Andy- a few years ago I ran into a similar issue with excess sand in the pit, I found a 32”x90’ stacker conveyor for $10k, converted it to a hydraulic drive and mounted paddles on the belt to help carry sloppy sand. Set it up in the pit we run it with a large pto driven hydraulic pump and load it with a loader. Makes hauling out fast and a lot cleaner. Trucks stay out of the pit and a hell of a lot cleaner and the loader makes shorter trips to the hopper. Since putting it together we’ve used it a couple times and now I’m renting it to neighboring farms. Probably have about $18k into it as it sets.
Wow! That is the first time I have seen an operation like that. Really amazes me the work you do. The planning and resourcing you have to do is mind boggling. You, Good Sir, are a wizard.
I am guessing but it has taken just about a lifetime to build the herd,, the barns, infrastructure and equipment plus land. A great family and good hired help.
What I've heard is sand bedding is the best for cows but the worst for everything else. 2" rubber on all your alleys and sand bedding, I'd say your cows got it pretty good.
I just bought the easiflex 70 mm mattresses to get away from the bloody sand it is good for cows but a living nightmare when it comes to the slurry and quite frankly I am sick and tired of dealing with the stuff. I have enough to do without having to spend hours a day messing around with sand and the consequences of it. We're not big enough to have a guy do what Andy does in this operation.
Yeah it would be nice to clean DC up but I wouldn't want that crap spread on my fields. It would be like nuclear waste you would have to bury it miles deep so it wouldn't effect good hard working people.
Very impressive! Manure handling has come a long way from a barn cleaner, a manure spreader, and a tractor with a front end loader! Thanks for sharing!
I was one who asked where does the sand come from. Before your reply I thought "Man what a crappy place to put a beach!" Thanks for clearing that up for me!
Several years ago I visited Cinnamon something farm in Iowa; they had set a record of corn yield at 306 bushels; no chemical fertilizer; all their yield came from a hog feeding operation where they broke even on feeding out hogs; purchased all the hog feed; but what they gained on the process was the rich hog manure they used to grow all their crops, hence the 306 bushel corn per acre; worth looking at their operation. They also use robotic milking machines on their Jersey cow herd. Worth a visit if you ever get the chance.
Yup, heavy dense loads. Hence my comment on the last video. Some people don't fully understand, it's the weight and you can easily break the back of a truck. Seen it happen before, not a pretty sight. The good thing about this is, you're keeping the truck beds nice and shiny. Great video as always, cheers :)
Our custom manure haulers never agitate enough and after several years we had a quite a bit of solids on the bottom of the pit. We rented one of those floating agitators and they work great.
Andy take a identical bucket or similar one that matches up with the one on your wheel loader- cute it in half and weld each half on existing bucket, you will be about 16 foot wide with the bucket . Works could for what you're doing and snow removal, loading manure etc . Works great did it on924k handles it fine . Your loader is much bigger, will handle it just fine!
A huge undertaking cleaning that lagoon. It's surprising just how big it is. It all makes sense why you need that agitation constantly. Just in case I forget, Merry Christmas to you and your family and employees. Keep the faith Andy and smile as much as possible, and then some.
Great stuff Andy. I knew it would be interesting. It does look like small loads but that stuff is a lot heavier than chopped corn or hay. Keep em coming.
Very good explanation of the lagoon operation. I am enjoying watching the support operations of a large Dairy Farm. Would like to see how you handle the actual milking parlor when you get a chance.
👍done. Yep be all too easy to overload your trucks with the tipping body size your running there Andy 🙉 thanks for explaining the process it's all clear now 👌 I like the sound of the payloader engine it sounds sweet. Catch the next 👏
The big dairy farm near where i live runs those trelleborg tire setup on old army trucks man you can tell when they are coming down the road he must have about 15 trucks he’s the biggest farm I think in PA it’s Wayne Harpster he milks probably over 2000 head
I have watched all your videos and always enjoy a fly over of the farm. Never get tired of it and always learn something about your setup. Now if you could just breed those cows to milk as much as they crap everyday. LOL
That sandy manure is heavier than people think. The farm I work at cleans the pit like this more often than using slurry tanks. Only has one tank vs 2 box type spreaders that can move the manure faster that way. I know that pit it pretty good size but I know yours has to be bigger. And you have more than one pit🤣
hi Andy from upstate ny lk george area glad you guys didn't get hit like we did this week 3' of snow would have put a real damper on your lagoon cleaning keep up the work and great videos Merry Christmas to you and your family have a great vacation you deserve it
🏅Andy that was such a good video I liked it when you flew the drone over the farm 👍 I like it the way you explained everything 👍 you have a great farm 👍 that is a real shity job. But I know someone has to do it. When I saw your trucks 🚛 dumping the loads look small when you said 25 tons I was amazed 👍🇺🇸 P. S. I like to say🎄 Merry Christmas and have a Happy New year's 🍻🍷🎉🎊 thank you for what you brought to me I really enjoy these videos 👍🌲🎁😉
I find your videos very interesting. I was raised in NY 100 miles east of Syracuse. My dad was raised on a dairy farm but a much smaller one compared to yours.
Your starting to look like some of those Canadian you tubers with the cracked windshield, a bunch of them have cracked windshields! lol. Good video interesting info about the lagoon connections. Thanks Andy.
@@ericrudgers6816 I totally agree with ya. It’s like picking corn when it’s been under water, you can feel your combine being eat from the inside out lol.
So the drag line was really fas at the time but made for much more sand hauling later ! !!! More agitation at the time when you drag line a possibility ??
Always great videos Andy , that’s a lot of sand crap. build yourself a kiln and sanitize it and reuse it and make a million bucks. LOL. Thanks stay safe
Manure management is a big part of dairying that a lot of people just don't have a clue. Thanks for the video. BTW, do you have an "off" season when you can shut down the equipment and just let the pit fill for a few days? Give you some time for maintenance of equipment? PS...I am sure glad your videos do not transmit smell with them!
Your videos are the best REAL FARMING
Cows love the sand - bearings and equipment not so much! Great work!
Oh a Good Saturday night video, my favorite videos
That's a nice looking dairy..
I'm a retired nurse at age 68 and I thought I delt with a lot of excrement BUT you win the prize Andy. Enjoy your videos and your personality 👍🐄
If humans discharged a gallon of excrement each time they went you could not build a diaper big enough.

