THIS is how you are supposed to voice out your opinion about missing BTS' earlier sounds. As you said, Jeff, it's all about preference and I agree with you. I'm just sad to know that some of the "fans" are unstanning just because they are doing English songs without getting the meaning and the purpose of why BTS is doing this rn. Thank you for your honest review Jeff! Looking forward to the dance practice reaction!! Always love your honest review!

Honestly I am happy that these fans are unstanning because of the english releases. If you quit a group who has sing 3 songs in english while they have more than 200 songs in Korean and 4 albums japanese sorry but you wasn't a fan at all if that's the case. Those people who quit were probably not the best fans to begin with.

I love your explanation after the reaction. I think we can all agree that many, and I mean many of us became an army from their older stuff. I became an army during Blood Sweat and Tears and the wings era. I too LOVEEEEE their hard hitting songs and I super excited when they released On after BWL which I will admit to not being my favorite song. But, as they have said, they want to try out different genre of music and they have always been doing that. It’s just they have their foot now in the western market and they are giving the western market exactly what the western market loves and that’s fun, upbeat pop. If anyone stops and thinks about the message that BTS sends, the emotions they want us to feel….we should all realize that they release music based on their life. Dynamite was released to try and cheer us up, BE coming out at the almost beginning of covid and it was a sad, very relatable album reflecting their feelings during the pandemic. Then Butter and now PTD being fun upbeat songs. Do we really think they are going to release and album right now…dark and heavy hitting and referencing literature during one of the worst times of our lives? I don’t think so. Just look at Mots7, they have yet to perform ANY of those songs live in front of real people. I think they are penning something great in the studio, there hasn’t been a BTS album that hasn’t had a purpose, that hasn’t followed a storyline so I just think we need to be patient and wait for them to release that and i feel it in my core that it’s going to be something great. They are global, and releasing songs globally to reach everyone.

I love how not only did the song and MV revolved around the pandemic and the effects that it caused with humanity taking self protective care inclusion of the symbolism for the face masks, but also the diversity along with the variety of ages, backgrounds, races etc. Plus, the appreciation for the Frontline workers who've been working their butts off! for the essential needs & care that we as a whole need. I personally agree and appreciate your true opinion & thoughts upon BTS's sound! They're trying out new concepts, genres + themes, however I just hope that the group doesn't feel pressured to release a certain form of art in order to satisfy a particular audience.

Just stuck in that place. And I know bangtan likes challenge, theyre a real musician. Want to grow n grow more.
I respect that, and inspired by that. Always hungry for new challenge in life, exploring, and learn alot from it 😀
If wht you said happend (western never accepting fully), thats alright. They gonna still moving, and grow from it. With their own way.

The only time I get really bothered when people talk about their preference for the older music is when...
    1. They act like they're somehow being forced to never listen to it again. It still exists on every platform... listen to it all you want. Like legitimately, ALL. YOU. WANT.
    2. They romanticize the pain that lead to many of their favorite songs (like, say... Outro: Tear). Is it great that they had music as an outlet? Yes. Obviously... but to continue the example of Tear era, they were emotionally battered. The "angst" and "emo vibes" aren't fictional, they come from real human beings' lived trauma. There are few things I find less glamorous than that. Also... wanting to spread a message of joy and hope and inclusivity is a valid artist choice.
    3. They act like there is something inherently wrong with the music because an artist has grown and evolved, just not in the way they want them to. I don't see the difference between them trying to force artists to stay in their box, based on their opinions and preferences, and anyone else doing it. Being a fan doesn't mean they get to oppress them by trapping them in a gilded cage
    4. They link language with artistry/identity. We've spent 8 years trying to convince the GP that the fact that their lyrics are in Korean doesn't make them less artistic/impactful than their western, English-speaking counterparts... only to now be having the same argument with (non-Korean speaking) fans, just in reverse. Both are inherently problematic in nearly all of the same ways, but they don't wanna hear it and I have gone on long enough.

