally free and eager to explore, break out of his introverted ways, and create the music he loves rather than what is expected by the industry. You can see allusions to this via the very large Taemin in a very small room basically saying I'm too big to confine. "The more you try to trap me, the more I'll go off the rails." Now he's exposing his large waist/hip tattoo proudly and showing it to the world regardless of how anyone feels; a blow to how an introvert usually behaves. 6) When Taemin is suspended in mid-air, broken at the waist, you may have noticed his hair appears to be shorter and the same silver color as in "Criminal". The "criminal" ego has been broken and dismissed. Until now, there was only One advice - that of the "criminal" ego. However, now there is only "my advice" that of the new, freed ego: "I'll take my own advice," and a threat, "If you want to see the end, push my buttons." and "I'll shoot the One advice." 7) It also appears as if the "criminal" ego is not happy about his loss and this transition of power. He is trying to reassert himself, as demonstrated by the lyrics of the bridge, "It's creepy, the drama you wanted." "Why are you crossing the line again?". However new ego is having none of it. He won't be trapped again. He's locked that old ego away, "you never get the keys to my lock", and It's best to take his own advice and destroy what's left by shattering the "criminal" ego (windshield and visions of collisions, crashed cars. In short, destruction). 8) Taemin's signature "T" pose at the end (for "IDEA" it was at the beginning) - resurrection; the end of an old era, and the beginning of the new. In any case, this is just what I think. I do know that I'm really going to miss him during this hiatus.
I think the word you're looking for is" restlessness" that anxious tension when you just can't be still or when your'e on the edge of becoming unhinged.

it's funky and so unexpected but it's taemin so it's still brilliant. it somehow doesn't make sense at all and yet is cohesive within taemin's solo stuff. i think it's a memorable and stunning piece to leave us with before he goes for enlistment. i'll still be talking about this in a year and a half im sure ahah also didn't expect to have gender envy from taemin in a sports bra/crop top thing and jogger co-ord set but here we are lmao

I love the piano throughout the song so much. I also agree with you that Criminal is still at the top for me, but this is still phenomenal.

They can do it like Beast (now Highlight, changed the name cause of their old label) 3. Going seperate ways and doing Solo projects I reaaaally hope they're going for Option 1 or 2 🥺