The joys of the manure pit clean out. Did it for years an loved it. One of my favorite jobs was spreading liquid

Best investment is switching to sand

Sand kills equipment. Basically a routine sand blasting
Strong work Andy 👍 Thanks for the tour. It's always helpful to see the overhead of where you work. Take care buddy.
As a pasted Oklahoma farm boy, I had to chuckle at the huge cow pies. Thanks for your commitment to an excellent blog.
I had to laugh as the load of sand was dumped, reminded me of my days back in the barn when a cow was dropping a fresh pattie.
Your drone work was great too. I am really digging your videos.
Love them big singles....you got a silage hauler there! They sand will work in nice if you've got heavy clay soils!
Your operation is awesome, mind boggling so many thing you do .outstanding videos
Big boys with big toys playing in a big sand box😁😁 keep the good videos coming.
I was expecting to get a manure shower from that 8" pipe! Thanks for sparing us. Best wishes for a Merry Christmas to you and the family
Hi Andy. Now if we could just " Clean out the cesspool, in DC " We would be better off. Has always I Liked, shared. God bless and all my very best.

Hello
Awesome video glad u were able to get the pit cleaned out was definitely no small job im sure that got some stress off ur shoulders
I ran the crane swinging a concrete bucket on it when we built a above ground circle 1 million gallon manure tank for a local dairy farm
So interesting how you explain it and show with video.

Thanks for the video Andy, they say it's great bedding but I'm glad we don't have to deal with sand in our setup lol.