true.. and thank you for your comment.
certain songs at their own proper time. I'm sure BTS have a lot of songs that are as hardhitting as their classics..they may already have the next album after Map of the Soul 7 prepared.. but as they said.. All the plans 'were broken' by covid..
But during these difficult times.. they may want more relevant songs..
if they put out songs of the styles we're used to, but may not be appropriate for the current times.. the boys may even be considered as insensitive.
remember they were even able to come up with the BE album.. which while unplanned, is connected to or brought about by this pandemc.
These recent songs do not mean that they will be 'this way' moving forward... let's not box our boys in. Yoongi said they've been dealing with the pressure by adapting.. and trying their best in the current situation..
why is something as precious as PTD, this 'gift' which they've prepared for their fans ... being taken with such a light, just because it's another english song or a totally new style? im so sad..
Can we not all just be simply grateful... and celebrate this 8th year with sincerity and unity?
despite this corona afecting all our lives, the boys are still putting out projects and songs just to keep their connection with us
they have a lot of haters already. I know these guys are just being honest... But hearing these sentiments, however justifiable they are, only fuel the haters/antis to hate on BTS more... fans will defend their own differing opinions.. to the point of arguing back and forth in different platforms..
what image is this bringing to the world? here the boys are trying their hardest and most fans are also doing their best to spread the positivity and how BTS can inspire people.
but if those within the fandom themselves are not as open-minded as BTS... then we ourselves are defeating the purpose.
this is just my own opinion too. i just want say, that this song made me feel so warm and comforted. can we not all just be happy with this? Because this is what the boys want when they worked on this song.
Why do some people, even fans, need to bring any negativity? yes even this little bit of saying that their old style is being missed brings an iota of negativity - which in end only can bite us all back
These are special times, difficult times.. can we not be too 'inward looking' ...and remember that we are all part of this one big world for just this time?!!!
im sorry, i just have to say all that because im so frustrtaed with all the negativity that other 'fans' are giving off with their 'views'! This is not what BTS stands for
love, peace, good health to all

People come into liking BTS for various things. Some like their hard songs, some mellow, some earlier hip-hop, some EDM, some the summer song vibes. I just wanted to say it's okay to not like a different phase of BTS, you can simply listen to their other songs. What I have a problem with is people saying this is not BTS, they have changed, their songs don't hit me like before. Now, this I disagree with. One thing that will remain the same through all BTS songs would be the purpose of their songs. They're constantly evolving, they incorporate different things, they experiment. But not once they have strayed from the purpose of sharing with their fans. From the beginning to the end they are constant in this. They put out music about what they are going through at a certain time and they may use different music styles for it. Whatever they are comfortable with. But the message is to communicate with their fans. BTS might give up doing hard choreography altogether if they think one member might not be able to keep up. They always think about what they can do as a group rather than what they can do to outshine individually. For which they stick to their mixtapes. Even if BTS decided to sit down and sing about their daily life in casual clothes, I will be there supporting them. They have given me enough for a lifetime. I hope there are other ARMYs who feel the same as me.

I feel like they have matured and grown as the most influential artist, who are giving out HOPE to everyone (honoring disAbility people by using intl sign language in their dance moves).
Maybe before they were more about showing off their talents but now they find more joy in making people happy. I was so touched when I saw the movie. This is the message what world needs to hear now. Peace, JOY, & Positivity !!! As an old ARMY I am SO proud of them. They are more than just a super talented K-POP group. It is just sad how some believe that they losing their direction... for just those 3 recent english songs out of their 230+ songs... those 3 has been explained that they're light songs & not with heavy lyricism as their previous song... its cheerful & happy songs to stay with us while we are still in this pandemic situation... If people dont like it? It is fine with me at least be respectful & kind... remember that they poured out their hearts on it, as we all know their work ethics... their love & passion for music...

I think we may see less choreo moving forward because they're getting older, most of them closer to their 30's and it becomes harder to dance hard choreography. They've been honest enough to admit the struggle countless times in the past. And I also think they will continue to evolve and we will continue to see changes. I am sure there will be fans who will leave because the flavor has changed and there'll be new fans coming in as well who like the new flavor. That's just the natural flow of life.
And Yes, JKs dancing has evolved so much so that when he performs, its hard not to notice him even when he's in the back. His appeal is just off the roof these days since he turned 23. He is a natural and gives off that pop star vibe effortlessly. I can watch him perform all day.

I think everything you've said is true, except I disagree w the first part. I dont think the revert to less difficult choreography has anything to do with their age, 30 is still young (and they're not even there yet lol) and these are people that have been training and conditioning their bodies for 7 years+, so they can very very much still do hard choreo if they wanted. Personally I think its a matter of them being much more versatile and talented as artists now, especially vocally, to the point where they no longer need hard hitting choreo to help them sell songs. Also they are doing less Korean stages (inkigayo and all that) where the choreo comes into play for wins which they now no longer need. Finally, these last few songs are light and fun like Jeff said and therefore require less intense choreo the way super intense songs like On or Dionysus would need. I just wanted to put that out there :)

To me, they released it at the perfect time, and in the perfect atmosphere for when it can be received by the wider population, not just ARMY. The amazing performance and dance that first drew me to BTS is lower, true, but their message of hope has stayed the absolute same. Honestly, I think they are just taking it easy on performance as a whole because SUGA has just finished recovering for one, and I remember the toll it took on them to film such energy-draining performances.
As time goes on, we honestly can't expect BTS to keep in top physical condition forever and be able to deliver the crazy performances they used to when they were younger - I remember them suffering chronically because of such dances and I'm for them choosing not to continue if they wished.
That said, I think BTS will always surprise us with their effort to want to please us, and keep coming out with amazing performances to the best of their ability'! While they get more comfortable with the English language enough to deliver the same deep lyrics they always do, and rap fire - they will undoubtedly keep releasing Korean and Japanese songs and ALWAYS keep true to themselves!

I think something to remember about what is happening with bts right now is the pandemic. Here in the US things are slowly getting back to business as usual… everything is opening up but a lot of places are not bc they’re at a completely different stage. Bts had to put off the mots7 tour got cancelled and they have said that they want to start with that tour as soon as they can… and so they’re going to still finish off that which had barely started. So the songs they’re making currently are purely light , up lifting songs that don’t have crazy choreo or substance bc if they released the more typical sounds that they typically have done… they would be putting out music that they couldn’t do much with and especially with having to finish the original tour first…. They would be releasing songs that they probably wouldn’t be doing tours for for like a year and a half… probably 2 years. So basically like butter and ptd are filler songs to give army something…some content that’s easygoing and light bc that’s exactly the intention of them for this time period while it’s still up in the air how long it would take to even begin to tour again. Like the songs that they heavily promote with more meaning , deeper lyrics, rap and more in depth choreo… it’s just a bad spot bc they’re in limbo. Once i heard about the whole tour thing and what they’re waiting to do and the reasons … it makes sense to release songs like this . I honestly think that the songs are in English is bc they know that this would not be the standard for kpop in Korea… they’re are certain elements and expectations with the genre that bts has been breaking those boundaries for a long time and it’s why they’re is such a wide variety of army bc of their versatility. They can’t put out a new album before this other tour…. Or not til it starts back up but realistically it’s really tough to know how it’s going to work..: if that makes sense. Basically they’re waiting to figure out mots7 to take the next step with their new album bc they’ve talked about one… but it’s not this one. These are just cute fun little bits of joy and swag so we have something. This was definitely not what I was expecting after butter so it threw me off and I want sure how I felt about it… but after seeing them do it live and hearing how amazing the live vocals were for all of them… especially the vocal line.. they sounded crisp and clear and each had vocal runs which typically only jungkook does them bc but of the stability of him… and his ad libs and vocals live and how powerfully he is dancing is amazing. Once I went back and watched the video again and caught all the special little nuggets of things left for army to relate to the journey… it tugged at the heart strings for sure. I actually really like the song now and it’s impossible for me to not smile when I hear it !!! I’m definitely a fan of the music the way they’ve always made it. I really do think the whole English song thing is bc of the difference in releasing a song here in the US as opposed to Korea… different standards. But I see the hard work the boys put in and give everything they can every time and doing sign language in the dance and promoting that July is disability month… there’s so much symbolism in the music video but a different way unless you’re an army. Not everybody is going to see it that way though and that’s fine… I just think people really are forgetting the big picture about what bts does and how they do it… thinking about the timeline and what has to be done before they can release another album… it’s not them just solely focusing on the US bc it’s all that matters to them… it’s a business strategy during a time where there’s been nothing but uncertainty. They’ve been killing them selves for a decade to give us some of the most incredible content and performances… obviously they’re not just switching that out only focusing on the us to be on top… just an effect of the pandemic. They’ve been doing this for 8 years… they’re still bts and just think ppl writing them off bc they don’t love one song is really disgusting and sad… so everything else you’ve loved them for means nothing bc of 2-3 songs? Those ppl never were army… you don’t turn on ppl like that. Look at the big picture

I'm a fairly new baby army, butter era in fact, but i have listened to some of their old albums and i do agree that the old songs are better than what they are releasing so far (dynamite, butter, PTD). Concept wise, melody, choreo, and all are definitely better but I guess, their songs right now are just a strategic way for them to enter the global music scene, the American music scene to be specific, and knowing that they are aiming for a Grammy after losing the first one adds into it as well.
Come to think of it, they have already established themselves in the kpop world after 7 years. They really don't have anything to prove anymore in that area besides being a kpop group who can also make it globally. However, it's kinda sad that they had to adjust into a prejudiced awards show (by releasing full english songs) just to "fit in" but trying to break/stop an unjust system like the Grammy's would take years and they definitely don't have time for that. Them (Hybe labels) also acquiring or buying Ithaca holdings (Scooter Braun's company where Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande is also in) is also a strategic way into hollywood so you see there's really a global aim.
I think it's really not that bad plus it's a good way for them to expand and be inclusive of their international fans as well since many have supported them even in their korean songs for almost a decade. It's definitely a win-win situation for both them and the international fans. Plus as you said, they are artists. Artists explore and there is no limit to what they can create. Music has no boundaries. I just really don't get the other old Armys (not u okay haha) who are complaining about 3 full english songs as if it's end of BTS. It's not. Let's support our Bangtan boys in every milestone.

Hello baby army ☺️ love what you’re saying but in the part where your saying that it’s ‘strategic to get in the American music scene’, I have to disagree with you there because BTS have always stated that they make the music regarding the point of their lives their in and in PTD they showed the release and pressure that they get from the industry in itself showing that they truly don’t need Permission to do anything! Singing in English for them doesn’t highlight them wanting to make it in the industry that they are already big in it’s just simply what they have a feel to do at the moment! Just like they’re Japanese songs and albums it’s the exact same with English! I’m not being mean by all means just kindly explaining why I don’t think they’re doing it to fit in to the American media because if that were the case they would’ve done it sooner instead of struggled for years with “Western validation”…have a good day army and I truly hope you keep supporting our boys!! 💜☺️

@@abrosa_04 i'm dont claim to know them by heart bec im a baby army but I'm also not saying that they want "Western validation" bec as u said PTD shows that they can make it without pressure and all. It could be a way to just expand for all we know. We won't truly know their reason for releasing 3 consecutive Eng songs unless they say it themselves. I guess im just pertaining to strategy for music releases as a way to expand more like they did with dynamite, and they're just adding fuel to it. So many new army emerged bec of dynamite, they probably knew it too, and that's okay. I don't really think that's a bad thing 🥰 The old songs are always there and they don't lose the ability to write songs of the same vibe and concept as before.
To end this, i remember min yoongi saying when asked what's diff with kpop from Western music, he said "It's just music. It's the same. Same thing." Anyway, thank u so much for your kind reply i hope every discussion is like this. 💜 Borahae

Totally agree. Everyone will have a favourite track or album, but it doesn't make you less of a fan to prefer one sound over another. I think one of my favourite things about them is that they refuse to conform to a style or genre. No matter your taste there is a BTS track for you.
I've seen a few fans being sulky about the English tracks, and others sulking because they absolutely love the English tracks and don't like them being criticised. It's good to remind everyone that you don't have to like everything equally, or at all. So long as you remain respectful it's all good. 💜
For me this has High School Musical vibes (in the best way), and it makes me happy. I think it's tied with Butter as my favourite of their English tracks, with Dynamite very close behind. It's great that they do exactly what they want, just like they have from the beginning. Learning instruments, learning english, having fun etc etc. I love it and they are not stopping doing choreo and Korean songs and they will continue rapping too.
Something I looooove about BTS is they do what they want they do not have to, they want to do it.
And it's great to see people who love the rapline loves to hear them sing, I haven't seen anyone yet complaining about it but I've herd about it alot that there are people complaining about the songs being in english etc. and I think they have chosen the wrong group to be a fan of if they think BTS are just gonna do what they have seen of them before. They are 7 artists with amazing creativity and they love to try new things.
People don't have to like every song, most of us probably have some songs, new and old that isn't really to our taste but people complaining and saying bad stuff can just leave, BTS deserves better. It's so simple, if they do not like one or a few songs there are still over 200 songs to listen to.

I don't think it was our audio - Jn had a live mic in his hands and it was catching the wind.
Thanks for your honest opinion and the way you stated it respectfully. I'm a huge IDOL, Dionysis, FIRE, DOPE, Baepsae, CYPHER fan and Yoongi stan. I absolutely LOVE this song. I also miss the rapping and intensity - but this song feels SO RIGHT for this moment! I'm glad they know how to read the room, and reach out to new fans with different styles.

When the PTD teaser dropped.. I didn't like the music I liked the vibe. But when the MV dropped.. The best way to describe is I felt warm. I was smiling all the time. The song made me feel everything is gonna be okay. I'm gonna be okay even if I fall sometimes. That's all PTD is to me.
However I have no problem with other people not liking it. We all are entitled to our own music taste and opinion. It's okay if we don't like some songs of our favorite artist. At the end of the day we all have our comfort songs. For some, PTD isn't that song. For me, it is a feel good song.
All listeners are entitled to like or dislike certain songs. But what isn't right is either hating the boys or hating others whose opinion doesn't match with us. So the bottom line is.. Yes, I personally loved PTD and I'll come back to it when I'll need a little pick me up from bad mood.

More than Dynamite and Butter which were happy songs, Permission to Dance offers hope and inspiration to beyond the global nightmare that is COVID 19 which is why the surprise emotional connection to this song especially how it ends with communities throwing off the shackles of the dreaded mask . Places like Thailand, India, Philippines which are especially suffering can see hope from this song .
EVERYONE, you have probably realized this by now that this is MORE THAN A SONG. It is hope . It is joy. It is healing . It is light at the end of a dark cave . BTS has done it again emotionally connecting us with their message .
THIS IS PURE BTS no one can convince me any different. FIGHT ME

I respect your opinion. I feel they decided to go "light" because of the heaviness we have all experienced with Covid. This is the right time to do these songs. To lift our spirits. This is an Anthem for the world! Their desire to be inclusive is heartwarming and joyful. No one was left out. An honestly and sadly this is the only way they can win a Grammy. If I was on the Grammy committee I would nominate this song or Butter for song of the year!!!!.Also, they are older and even Jimin said in an interview...we won't always be able to dance at this level, but we can always sing. They are in a new era. They can't wait to perform Live. RM said the first song they will perform will be "On" because they never got to perform it live for Army. Again, I respect everyone's opinion about this song. But BTS is always going to do it their way because it has always worked the best for them. They have been critiqued their whole career. They are used to it. They know they will "go out" on top. But on top their way. Thanks for your honest reaction. I hope Army respects you and everyone with this opinion. Speaking your Truth is what BTS "preaches". They respect and honor your Truth!!! God Bless!!

Yessssss I agree with all you said! I didn't know them before 2020, but i "miss" the old songs too, but I totally understand their choices, mostly in this pandemic, is a song that brings a lot of light and hope

I really love the way you expressed your opinion. I feel like you get “attacked” a lot when you say something like that. And I do not understand why since it’s all just a music taste that is different from person to person. I honestly love everything they’ve done yet and they never disappointed me. But I am also a big fan of darker concepts like Fake Love or aggressive concepts like Mic Drop etc. At the same time, I also love that they are trying new things and I know that they are releasing happy songs especially because of the pandemic.
Besides the fact if I agree or disagree with you, I definitely think that you have the right to think like that and as I said, it is just an opinion and everyone might think differently. But unfortunately a lot of people hate on others when they say they missed these concepts as if they are saying that the new music is bad or said something bad about the boys or something… 💜

@TheGenreIsBTS 0613 yes, i know exactly what you mean and I’ve seen a lot of these, which is really sad because 1. it’s their right to make the Music they enjoy themselves 2. they love ARMY so much so they are doing so much for them through this music 3. the People can still go and listen to the old stuff if they don’t like the new one. So I definitely agree when it comes to such people. But when it’s just an opinion while you still love and support the boys, I don’t think it’s a Problem to say what kind of music you prefer… 😊
